“Small resort that lives up to its reputation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2012

This was our first trip to Jamaica, and the Jewel has certainly set the bar high. We arrived late in the evening on April 2, after a long day travelling (flight plus the 1.5 hour bus ride between Sangster Int'l and the Jewel) and were greeted with a welcome cocktail and quick check in service.
We were then escorted to our room, which was a ground floor room in the west side of the Emerald Lanai section. The room was clean, furnishings tasteful, and included a well appointed bathroom complete with jacuzzi tub. From the french doors leading to the patio, we had a nice view of some of the gardens/main courtyard of the resort, and a distant view of the ocean. This was not the type of room we had requested, however we were both pleasantly surprised with its location/view/convenience to everything.
The restaurants offer some of the best food we have ever tasted, whether it was at the buffet or any of the 3 a la cartes. Our favorite was Moonstone, the Italian option, which offers guests the option to dine on the boardwalk overlooking the ocean. The dress codes were fairly casual, with sleeves and collars needed only for supper.
There were also plenty of bars to choose from throughout the day, with a couple options open until the early hours of the morning. The Tree Bar is truly a sight to be had, and the regular bar tenders there are quite entertaining.
Every day we spent on the beach, never having to get up particularly early to reserve our spot or being left without one had we slept in. Lots of loungers for everyone, both by the pools and on the beach. The pools looked clean, and weren't remotely full any given day. One side note to anyone looking for miles of beach to walk, you won't find it at this particular resort. There is a pier on one end and a fence on the other side of the resort grounds that limit the amount of walking one can do. Between these is the private beach and roped off swimming area.
Daily activities were plentiful, and included everything from yoga to dance lessons to an Easter egg hunt. Every evening had a major event of some sort, with the Dive in Movie and Beach Party standing out.
For those looking to purchase rum or coffee to bring home, my suggestion is to save it until you get to the Duty Free at the airport when leaving...unless you take the Appleton Estates or Blue Mountain excursions. Resort Gift Shop offers both, but at a significantly marked up price.

If you are looking for a small scale, adults only resort to relax/unwind and enjoy the Jamaican experience the Jewel deserves serious consideration. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there (hated leaving after the week was done), the friendly staff, and the beautiful surroundings.

Room Tip: The courtyard facing side (west building) of the Emerald Lanai section is very nice, quiet and offer...

I would like to start by saying this is my 10th all inclusive trip south , April 2 to April 9 ( 2 Mexico , 1 DR , 5 Cuba and the 2nd to Jamaica ) and I would not rate this as a 5 star property.

Check in was 5 star ( sit down check in and fast )
Rooms were spotless ( washroom was VERY small )
Public restrooms were very clean
Restaurant service and food was very good with the exception of the Italian ( both poor )
Bar service was very slow ( 3 stars)
Entertainment staff were great
Beach was very small
To sum it up all was very good with the exception of the SLOW bar service . I was also not impressed with two-tier service , because we didn't pay extra there was water and soft drinks only in our mini fridge ( beer was an additional $5.00 each )

Room Tip: I don not recommend rooms in the 5000 area , very close to the piano bar which can be loud

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2012

We spent four nights, five days at the Jewel from April 4 to April 8, 2012. We bought a Groupon, so I wasn't expecting a lot. I was pleasantly surprised. What an amazing experience. Definitely would do it again, but I would buy two Groupons and stack them. Four nights is just not long enough. To be honest, I'm always ready to take advantage of a bargain, but even if I didn't have a Groupon I would go back to the Jewel. It's worth it.

The staff is phenomenal. They really take care of you. The food was amazing. We had gone to an all-inclusive resort in St. Lucia before, and the food at the Jewel was a lot better. The breakfast buffet was fresh and delicious, and the grill and pizza offerings during the day were very tasty. Definitely try the Jerk Chicken/Pork wraps. YUM. I miss them already.

What I especially liked is that the portions are the perfect size. You eat and drink all day, so it's nice to have a beautifully-crafted dinner that is rich in taste but not extremely huge. We ate at Moonstone (Italian), Platinum, and Jade. Platinum was definitely the highlight, but Moonstone was very good as well. Jade was nothing special, but we had experienced Hibachi before. You have to make reservations to eat at the Jade; they only have four rooms that seat 12 people each, so they fill up very quickly. We also had dinner at the Pier on Friday night. It was a beautiful night with a full moon. The food was great, service was awesome. Definitely partake in that if you're there on a Friday night.

Even the drinks were a lot better than our previous all-inclusive experience. I expected them to be watered down (this sometimes happens in all-inclusive places), but they were perfect. The Jamaican Smile was my favorite, but I also had gin and tonic and rum and coke. All very tasty.

The beach is great, and I especially liked the Hobby Cat and kayaking experiences, which were all included. The beach is calm and the water is very warm. It's really picture perfect. The pictures on the website don't do it justice.

The resort is just the perfect size for you to get to know the staff. The piano bar was the highlight of every night. Bling (dance club) was usually empty, but the few people who were in there had a good time. The entertainment staff is so high energy, but what I REALLY liked is that they were not pushy if you told them you didn't want to participate in the activities at the pool. During our previous all-inclusive experience, we felt that they pushed you so hard to join that you didn't have a chance to say no. Sometimes you just want to chill... this is your vacation after all. But Sasha (oh Sasha... what a high-energy sweetheart) and her team were courteous and fun. They asked you if you wanted to participate, but if you said no, they smiled and moved on to the next guest. Nothing pushy, nothing annoying. Great work, guys.

I can't wait to go back. It's paradise. Worth every penny.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Diamon Concierge Room. It was an ocean front room. Very nice. Clean, cozy... the ba...

My husband and I just got back from a 6-night stay at the Jewel, and we had an awesome time! This was our second trip to Jamaica. For our previous visit to Jamaica, we stayed at a popular couples resort in Negril, which was basically our benchmark for comparison since we had such an amazing time there. The Jewel met all of our expectations for cleanliness, comfort, and food quality. The only downside to this resort (when compared to Negril) was the beach. The swimming area was somewhat limited and the sandy area was small as well. Nevertheless, we did not have any trouble finding beach chairs (we usually arrived on the beach by mid-morning), and never felt cramped in the water. It was a little more difficult finding chairs by the main pool, and we ended up spending a lot of our pool time by the pool by Jasper's. If you are a seashell collector, you may also be slightly disappointed. We found very few shells and did not see the extent of sealife which we saw in Negril, but we did find some pretty pebbles and a few hard-earned shells.
We had an amazing view of the ocean and grounds from our 6th floor Sapphire room (hint...worth the splurge on the oceanfront!). The room was clean and elegantly decorated. As far as the food... the buffet was nothing impressive, but if you don't mind changing out of your bathing suit, it's well worth it to pay a visit to Platinum, Moonstone, and Jade. We highly recommend Platinum for breakfast as it is a nice change from the redundancies of the buffet. The pizza at Court Jester's was quite good (we recommend ordering your pizza and then going to grab drinks or take a little stroll because it takes a while since it is made to order). The dessert pizza was delicious! Overall, it didn't seem like there were a ton of food options (both in restaurant choices and menu choices) but we definitely did not starve and never had trouble finding something good. If you are willing to splurge a little, DEFINITELY do the private dinner (we did ours in the pavilion over the waterfall). The food was amazing and the atmosphere was very romantic! Our server was Sheldon, and he was so attentive that he even left his personal blackberry at the table for us with his Reggae love songs playlist playing for us.
Now for the staff......what an amazingly energetic fun group of employees!! If you are not one to get up and interact, these guys and gals will break you out of your shell with all kinds of fun activities! Floyd was one of our personal favorites....from his afternoon pool games at Jasper's, to his nightly dance moves, this guy seems to be good at everything and most of all, good at showing you a good time!! Among the other employees who will make your trip more memorable are Maxwell, Chadwick, Sasha, Marvin, and a billion others whose names have escaped me. But even if you can't remember their names, they will remember your face and make you feel like an old friend! You can tell that they love their jobs, and many of them seemed to be there for long hours (maybe just hanging out after their shift was over, not really sure) but they started the day with an energetic smile and finished it the same way! Overall we had a great time at the Jewel and we would recommend this resort. If only we could plop it on Negril's beach. :o)

Room Tip: Oceanview rooms are worth it in the Sapphire building, great view of the grounds and the ocean from...

We arrived at the jewels on Sat April 7th. Going through customs was a bit long but it was a saturday. Transfers were fine no problem long ride but no big deal. Upon arrival we were greeted with a drink and a hot towel. Our room was not ready yet but we went and had something to eat.
The Room we had was a basic room. Nice bathroom was nice also no problems with the room. We were on the first floor in the diamond building. The restaurants were good. I preferred platinum over moonstone. I am a picky eater so I did not really like too much of what was on the menus. The buffet is good overall also with a good selection of different foods. The bars are nice and all of the bartenders were fantastic. The beach is beautiful The water is great. The entertainment is basic caribbean flair and okay. The staff are all wonderful. Got to meet the manager scott who really makes you feel at home. Special thanks to Jason (My favorite) Ephiram, Conrad, Mavis, Minnie Me Terrence, Sasha , Garth and to all the others. The staff remember your name and ask you all the time if you are okay mon. Did an excusrion to mystic mountain. Had a great time. Our driver Rusty was great. We did not book the the resort though. We did it on our own and glad we did. I would suggest bringing an umbrella with you because our 2nd day their it rained all day. It does rain off and on and it is a rainforest country. But do pack an umbrella because you may need it. Overall a great time!!

My wife and I just completed our second visit to the jewel and it was not a dissapointment. The food was great the people were amazing, especially Uton, who was by far the best bartender in the resort. We stayed for a week and there was never a point that we were left wanting for anything. The only negative of our trip was the few days that it rained, but the resort did a good job of having activitiies prepared for such instances. The next time that we stay in Jamaica We have discussed visiting a different part of the island, however, the call of the jewel may draw us in again.

I cannot say enough about the Jewel. What a fantastic place with great people. My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to go in Jamaica. It was our first all inclusive and we weren't really sure what we were looking for. I came across the Jewel's website and thought it looked great. Well, after arriving, I can tell you that the pictures do not even do it justice. This place was really amazing and we had the time of our lives. Our trip was fun, adventurous, romantic, and relaxing all in one.

The staff at the Jewel really goes out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Some of our favorite staff members included: Lasonya, Chadwick, Conrad, and Snoop. Their friendly faces, great personalities, and optimistic attitudes really made our trip enjoyable.

The room was wonderful...good temperature after a hot day, nice balcony overlooking the front of the resort, and VERY clean. The room service even folded some of our clothing that was left on the floor. We were very impressed.

The entertainment was great. If you go, be sure to get involved if you want to have a good time. The competitions by the pool and on the beach are just a blast, and everyone is in it to have fun. The guys running the entertainment did a fantastic job.

The pool and ocean were both beautiful. The ocean has a great breeze and the pool has enough chairs and rafts for everyone. I loved being served drinks and fruit on my raft!

The food was good. We are still talking about the awesome meal we ate at Jade. The pizza, grill, and buffet are also good too. We didn't have a chance to eat at Platinum because my boyfriend forgot to bring long pants, but that's okay. I think I liked the breakfast buffet the most. Everything was so fresh!

The drinks were delicious. I was very pleased when my drinks were made with a good amount of alcohol. Many times I hear that all-inclusive resorts make very weak drinks. Ours were great! I recommend the dirty banana!

Overall, this place was just magical. I know we will be back to visit, and I have been recommending to everyone to get on Groupon and buy it! We did not use a Groupon, but I did not feel that the price was too high. We will always remember this trip and we will be seeing the Jewel again very soon!!!

Room Tip: I think that whichever room you are in is fine. All of the rooms seemed nice. I think we were in t...
