I just got back from the Royalton White Sands Beach and Spa Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica. I stayed here with my boyfriend from Jan 6th-Jan 13th. Despite reading several negative reviews, I was not disappointed about what the resort had to offer. The resort is still undergoing a lot of renovations HOWEVER, our room was beautiful, modern and most importantly CLEAN (we had a standard, luxury room which did not face the ocean, so I can only imagine what the other rooms with an ocean view had to offer!). The resort itself has a great layout and I loved how everything was in close proximity (beach, restaurants, spa, coffee shop, gelato shop, etc.).
CHECK IN: Check-in was not bad, although a bit disorganized as there were a lot of guests waiting to check-in and not that many staff around to assist. We did not get into our room right away, but were told to grab lunch at a nearby restaurant and by the time we came back, we were ready to go.
STAFF: All of the staff were very helpful and seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs and provided quality customer service to their guests.
FOOD/RESTAURANTS: There are 4 a la carte restaurants on the resort: Japanese, Steakhouse, Italian and Sports Bar. I went to the first three and didn't really care for any of them. The Japanese was the best because of the entertainment the chef provided when cooking your meal (engaging you in conversation, testing your Jamaican vocabulary, dancing, etc.) I much preferred the buffets as they had a lot more variety. Some nights featured speciality food items like lobster, sushi, etc.
BEACH: BEAUTIFUL! BEST PART OF THE WHOLE RESORT! Always found a seat on the beach, never felt overcrowded (perhaps it was the week we were there), soft white sand, not much seaweed in the ocean, all great qualities for myself! Hands down, the best part of being on the beach was the drink service by the staff (yes they come to you to take your drink orders - though sometimes it took awhile, but not a big deal) AND the lunchtime JERK CHICKEN AND JAMAICAN PATTIES WERE TO DIE FOR! We had them every single day!! *yummy*
SPA: Definitely overpriced for the services BUT that's expected at any resort. I had the "Inner Peace" massage for 25 mins which cost $55.
GYM: I did manage to go three times during my stay. It is quite small with a couple of treadmills, an elliptical and 2 bikes. Also, one bench, some weights and a couple of other standard equipment. But while you're on the elliptical or treadmill you can see the beach/ocean which is beautiful.
OTHER: For families there is a cute little waterpark with smaller waterslides for the kid and larger ones which adults can also go on. They are actually really fun! The Gelato and Coffee Shop were also great additions!
Overall, I rated this property 4/5 because there is still some work to be done with the resort and the restaurants need to step it up with the food quality however, I am sure in few months to a year, it could definitely be a true 5 star!
Go for the rooms facing towards the beach and not the back of the resort. We had a room facing the b...
