Just got back from the jewel Dunn's river beach resort with my friend (both of us are 27 year old girls from New Jersey)
Our room was in the sapphire building and faced the mountains. The views from the balcony were very pretty despite not facing the ocean. The room was clean and was always stocked with water and other drinks.
Unlike other all inclusive resorts I've been to, I had no trouble finding lounge chairs at the beach and pools each day. The ocean was beautiful. Security patrolled the beach to ensure that non guests did not bother anyone. I really liked that. On other vacations, I was frequently bothered by locals selling various things so it was nice not having to deal with that.
The resort itself was not too crowded which I loved. Everything (restaurants, pools, beach) was in close proximity and because it's a smaller resort, we never had to wait for anything. We also ended up seeing the same people each day so we formed numerous friendships while there.
The main pool was really nice. Loved hanging out by the pool bar and enjoyed watching the various games that went on throughout the day. There was also a quiet pool, but I preferred being near the action.
The staff was always very friendly. The staff frequently walked around the pool and beach asking if we needed drinks and also came around frequently to clean up. My only complaint was about the spa employees. They came around on several occasions to ask if I wanted to make a spa reservation. I am fully aware the resort has a spa so I was not particularly fond of being asked to make an appointment.
The food was okay. Not as good as the food back home, but for the most part, I liked everything I ate. My favorite meal was a special at platinum (shrimp creole with mashed potatoes - delicious). Drinks were very good. Loved the Jamaican smile drink.
The ride to and from the airport was about 1.5-2 hours. I didn't mind it because it gave me a chance to see the country without having to leave the resort. Plus the driver on the way to the resort pointed out various landmarks so it was a nice little history lesson.
Wireless Internet is available for free in the lobby. I was initially upset that I wouldn't be able to connect from my room, but in the end, it was for the better. I went there to hang out by the beach and pool, not to surf the Internet!
As far as the nightlife goes, it seemed like most people hung out by the piano bar for some karaoke, etc and called it an early night. The night club (bling) was basically empty every time I went. If you are looking to party hard late into the night, this probably isn't the place for you. I preferred getting up early everyday to lay by the pool and beach so I didn't mind going to bed at 10 or 11 each night.
Overall, it was a very relaxing trip. I met a lot of great people and had a wonderful time.
