“First time in Jamaica”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2013

We purposefully chose not to stay at an upscale, all inclusive beach resort. This property was high on a hill with a great view of the Caribbean! It was quiet and secluded, which made nights great for sleeping. Jennifer and her staff were pleasant and made us feel like family! They were in the process of installing upgrades throughout the villa, but this did not interfere with our level of comfort. We had rented a car for this trip ( so we could do day trips to Ocho Rios, Negril, Falmouth, and Mo Bay. It turned out that the car was a necessity for this location, since it was not on the main road and we liked to come and go at our leisure.

My friend's and I stayed at the Emerald view and it’s the worst place ever. The pictures on the Internet are amazing and the view is spectacular but the view is the only thing going for this place.
Upon arrival we settled our bill with Jennifer and 1 day before checkout she told us we owe her $160. Jennifer is very deceitful!!!! She quoted us a price over the phone and changed it the day before checkout. Please get all prices in writing. Jennifer and her family live there. If you’re looking for peace and quite, forget it. The little girl plays after school and there are toys all over the place, looking messy.

The sheets smell old, like it hasn’t been washed in years. The water in the shower doesn't drain well and I have to wait at least 15 minutes to take a shower after my friend. My friends and I went in the pool and it was rusty and we spotted a huge bug doing laps so we got scared and left. The headboard in our room wasn't connected to the frame so it kept banging into the wall and making noise. There was no garbage can in our room so had to ask for one. The water pressure is very low so it takes longer to take a shower and your standing in a pool of dirty water. There were no rugs on the bathroom floor so we had to use a towel. Make sure you bring your own shampoo and conditioner. The iron board had a piece of metal sticking up that put holes in my dress. The iron board needs a new covering and the iron is so cheap it doesn't get too hot. The wifi only works in selected area, so it might not work in your room. The dresser draws in the rooms and hard to open and the smell of moth balls are over powering.

The prices for Duran to take you anywhere is ridiculous!! Its $40 to go to the hip strip, $70 per person for Negril etc… the prices seems like they are always changing, depending on the guest and how much they can get out of you. There’s no real beach by the resort. The beach at the chill out hut is filled with seaweed and they said we couldn't swim there because there is jellyfish in the water.

Jennifer took us to the hip strip one day and told us not to trust anyone; she wanted us to only use her services so she can get the money. Thank God we meet a great cab driver, which charged less than Duran and Jennifer. If you stay at this resort you will pay a lot in transportation fees. It’s far from everything and although you save on the rate per night, it's not worth it. The Emerald View need a face-lift and a well over due makeover. It's a long walk to the resort from the bottom of the hill in the blazing sun. The only thing that is nice about this place is the view and the Jamaican breakfast that cost a whopping $10. Dinner is $15 per person but don’t count on that price it might change by the time you get there.

Room Tip: get everything in writing and never pay with your credit card.

Our first stop on a week tour of Jamaica was this breath taking villa at the top of a huge lush green mountain. The staff was super helpful and was willing to do whatever to make our stay great! Durran the driver should us a great time and waited for us at each of our excursions which made us feel safe . We went in a little store to get late nite munchies and when a crowd of locals rushed the store and we had the line tied up for quite a while, there he was had posted up right next to us to make sure all was well and we didnt have any problems . Jennifer was sweet and super informative. I can only suggest a few updates to property. But lots of views and hammocks and a great pool. It was a great start to my 32nd bday in Jamaica , and a great feel for the real Jamaica. We WILL b back!

Amazing guest house with impeccable service. The owner comes out to greet you herself to make sure you feel at home. The rooms are clean and neat. There is also a nice view of the ocean from the rooms.

This resort is a bed and breakfast with a view and your own private array of fabulous staff there to meet your every need!! Ms. Jennifer, the owner, went out of her way to answer all of our questions and made it possible for us to have the best trip we could...She is kindness @ it's best!! Ms. Christine serves up the best breakfast and local Jamaican cuisine in the resort's small cafe!! Her cooking is second to none!! And...Duran! We love Duran, the resort's driver! You will either have to use him as a driver or rent a car which I wouldn't recommend for newbies. Duran gives an absolutely outstanding experience of Jamaican life @ it's best...a true back- stage pass of Jamaica with a local who' got swag and knows all the best places to play, party and eat!! Can't wait to go back and see our Jamaican family...you guys are the best!!

We really enjoyed our week here but I'm not sure it's for everyone as its a little way from Monetgo Bay (20 minutes drive $45 dollar taxi ride) so if your not comfortable walking around or with local buses get a car or use Duran.
Positives: large comfortable rooms, home cooked traditional food, knowledgable friendly staff, Duran's tours, free shuttle to local store & restaurants.
Negatives: big house so water pressure wasn't great for showers,
Duran's tours are pretty expensive for what they are but he make you feel very safe & is happy to show you local places for food, it's a family house so expect children.
Overall we really enjoyed our time here and felt very well looked after. Ms Christine cooks wonderful traditional food.

I was on the North Coast for two+ weeks with my family of five (5). Spent the last 3 days at Emerald VR; as it was easy access to the airport (20 minutes drive). The staff was very friendly (thanks Jenn) and the place was clean. Enjoyed the food from the kitchen (the coffee, excellent). The view to the ocean was PRICELESS; well BREATH TAKING.

Had my own transport, so mobility was no issue.

Gates were close at dusk and got opened when requested (felt safe during the stay). Great for those wanting to escape the busy city and traffic.
