secrets at montego bay is divided into two sections secrets st james and secrets wild orchid which are both in the same secured compound (technically one big hotel with a north and south wing with two different names and both having separate lobby/check in areas). Check in was efficient and took about 10 minutes. We were offered a welcome fruit punch and there were these amazing chocolate cookies which you could help your self to as you enter the lobby. If staying on the wild orchid side the restaurants are very near whilst if on the other side (st james) then 5 minutes walk. The hotel (talking about both as everything is shared by both wild orchid and st james) has two swim up bars one nearer to wild orchid and the other nearer to st james. Both swim up pools have another pool just near it...note you cannot swim from one pool to another though! which was a tiny bit annoying. We stayed in wild orchid junior suite which had a jacuzzi bath which was amazing. Thouggh be careful to switch the jacuzzi power on once in bath as otherwise the water will go in the room and on the bed as it did with us! seems silly but we did hear it happen to other couples as well and also be careful as i heard someone slipped as well!. The bathroom has jack and jill wash basins with separate shower and wc. In the room you have a sofa ,desk, chair, mini fridge stocked with fizzy drinks and beers, a hair dryer, iron, iron board, and a wet steam blower too, alarm with iPhone dock which was missing from our room. House keeping was not to great I must say for 6 out of 7 nights we stayed as the room was made up very late in the evening. When housekeeping person changed on our last night it was much better as everything was replenished i.e. face towels and shower gel and shampoo which wasn't the case as the first six nights. Every night you can have a turn down service at night and also receive the next days hotel activities. We only received two small chocolates on the first night and that was it, no more for the rest of the nights (not sure if we were supposed to or not as we did receive them every night during our stay in secrets cancun). The hotel has nice fine dining at night and i would highly recommend going on the website to see the restaurants as i would just be duplicating it. Being veggetarian I will only be reviewing what veggie food i ate and the french, italian and pan asian were my favourite of all. In the french restaurant the onion soup with croutons was to die for! in the pan asian one the chef acknowledged our veggie needs and made veggie sushis and also cooked our food first before cooking the non veg food which was very kind of him ( the chef cooks the food in front of you whilst seated in a group of 10 max). The italian penne very hot and chilly and just right for someone who likes a lot of hot spicy food!!. Entertainment at night was excellent when comparing it to the entertainment at secrets cancun. One night there was a live steel band, another night a live music band, and a amazing circus ( one of the person performing was 91 years old! amazing). The hotel had two colourful parrots which were kept in a cage and during the day they could be found on nearby trees. I did get a chance to hold one of them which was very nice. It also has two peacocks and a few pea hens as well. During the day in the hotel a jerk chicken carts goes around at 12 noon and also a coconut cart...you have to be very quick as i was only able to get one coconut during my seven day stay as the got finished very fast. You can also add a bit of rum to the coconut if you want to which i though was very cool. The hotel has a games are with one table tennis table, a huge connect four board, 4/5 pool tables and a giant chess table, a gaming slot machine room which was open 24 hours ( where sport matches could also be watched if you didn't want to watch in the room), atm room and just near all these games were a few shops selling gems, sun tan creams, alcohol and souvenirs which were a bit over priced as expected. Near here was also a coffee bar which had cold and hot coffees (amazing again as it had cold coffee rum and other ingredients) and an ice cream vending machine. We went on a combined day bob marley and duns river waterfall trip was a full day from 8.40-7.30pm. Long day trip but was good. Again tours were booked from the hotel as there are no other tour places in the vicinity of the hotel. The hotel had a shopping tour also available which left at 10am or 1pm and took you to three places: the hip strip, blue diamond shopping centre and art and craft shops for 17.50 us dollars return trip which last approx 4 hours. We didn't do this as we saw the latter two during our excursion. There is a nature walk almost everyday at 10.00 which i would recommend as well. A bike ride also happens almost everyday as well. The beach was sectioned and cordoned in areas as to where it was safe to swim as we had gone in the jelly fish season so there was possibilities you can get stung. Luckily we didn't get stung. The hotel also had snorkelling available so one member of staff would take a group out to snorkel which we did do and was amazing. Also non motored water sports were free and we took advantage of kayaking. On whole the stay here was amazing and much better than the secrets in cancun as we felt more welcome and at ease here and i would defiantly recommend it to someone going to montage bay to stay here ( its only 15 min car ride away from airport).
