“Peace, tranquility and understated luxury...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

We read the reviews and went expecting peace and tranquility, understated luxury, quality food and drink and the ability to just to relax and recharge. We got all of that and more. The Jamaica Inn offers a subtle and serene experience that's hard to find these days. Wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: West Wing... just lovely and so private.

This is Jamaica as it should be....rooms that extend out to spacious verandahs complete with sofa, chairs, table/chairs, refrigerator, writing desk....and all surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. You will spend most of your time on the roofed verandah whatever the weather. It is shady and so comfortable that you will fall asleep as you read, sketch, or meditate. And in view is the lovely pool and beyond that, the white sand beach with crystal clear water. As for the service, it is perfect. Non-intrusive, but there when you need it. Breakfast will be eaten on a terrace with a million dollar view. Tea-time or cocktail time, you will be outdoors. Then for dinner, a three piece band plays old favorites and some couples even dance. Yes, this is elegant and luxurious with a price to match. But like anything in life that reaches perfection, it has its fatal flaw.
Try as they might, the food does not come up to the variety and quality you might expect. The breakfast is fine....with large trays brought table to table -- filled with the best papaya and other fruits. A good breakfast menu with fish gathering in the sea below waiting for tidbits from the bread basket which includes heavy croissants, rolls, and not too great muffins and other pastries. Definitely not Paris, but at more than Paris prices.
The rest of the meals are o.k. You will not starve. But you will be disappointed if you come from NYC, Chicago, London, Paris or other cities with great food.
In fact, I preferred the food at an all-inclusive I visited on the same trip. More local vegetables and delicious Jamaican soups. Just an example of the veggies at Jamaica Inn....a pile of cauliflower, broccoli and carrots on the plate a couple of nights in a row. Really chef, what were you thinking?
As for desserts, the same menu every evening. ..but there was a scrumptious coconut cream pie. A choice of about 5 desserts....adequate but not creative.
Would I go back to this gorgeous place? Yes, but would probably do as others did and just eat breakfast there, skip lunch, and have a good dinner in one of many closeby restaurants. What I loved the most about it was the quiet....no television, radio, or loud amplified music. No activities director with a constant barrage of "Are you o.k? Are you having a great time?"
New cuisine on a much higher level, commensurate with the high food prices would make this the Number One choice in Jamaica.
The crescent of sand and exquisite water will lull you into the best sleep you can imagine, especially after you swim all day. The snorkeling in beach area is not very exciting.

One very important piece of advice....do not take any of the buses from the airport....this is a long ride on the bus but a very pleasant one in a private car with driver. It is worth the price difference to arrive happy rather than harried after 6 stops at previous hotels in Runaway Bay and Ocho.

Room Tip: decide whether you want to be close to the beach/pool area or the food and request accordingly

Everything you read is true! The Inn was recommended by our travel agent, and she was spot on! I've never had such a relaxing vacation before, and my husband and I go on vacation every year! The staff is exceptional, the food is delicious, and rooms are luxurious, and the private beach was "screen saver" perfect! What I think struck me the most was the fact that whatever we requested, the staff was accommodating! Ex: They don't have TV's, radios, or alarms clocks, but I had forgotten my travel clock (only to keep track of my time in the sun so I don't sunburn), and the Manager, Mary, lent me hers! We will definitely be coming home soon to "the Inn."

Room Tip: My husband and I prefer the Premier Ocean Front room. You literally step off your veranda into the...

My husband and I have been married for four years but never had the chance to go on a honeymoon. We wanted to go somewhere quiet and relaxing... not a crazy party place and not somewhere where we felt the rush to constantly go out and "sight-see". Jamaica Inn was recommended to us by a travel agent after we gave her our budget and what we had in mind... it was PERFECT. We stayed for 5 nights and flew in from Arizona to Charlotte to Montego Bay.

Upon arrival we were picked up by Paul, a very friendly gentleman that was obviously proud of his home. We drove approximately 1.5 hours to the hotel from Montego Bay, but the drive was fantastic... so much to look at!

When we got to the Inn we were blown away... the pictures don't do it justice! Everyone was so friendly!! We took advantage of one of the packages that the Inn had to offer (I think it was the Couples SomethingOrOther) and it was worth it! All of our breakfasts and dinners (5 courses) were covered (DELICIOUS) and room service was very reasonable. The Couples Massage overlooking the water was incredible. Private candlelit dinner on the beach - we won't ever forget it. Laying by crystal blue water with no kids and serenity everyday - worth 10 times what we paid.

Marvin even took us on a boat ride to Dunn's River Falls - much better than driving! The trip made us appreciate the gorgeous beach and accommodations at the Inn.... nothing like the crowded massive hotels with millions of tourists and limited sandy spaces. So, there are things to do if you don't want to lay around all day... but that's exactly what we wanted to do!!

A few side notes:
-There is a market within walking distance so you can stock up on some Red Stripe and water for the room. Our driver from the airport was willing to stop at a grocery store on the way to the Inn - I recommend it!
-The Wi-Fi is a little slow, so download movies before you go if you want to watch something before bed.
- There is a dress code after 7pm... I'm sure that's listed somewhere that we didn't see. We ended up buying clothes for my husband there.

The weather was perfect. A little rain one morning but it cleared by 10am. We can't wait to go back!!!!

Room Tip: Personally, I would choose one of their cottages... but if that's out of your price range (like...

A heartfelt thanks to Mary, the manager, the staff and Erick, the owner for a beautiful stay at Jamaica Inn. We loved the tranquility and elegance of the hotel and felt like we were in a moment in time when all is right in the world. We can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Cottage 3 is outstanding.

I returned to the Jamaica Inn after a five-year hiatus, this time with my twenty-something daughter (her first time). The facilities, beach, and wonderful staff were just as I remembered. My daughter absolutely loved the Inn and wants to return soon. The Jamaica Inn is far and away the best vacation spot we have ever experienced. Kudos to everyone there for making our week totally stress-free and relaxing.

Room Tip: There are no sub-par rooms there. Every room fronts on the beach, and the west wing rooms have porc...

We were married at the Jamaica Inn in 2012. The entire staff including Mary, Georgia, Kumar and more went above and beyond to make it the most fabulous and special day of our lives. The entire staff is gracious and wonderful at the Inn. You really do feel like you're 'coming home' when you arrive. We visited again this year and plan to go back at least once every year; I can't imagine going a full 365 days without Jamaica Inn.
The grounds are gorgeous, the rooms are simple, clean and elegant. The food is quite good but the drinks are the BEST.

This the the most relaxing and romantic place. If you are used to the Four Seasons or the Ritz, and can't appreciate a historic, unique boutique hotel, this may not be the place for you. If you recognize and appreciate history, charm and substance - this is where you should go.

Room Tip: The White Suite is absolute top notch luxury. Private sun deck, private pool, wrap-around porches an...
