“Great trip, average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2012

I just returned from our yearly trip to Jamaica 2/2/12 to 2/6/12. We had a great time on the island visiting family and friends. This is our third time staying at Holiday Inn Sunspree Montego Bay over the last six years. Here is the real deal on this resort. If you are staying a short visit 3-4 days its perfect and dont expect much. The room #3316 are average and below average, my wife and I actually kept our clothes above the closet rack because the dresser drawers were literally falling apart and there were stains in the drawers. The bathroom was very tight compared to other resorts we stayed at in the past. The staff is wonderful, helpful and friendly. The entertainment is a little like weak, more like Jamaica's Got Talent show, for 2-3 nights I cant complain. Room cleaner actually showed up one day after 6pm for a room cleaning and we turned her away because we had just returned from town and wanted to rest before dinner, we thought it was kind of late as we were out all day and this was not done earlier. The food is adequate, not many variety as other hotels on island, there was too much soda machines and not enough healthier choices like fruit drinks or water. The Jerk Hut was perfect, good jerk pork and jerk chicken and cold beer. They made a pretty nice Super Bowl party in East beach area, projection screen and two 40inch flat screen TV, plenty of food and beers. At night we slept with the AC off and screen door open because the 3rd floor was nice and cool and AC very noisey. This hotel needs some renovation in many areas, this was listed at 4 star rating, maybe at best 2.5 to 3. For a quick get away, this is fine, close to airport, friendly staff, average food. My wife actually preferred the Royal Decamerron Hotel over Holiday Inn, which she and her friends stayed last year. If staying longer consider other Resorts.

For a great winter get-away, the Holiday Inn SunSpree in Montego Bay is a good value for couples or families, with plenty of activities if you so desire, or just time for a pleasurable R&R.

We found the resort clean, rooms comfortable, grounds well kept and colorful, top notch entertainment, food good (be careful regarding spicy additions) and drinks plentiful. The service was excellent and the staff helpful and pleasant.

Our stay was the perfect mid-winter break needed with warm temperatures and constant sea breezes. The resort even hosted a Super Bowl party for football fans.

All in all, it was a wonderful, all-inclusive destination.

Room Tip: If you prefer a little more quiet but further from main pool and dining, an adult area is located ne...

We had a great time here! The staff was very helpful, attentitive and friendly. The resort was very well kept and clean. It is also in a great location. Our room was clean, spacious, and the bed comfortable. The beach was clean and there were plenty of lounge chairs. The food was average. If you want to go to any restaurant, you have to make reservations (except the buffet). You can only make reservations the day before and you have to be in the lobby at 6:30 am to get into the restaurant of your choice (who wants to get up at 6:30 am on your vacation to stand in line to make a dinner reservation?) The Japanese restaurant, Kenko, was not open the entire time we were there. We were never able to get into Sorento. We did manage to get into Seabreeze and De Terrace. In these restaurants, the service is slow, the menus are very limited and the portions are small. In Seabreeze, I ordered a salad and it consisted of 2 lettuce leafs with a tomato wedge on the side. I ordered chicken wings for an appetizer and only got 3 little chicken niblets. We were still hungry when we left Seabreeze. De Terrace was a little better but it is loud in there because of the entertainment on the main stage so it is better if you can make an earlier dinner reservation. We were there at 8jpm and we could hardly hear each other talk. The food at the buffet was ok but it got repetive after a few days and because the buffet is open-air, the food got cold very quickly. When we were there, It was windy everyday and the water choppy. Because of this, you couldnt do any of the water sports that are included. They wouldnt even let us use the snorkel equipment. We did manage to get to use it one day for 30 minutes. We were disappointed by this. Following are some tips to keep in mind when staying here:
1. When you eat at the buffet, you should keep one person sitting at your table at all times, otherwise, they will clean your table while you are getting food and when you come back someone else will be sitting there. This happened to us and other people as well.
2. If you plan on spending a lot of time in your room or you like to turn in early, or want peace and quiet, do not get a room with a pool view. There is something going on at the main stage all day long and it doesnt stop until 10:30-11:00 pm. It's pretty noisy and you cant even hear tv.
3. The free drinks are served in tiny juice glasses, so bring or buy your own mug and they will fill it up for you.
4. Take time to get some jerk chicken at the Jerk Bar. It's amazing!
5. The jacuzzi that is located by the main pool with the ocean view is NOT hot at all! Everybody was complaining about it. The jacuzzi in the adult pool is hot but small.
Overall, we had a wonderful time here and would definetely go back!

Room Tip: If you want peace and quiet, do not get a room with a pool view. There is always something going on...

Returned from Holiday Inn Montego Bay on February 1, 2012. 2nd time at the resort enjoyed every minute of it. I will give you some helpful tips and the pros and cons of the Resort.

What travellers want to know.
1) The Beach
Not a breathtaking beach, for some you may find the beach a dissapointment, it's broken up into many small beaches. No, you can't take long strolls along the beachside. Plus side, clean clear water, shallow for kids and small island only a 100 metres out the kids enjoy walking over and building sandcastles around the island. Very safe and calm waters protected by a reef very little chance of being overpowered by waves or undercurrents. For me the beach is A-OK !
Pool area great for kids, life guards are around for added safety. Thanks Darrin, Sophia for always keeping an eye. All the lifeguards were attentive. Water is only 3 feet deep in the main pool area. Resort should have no smoking around pool or at least remind guests to put there butts in the garbage rather than in the pool or the ground around the pool. This problem is mostly due to the inconsiderate visitors who show little respect and litter throughout the day.
2) The Grounds
Very well kept, groomed with lots of well manicured shrubs, trees and flowers. Groundskeeper Anthony told us all about the flowers of Jamaica. Thank you Anthony !
3) The Rooms
Clean and functional. No major problems, lots of hot water, I didn't use the air conditioner so I can't comment. Cleaned and refreshed daily. Thank you Lorretta.
4) Food
No problems, ate a variety of foods tasty and more importantly no after effects common in Mexico and Cuba. Special kudos to Paul the omlette master, and his prodigy a young fellow who also makes a great tasting omlette. You should always find something, I loved the roasted pig night, it was tasty
5) Service
Always great, everyone is working hard to provide quality service to all. I want to mention a few people who made my stay very enjoyable; Carren, Mikey, Candice, Simone, Nakeisha, Kimberly, Horace. Please note the entire staff works hard and all of you should be mentioned. Thanks to all of you !
Respect is important give some and you will get some, sometimes a tough task for vacationers expecting everything ASAP. Take it easy ! Get into the what I call the Marley mode "let's get together and feel alright"
Special thanks to night manager Mr. Smith, always pleasant to chat with and can answer any concerns you may have. Cheers
Thanks Winsome for your insight and pleasant manner (and a beautiful smile).
Entertainment
Refreshing with lots of variety, the entertainment crew is always working to insure guests are being entertained. Thank you Noel, Davia and the entire crew. Wow some of the shows were really exciting (loved steel drums night)
Overall, great place to chill and enjoy, if you come with unattainable expectations you will be dissapointed. Depends on the persona of the individual. I like to think i'm laid back and easy going. If you are uptight, self centred and walk with a pickle, perhaps you should stay home and enjoy Married with Children reruns.
Hope this helps !!

Our almost annual trek to this destination was again, satisfying in every way. Ten nights this time and it yet again, went to quickly. Beach was nice, Adult pool the only activity and agreeable ocean front room on the 4th floor filtered out all extraneous noises. This time we were finally resolved to choke down a full platter of the jerk pork and chicken found at the Jerk Hut and did so with abundant drinks softening the pillaging of our tummies. Met old friends and enjoyed our relaxing stay. It may not be the swankiest, cleanest, best place on the Island but we shall return until we are physically no longer able to do so. A Best Value and certainly meets our meager standards for a do nothing vacation.

Room Tip: If I did that, our preferred room might not be available to us when we return.
