We were sold this holiday on the back of it being a similar standard to Excellence which we have been with before and it just wasnt.

Some very nice touches such as pizza man and rum man of a lunch time, evening bars and entertainment were plentiful and good quality and the beach was lovely.

However this was meant to be a new resort, the sunbeds looked worn and we had to change bedrooms 5 imes due to fixtures and fittings being damaged or faulty, eg toilet fell off the wall, wardrobe doors fell off, bed not secured! The bars very rarely had all the branded drinks in them and when they ran out they ran out and didnt seek out more. Staff took the 'no worries' attitide far too literally and we constantly came back to find our bedroom door not shut properly, dirty rooms and unstocked mini bar.

Such a shame as the resort has real potential but service and up keep is just not good enough.

Family of four from Ireland, two in St.James & two in Wild Orchid. We all loved our rooms, really spacious, comfortable & clean all the time. Everyday we had fresh towels, a clean room & everything was replaces as it was used. The beds were really comfortable but I was hardly in it as there was so much to do that I didn't want to waste time sleeping! My brother loved the room service menu & service & used it quite a bit. The min-bar was a really good feature & we never got the chance to get dehydrated. Very handy having suncream in the room too. All the food was really good quality but breakfast was my favourite meal of the day -such a big selection & relaxed atmosphere. All four of us loved Oraldo's singing in the morning - how could you not! It was great having other food on offer between meals - the fresh coconuts & tastey burgers were particular favourites. We were staying in the Preferred Club but my brother & I spent our time at the Wild Orchid main pool as it was more fun & had a great swim-up bar with excellent staff. However, the loungers in Preferred were much more comfortable for sunbathing on because they had cushions. The Preferred areas are perfect if you want some peace & relaxation - we didn't! Lunch was lovely too & for dinner Bordeaux was definitely our favourite restaurant, great staff who were good fun & very good cheesecake.
The Piano Bar & the Wild Orchid bars were the two we went to most in the evenings. The activities such as pool & beach volleyball were great fun & we played almost every day. It was lovely to relax in the hot tubs in the evenings as the sun went down. My brother used the gymn every morning. The talent show was very entertaining & the steel drum bands & the dancers were brilliant. Had a wonderful holiday in Secrets & I've never met such friendly, fun & happy people as the Jamaicans. They all worked so hard but managed to make it looked effortless. Would love to live with such relaxed people! Can't say enough about this resort, it really is as good as it looks. The fountains/plants/gardening made it a beautiful place to walk around & relax. Lots of photos on their Facebook page to give you an idea.

Having stayed at this complex for 28 days in the last 9 months I feel i am more than qualified to judge this hotel despite what you might read this place is truly amazing, the staff are very friendly and helpful, The food is very good and should you get something you don't like just order something else no problem, We have stayed in the PC club and the hotel part and were both excellent, the rooms are very comfortable with spa tub in the bathroom and a tub on the balcony to bath while watching the sun go down, The beach is great and yes if you look hard enough can find a rock think i saw three on the whole beach , in my opinion just get there and you will have an amazing time, Many thanks to Mr Meany and Mr Huhn for there efforts in making this place so enjoyable. One word of warning the Cabs are very expensive nothing to do with the hotel just how it is there, hope to see you soon Steve Roberts

We just arrived home (to freezing rain-Yuck) from a 5 day stay at Secrets Wild Orchid.Check In- We arrived early (12:30) and were able to check in immediately...we stayed in the regular suite at Wild Orchid and we had a fabulous room right in front of the ocean and gazebo...great view, easy access to everything...from what I could tell there were really no "bad" rooms at this hotel. Room-I thought the rooms were beautifully appointed...i loved the artwork and modern amenities...the jacuzzi tub was really incredible but be forewarned that it takes about 25 minutes to fill. The rooms did not have alot of privacy but that doesn't bother my boyfriend and I...there was a sheer curtain seperating the bathroom and bed area. My only issue with the room was ease of use...you have to have the patio door locked before the A/C will come on (no issue with that...but no one told us and we were uncomfy the first night...there is also a motion sensor that will cut the A/C off if it doesn't sense movement at night (hence another hot night). There are also ALOT of mosquitoes...not a big deal if you keep the patio closed but we kept forgetting! There was also alot of small issues like crumbling drywall in the closet, the shower was lovely but did leak ALOT of water onto the floor...not things that actually bothered us but I was suprised at the lack of detail orientedness for a new hotel. Overall the room was very clean and we had housekeeping service everyday (although they like to start early!). We didn't really use the turndown service because we were always getting ready for dinner at the time they came.

FOOD- I am a food person...I was extremely excited to have all you can eat food 24/7 without having to worry about what I could afford to order, etc. I knew going in that resort food is organized and made differently than at regular restauarants (ie: it is made banquet style in a huge kitchen that is in the center of all the restuarants so most of the food is held and then served (instead of coming straight out of a chef's line).
Long story short: the breakfast buffet was delicious and had the best selection...plenty of fresh fruit, pastries, fresh egg stations, etc...lots of good smoothies and juices too. Eat lots of breakfast...there was also a lunch buffet at the same area that had pretty good selections with a fresh pasta station, good salad/taco bar, and some hot food. There is a jerky cart and burger cart walking the beach at lunch time if you are just hanging on the beach...these are the BEST choices. The two restuarants by the pool were gross. The dinner restaurants had good selections but the food was not freshly cooked...it was held and served. The hibachi and blue montain were the best...we also spent ate at the Seawind restaurant at a neighboring resort (you could walk) that had a $39 lobster dinner that was DELICIOUS!

We traveled to this resort from January 22-28th. The overall impression of the resort was that it was very nice. We upgraded to PC when we arrived due to our room being on the ground floor near the activity pool and they had no other rooms to put us in and we weren't happy. PC was nice but isn't a necessity to make your stay more enjoyable. The rooms are the exact same except for the soaking tub on the balcony. With PC, you have your own separate pool/beach area, small buffet/bar service and free wireless internet or use of the two machines in the lobby. The rooms were very nice and the bed was very comfortable. The mini fridge in the room did not keep the drinks very cold and I feel that it's because they are enclosed in a cabinet and they don't have ventillation to let the heat out that the fridge exhausts. The room was always cleaned by the time that we went back to our room from the beach. One day we didn't want the room cleaned and we had to sign off on a paper stating so - I thought that was nice. The pools are all very nice. The heated ones are very warm but it didn't bother me much. We never had problems getting towels like other travelers have indicated. We found the food to be above average for an all inclusive resort. I had read on some reviews that the food was inedible - not sure how anyone could say that. The food definitely isn't the same as it is in the States but it was much better than we were expecting. Our favorite restaurants were the Italian and the French. We were not overly impressed with the hibachi but it was still a nice experience. The breakfast buffet was always really good - the coffee man was my favorite!! There were plenty of choices to choose from. The jerky and burger cart that came around were always convenient if you didnt feel like sitting down to eat. The workers at the resort were all extremely friendly, they always said hello when they saw you and made sure that you were having a good time. I had read on some reviews that some workers didn't seem to happy but I didn't notice this once. I understand that we are on vacation and people expect top notch service with a smile at all times, however, I feel that some peoples expectations are much too high and that these workers seem to be overworked and the resort is understaffed. Therefore, they seem pretty upbeat in my eyes. I'm almost positive that when people are no longer on vacation they aren't that excited to be at work on a day to day basis so let's keep that in mind! If there was one thing I could change about the resort it would be that the beach was wider. I didn't feel that it was as rocky as most people suggest that it was was. Overall, we really enjoyed this resort!! If you have been concerned about this resort, please don't be!!

The resort was great but with a few issues that need to be ironed out.

What we liked: Despite some reviews, we found the food to be great. Our favorite was the hibachi. We had a blast there and the chef was amazing. All the other restaurants were good too. The buffet was typical buffet food but it was still good. We never had a complaint. All food could have been hotter but still very tasty. The coffee shop was nice too. Top shelf drinks that were not watered down at all. Red Stripe, Red Stripe Light and Heineken were available. Although, the Heine was made in Jamaica and tasted like the Red Stripe. There was always a bar open somewhere so we were never at a loss for a drink. The beach was nice but oddly the water was cold. The two pools were complete opposites with regard to temperature. The pool bar water was warm and the other pool was cool. Contrary to some reviews it did not have anything to do with urinating in the water. The water being pumped into the pools was indicative of the pool temperature.

Some things we didn't like: We thought check in might be cool but it wasn't. We were greeted at 2:30 pm and led to the lobby where we were given drinks. We were advised that our rooms, 4 of them, would be ready by 3:00 and it was suggested that we get something to eat and come back. When we came back at 3:30 our rooms still weren't ready. We were then given the option to upgrade for varying dollar amounts. When we declined the guy who made the offer told us to hang on and he went to another couple and asked them the same information. At 5:30 I was mad and asked what was going on and we were told that 3 of the rooms were ready. When we got to the room our bags were there at it seemed really nice. However, upon further inspection we found it to be a bit grimy, especially the bathroom. We received turn down service twice while others in our party had it every night. There were even 2 days that our room was not even cleaned and we had to call house keeping. With regard to the staff, not all of them were friendly or acknowledged us. If you go to Mexico, EVERYONE says Hola! 1 bartender didn't even speak when we asked for a drink at the pool bar.

Activities: We took the free bike tour and it was quite interesting. We were taken to a store where a local radio station was having some sort of junket in the parking lot. We assumed that one of our guides wanted to check it out. Then they took us to the new stadium being built and lastly, to some shops at the dock where ships dock. We had fun with it but that's the kind of group we are. You need to be opened minded if you take this tour and just have fun with it.

We went on a zip line tour and it was amazing. We really had a lot of fun and our guides were great.

To sum up, I'm not sure we'd go back just based on some of the inconsistencies and overall cleanliness. On the other hand, we really had fun and if you don't mind any of the issues that bothered us, I'd say go. We still had a really great time.
