“This really made our trip to Jamaica fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

A friend and I had arranged to go with Barrett Adventures to see Dunn's River Falls and Secret Falls. We had heard about Dunn's River Falls and how awesome it was, but we especially liked Carolyn's explanation online about getting there before anyone else. Skeptical of the price, $120 pp, we decided to book online and pay in full.

Carolyn was suppose to be our tour guide for the day, but Shawn met us at our resort. At first, we were nervous because we would have preferred to have a female tour guide, being two young women trying to see Jamaica, but we started feeling at ease when talking with Shawn in the car. He answered SOOO many questions. We talked about Jamaican schools, house interest rates, food, culture, etc. He stopped to let us shop at some shops along the road, which seemed to be his friends or people he knew, but we didn't care (we were in Jamaica!). We bought some stuff and went on our way.

Next, we arrived at Dunn's River Falls. Shawn walked us all the way inside the falls to meet a tour guide. We waited for more people, and then we went down to the beach. We were very turned off by the tour guide and the whole experience at Dunn's River Falls. Not only can you not do what you want, but you are instructed to hold hands with multiple people while climbing the falls. I'm sorry, but a <10 year old child isn't going to help me from drowning or falling over in a waterfall. After about two rocks up, my friend and I ditched the tour group all together. It seemed like they were trying to video you the entire time to make you pay for it. Also, before exiting the falls you have to walk through a ton of little shops were people are trying to sell you overpriced junk. We had a great time, but we were excited to travel to the Secret Falls.

Just a short drive, and we were at the secret falls. Kevin took us around the falls, taking pictures of us with my waterproof camera, helping us over rocks, and doing some flirting with us. He showed us where we could swim under waterfalls, climb up rocks, and check out cool caves. The falls were BEAUTIFUL and like nothing I have ever seen before. Very few people were there including us and a lady who took her bed and breakfast people with her. Kevin and a friend of his cracked open an almond for us to eat, and Shawn got an all spice leaf out of a tree for us to smell. The whole experience really felt like we were seeing ACTUAL Jamaica.

After leaving there, we told Shawn we wanted to shop some more, so he took us to Fern Gulley. We bought a few things there, and then we went and ate some patties at a local shop. We bought 2 patties for $4 US Dollars. We told Shawn we wanted to try a Ting soda, so he stopped and got us some. I told Shawn I wanted to get some Blue Mountain Coffee as a gift, but I didn't want to pay a ridiculous amount. No problem, he just took us to the grocery store where it is much cheaper than the little shops!

The whole tour, we felt very safe and never rushed. We pretty much asked Shawn to take us places we wanted, and then we went! No tours I have ever been on have been this flexible. We didn't have to wait in line or be bombarded with our tourists ever.

I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended Barrett Adventures. My friend and I were skeptical of the price, but we definitely got what we paid for and more. We ended up tipping Shawn all together $60 for our trip. We thought he was an excellent tour guide. If ever back in Jamaica, we will definitely book through Barrett Adventures again!

“Secret Falls & Tubing - Unforgettable!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

We are so happy we decided to go with Barrett Adventures for our excursion in Jamaica on July 1st. The driver, Shawn, was prompt, courteous and accommodating. He got us to Secret Falls quickly and safely (the drive was exciting, though!).

When we arrived at the Falls, our guide, Kevin truly made the experience unforgettable. He kept our valuables safe, took great care of our 18 month old and 4 yr old and took many pictures for us with our camera.

The falls were beautiful, with incredible bright blue pools of water and cliffs for jumping into the water and a rope for swinging. I could not recommend this excursion more ( much quiter than Dunn's, we were told).

After our adventure at the falls, Shawn drove us a few minutes away to the lazy river for some tubing. It was a blast, with some bumpy parts that got us all wet and many relaxing, windy parts to just enjoy the scenery. Our 4 year old, although a little nervous to go in a tube by himself, quickly got over his fear and loved every minute of it. The two guides who came along for the ride helped us feel even safer.

We wouldn't hesitate using Barrett again for other excursions down the road. Everything went smoothly, from payment to drop-off back at the resort. Carolyn was also a great help and easy to get ahold of.

“Fantastic day with Barrett Adventures!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

We were in Jamaica just for the day, and cruised into Falmouth. Carolyn picked us up for the tour right at the pier, and kept us entertained with wonderful history and stories about Jamiaca for the longish trip to Ocho Rios. We spent the first part of the tour at the "secret falls" which was truly more beautiful in person than the photos. Kevin was our most excellent guide, He kept us all safe (as well as our cell phones:). Just be aware that one should be in decent physical condition to make the hike up the falls; the lower pool is something anyone could enjoy, but the upper falls, especially jumping off, is not for the faint of heart! I don't think my nine year old could have done it, she and I stayed in the water and watched my older kids and husband jump off the fallls. They had a blast!

We then ate lunch at Scotchies at Discovery Bay, which was really delicious. After a quick lunch we did the Rio Bueno rafting. We had a very personable guide for a lazy ride down the river. It is very pretty, but not very exciting. The best part about it was chatting with our guide and some of the other young fellows; we felt like we got an honest glimpse into the life of a young Jamaican. That really made this part of the tour worth it.

Carolyn was prompt, friendly, and had a genuine love and affection for her Jamaica. It was so interesting to talk with her, while not having to worry about anything in terms of the travel and safety. We were most impressed that she was very careful to keep us on our time schedule so as to not have to worry about missing the ship....very important as quite a bit of travel is required when docking in Falmouth. With Barret Adventures, we totally felt " no worries", and were totally happy!

“Best way to see Jamaica”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

Traveled to Jamaica with our two teenagers and booked two separate tours with Barrett Adventures. This has to be the best way to see the authentic Jamaica. Loxley was our guide for both days. The tours are highly personalized and tailored to your needs. Loxley was great with our teenagers and gave us a wonderful running commentary of life in Jamaica and its unique history. The great thing about Barrett Adventures is that you don't have to deal with big crowds and you are not herded to the typical tourist destinations. Our tours included Carolyn's Secret Falls, tubing on the White River and the zip line. I would do each of these tours again and I would absolutely recommend Barrett Adventures and Loxley. Completely safe and a wonderful way to experience this fabulous island.

“Cannot write a positive enough review!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

Wow. Carolyn Garrett and everyone associated with Garrett Adventures exceeds expectations. Unbelievable. Danny, our host for the day, drove us throughout the Montego Bay region. He allowed us to see the non-tourist portions of the island, told us about the country's history, and hosted us graciously. . He also stopped to take our picture in some beautiful areas, drove us to a gift shop to find some local items, and introduced us to his favorite jerk chicken stand.

We went down to River Adventures and rafted Rio Bueno - great experience for people of all ages.
