My hubby and I just returned from Secrets 30 Jun 2013. The overall experience was awesome. Big thumbs up to Kimberly at the front desk.....please ask for her and she will give you service with a smile. Also big ups to Chef Michael in the World Café. He was so humbly and delightful. We loved the room (2517 in the main building). It had the best panoramic view of all the rooms. The facilities were breathtaking and clean. I enjoyed the staff who gave service with a smile..........only one draw back and that was Richard that is in the UVC department. This department sells property for future return. He was an arrogant pig and should not be working in such a capacity but he did not steal our joy becuz the overall trip was superb. Thanks to all at Secrets...........I will return in the very near future.

Room Tip: Rooms 2516, 2517, 2518 in the main blg on the 5th floor. Best views!

The resort itself is beautiful but very overpriced. We booked through RCI and arrived to find out from the Consierge Charlene who informed us we would be charged an additional $382 per day for the all inclusive portion much to our surprise. She then agreed to lower it to $300 per day. We immediately asked if we changed our travel arrangements if we would be given a refund and she said that would be no problem. She scheduled an appointment with us for the following morning at 10 a.m. We went to the room and called the airline and changed the flights to come home on Wednesday instead of Saturday. We went to meet Charlene Sundary morning at 10 a.m. and were told she was in a meeting! We told the person on duty Kevin we had changed our flight and were told we would get a refund for the difference. We checked back several times throughout the day and there was never any sign of Charlene it was as if she disappeared. We were eventually told we would receive the refund of $900 after we left. We demanded the receipt Tuesday night prior to leaving as our flight left at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. When we went to meet with Shaun she was missing and we were handed an envelope with the credit receipt in it. Oddly, but not surprising, after returning home our credit card still does not have a credit for the amount of $900 but does in fact have the original charge on it. They lied about the credit. They are frauds!!!

The food is not five star it is sub par at best. Lunch was the worst meal of the day. We tried several different restaurants and the jerk chicken cart was the best by far. Sitting by the pool you wait a very long time for drinks so be prepared to help yourself. The room was nice but on the first night the remote did not work so we called the front desk was were told someone would bring batteries. We waited two hours and at 10 pm. someone showed up with batteries. He finally gave us a new remote. During the night a horrible load noise happened for about an hour. It finally stopped. We were not sure what it was until the next day when we discovered it was the mini bar refridgerator fan malfunctioning. We again called the front desk and were told it would be replaced Monday morning. It was not replaced until Tuesday after we called again about not having any cold drinks. The staff seemed somewhat helpful until you want a refund and then apparenly fraud is the norm. We are contesting this and want everyone to know it is not only overpriced but not worth the trip. We will tell everyone not to go to this resort.

We stayed at the Secrets Wild Orchid for our honeymoon and we were very impressed with it. From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty. The service was unbeatable, the food was great, and the entertainment was fantastic.
As for any negative things, I guess the only thing I could complain about is the fact that you had to pay for wifi. If the booze and food is flowing, why not the Internet? Also, there was one shop in the Promenade that had very pushy sales associates (if you've been here you know which one it is). Stay clear of it. We brought it to the attention of the management, but never found out if it had been resolved. Finally, most of the shops only accept credit cards or room charges, so only bring cash for tips and maybe a little spending money.
If you plan to stay at this resort, there are SEVERAL staff members that are highly energetic, friendly, fun, prompt and helpful. The entertainment team specializes in helping you have a great time, whether it's hanging out by the pool or playing some volleyball. And the front desk is always prompt and helpful.
Overall, if you are reading this and considering coming to Jamaica, DO IT! You will not be disappointed!

The only reason I did not give this place a 5 is because the entertainment is seriously lacking. They really need to step this area up. The house band is just OK. And the circus nite was just OK. The steel band was not good. Other nice resorts like this put more effort into planning nightly entertainment that does not revolve around the guest entertaining each other. The entertainment team really try to make the most of it. Sky and Hennessy were stand outs for us. In a word...get some shows and professional acts in there!
Other than that, I have nothing but good things to say about this place. Check in was seamless. We were not hassled about going to a presentation. The room was nice and clean. By the way, I heard people complaining about the lack of privacy in the rooms, between the bedroom and bathroom...please bear in mind that while other adults are welcomed there, it really is more of a couples or single people, who are comfortable around each other, type of resort. So the rooms have a very open lay out. They were clean and housekeeping was great. Marcia, who did our turn down service most nites was extra special. We didn't get to interact with the daytime cleaning folks, but they always did a great job.
The pools and grounds were constantly being groomed and maintained. The peacocks roaming around were a nice touch. The food was excellent. Our favorite restaurant was the Japanese. The waiter, Nashville always made our time here very special. The young, male manager at this place was also very nice and accomodating. We made reservations at the hibachi table one night and ate at the other tables that you did not need a reservation for a couple of nights and the food was good at both. On the really warm nights, it can get quite warm in a couple of the restaurants that are open air, so don't overdress.
Also, worth noting is that we have stayed at several all inclusives and this is the first that had a lobster night and I don't mean a limited amount per guest. They had delicious tails on the grills in the buffet that you could visit as much as you wanted. I was very impressed and I'm not even a big lobster fan, but I was impressed that they didn't skimp on the food at all.
Oh and the room service was great. I have to mention Annika who took the order over the phone during the day and Stacy, who delivered our food most of the time. They were wonderful and the food was always good. They, along with everyone else who we encountered in that dept were really great.
Oscar in the Sea side grill made our last dinner there very special.
And the jerk chicken carts and fruit carts that roll around daily were a really nice touch!
For those like us who work out while on vacation, the gym was nice with modern, well maintained equipment. Some people who went early (before 9am) complained that it was a bit crowded, but since we like to sleep in on vacation, have breakfast and then stroll to the gym around 11, there was never a crowd and we didn't have to wait for a treadmill or elliptical.
Overall, this is a really great resort and we had a great, relaxing time. Also, if you book at the the St James, you will be getting the same amenities and use of the grounds as those booked in Wild Orchid. So book where you get the best value.
I used PPP for our airport transfer and a day off site. "Mr Pugh" the owner was very nice and informative. I recommend him. I'll also post a review on him as well.

Our first visit to SWO was in June 2011. We fell in love with the resort and had to return with friends. Our second visit was from June 16-28, 2013. Because we were return guests, we were upgraded to an oceanfront room with a king sized bed. We stayed in room 2312. Concierge brought us a wine and a cheese platter a few hours into our stay. The reason why we returned to SWO was because of the people. Every staff member is genuine and really wants you to be happy during your stay. The word "no" does not exist at this resort unless it's the phrase, "No problem, Mon." One of my favorite staff members is Ruth the mini bar maid. She works on the west end of floors 3,4 and 5. She is AWESOME. She gave us many bags of M & M's, banana chips and she gave us 2 one-liter bottles of rum! If you take care of the staff, they will take care of you. Ruth also called us the morning we departed to say good-bye. I was so touched by her kindness that I teared up when I said good-bye to her.

Our friends were very impressed by SWO as well. They will be returning, with friends, in the next few years. I would also like to say that Damien (AKA Double D) the bell hop is awesome and if you ever need a taxi driver ask for Daisy. I loved her so much that I got her address so we could keep in touch.

There are thousands of people who visit Secrets and not everyone is going to be happy with everything. However, I do feel that Secrets does an excellent job accommodating everyones' needs. THIS IS A MUST SEE RESORT. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!!

As the weather in the UK has been so lousy of late, the wife and I were looking for some summer sun but with a bit more luxury thrown in. After hunting around, we settled on Secrets Wild Orchid and found a great deal on for flights and a weeks all inclusive stay at the Wild Orchid resort.

We'd never done an all inclusive holiday before, so were naturally a little unsure about just what we would get for our money - we needn't have worried! We decided to pay a little extra and go for the "Preferred Club" option, which (as other reviews have already stated) included WiFi access in the rooms, a preferred club lobby with drinks and snacks, a more private beach area, alcohol in the room etc.

Now, what you feel about this option really depends on whether you feel you'll get something out of the extras being offered.. Given the price of hotel WiFi can vary wildly from place to place, this alone was worth the extra (to us) and with all of the other things bundled in, we certainly felt like we made full use of it all.

So, onto the experience. Well, the Wild Orchid resort and the St. James resort effectively combine into one very large resort but after a few days of being around and talking to other guests, we definitely came away with the impression that of the two - Wild Orchid is the one to go for.. For a start, the ocean view rooms for most of the WO accomodations aren't obscured by large palm trees - something that seems to affect a great many more rooms on the St. James side.. We'd also heard from people that the overall level of service at St. James wasn't as good (rooms not being cleaned quickly, minibars not being refreshed etc.) - this isn't something we could confirm in any way, as the service we experienced was top notch.

*Nothing* was too much trouble for the staff.. For example, each electronic device we wanted to connect to the internet (two tablets, two phones) required a WiFi access code - so we asked for the codes we needed and got them.. we wanted bottles of the house white wine sent up to the room.. again, no problem! And the level of friendliness and high quality of service extended throughout the resort; from the restaurants to the staff handing out towels on the beach, to the lovely ladies walking back and forth along the beach offering to bring us drinks from the bar as we lay sunning ourselves!

Some useful things to note (in our opinion)

** When to go.. we went early June during the start of the rainy season - considered not to be peak season. - and we LOVED it.. it was busy and lively, but not so much that you had to wait or queue for anything (I know the waiting times for the various restaurants have been a problem for some). The weather was still VERY hot (30degC upwards) and occasionally humid. On a couple of days it rained late afternoon, but not for very long.. and this may be due to the fact that we were early into the rainy season.. would definitely go again at this time of year rather than during peak times

** Tipping.. Take small denomination US Dollar bills. I don't know if it's expected, but its always appreciated by the staff (and with the level of service we enjoyed, they deserve it!).. As an aside, and as they come to recognise you, it certainly doesn't hurt to have tipped previously just for that extra bit of service too ;)

** Clothing.. All the hotel info about having a dress policy is correct, though slightly *less* strict as we were told when we checked in. Basically, you need to make a small effort only if you want to eat inside and follow the dress code for the French restaurant "Bordeaux". If you're eating outside, casual dress is fine..

** Electronic Mosquito Repellent".. Each evening they turn these on (they sound roughly like crickets and are meant to deter the bugs). Some people have complained about the disruptive noise, but I think its worth it if they work ;) You learn to tune it out anyway.. FYI, the Blue Mountain and El Patio restaurants are only ones near the loudest noise sources

** Rooms.. The room we had (1209) had a fantastic ocean view, was well appointed, spacious, good showers, a decent jaccuzi bath inside (and 2nd bath/tub on the balcony) and had really quiet aircon (which is a nice touch)

** Water.. They have these ice filled buckets containing bottled water placed along the beach and pool areas. Really good to have these - a nice touch.

** Room Service - Unusually for all inclusive (as I've since read), room service is free and included in the package. Good to know.

** Alcohol. House wine (including sparkling) is free.. its only the more expensive bottles you would have to pay for, but given that the house wine is actually rather drinkable, its worth sticking with that if wine is your thing.

** Preferred Club areas vs "Normal areas". As other reviews have said, you are supposed to keep your preferred club ID handy as you move around the complex, but the staff don't check it - meaning non preferred club members could easily use bits their not supposed to :) In truth though, we found that guests tended to stick to the areas they were supposed to - in other words, the preferred club bit was a bit quieter and had a larger selection of free sun loungers.

** "Mr Whippy" Ice cream machine!! Yes, there is one.. yes it is free.. yes it is unlimited..!! :) Look for it near the games area/CoCo cafe

Food... Lots of different restaurants, although they're not all open every day of the week. An info sheet is delivered to each room nightly, and this tells you which ones are closed. The restaurants also have special nights on occasion, e.g. Lobster night.. etc.

Breakfast:-
The World Cafe consistently served up a fantastic buffet breakfast with constantly manned egg stations, fresh fruit, meats, cheeses, bread, cereals, you name it.. You can also get food sent up to your room, or grab something from the CoCo cafe.

Lunch:-
Again, the world cafe has an excellent lunch buffet including roast of the day, plenty of Jamaican fare, burgers, chips, salads etc. and the main dining area is nicely air conditioned. The Sea View and Oceana restaurants also have a lunchtime menu which was certainly very tasty..
You can also get burgers, churros etc. at the Barefoot Grill if your still in your sun gear.. and of course, the Jerk Chicken cart (as has been mention) is definitely worth a go!!

Dining:-
We managed to try all of the restaurants apart from El Patio. I would say we enjoyed Bordeaux the most, followed by the "normal" bit of the Pan-Asian Himitsu restaurant. Speaking of which, if you want to see the teppenyaki chef do his thing, you have to book in advance. The food was good, as was watching him cook.. but it was all a little rushed.

Speaking of which, because there are no bills to pay and they're not trying to upsell you to drink more with the meal, the service compared to normal restaurants can generally feel a little quick.. if that's the case, just tell your server that you'd like a rest between courses and they're happy to oblige.. if you don't, you may feel like you're being herded around.

Finally, I don't think its been made obvious but for those of you who like Scuba, there is a small dive shop in the complex. The wife had six excellent (and reasonably priced according to her) dives.. she said "Shaka" the dive master was brilliant and would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Wild Orchid Ocean View. Go Preferred Club if you can. Higher floors are better

My girlfriend and I went away for a little summer vacation and we stayed at Secrets Wild Orchid. After dealing with some extremely rude and useless employees at the Jamaican airport we were nervous that this trend may continue once we reached our resort as well. However, we were extremely pleased to see that the trend did not continue. Once we arrived at the resort by shuttle service provided by Secrets, we were greeted with smiles and many friendly welcomes. The front desk staff made sure we were informed of all events going on during the week of our stay as well as ensuring we received all coupons and discounts for the spa that we were promised. The room was amazing and extremely clean, and the view from our balcony was beautiful. House keeping crew and the turndown service crew was also very good. After the first day of cleaning our room we found a note from our cleaning lady saying that she hoped that we have a great time staying with them which we found very nice. The beach was beautiful and clean as well as the pool areas. Poolside waitresses were extremely friendly and it seemed whenever my glass was close to empty they had a new drink being brought to me. All of the restaraunts had great food as well as the buffet dispite the food choices being the same everyday in the buffet. We did not get to sit at the table where they cook for hibachi restaurant but we were close enough where we could still see the show and hear all the singing that was going on from the chefs. The chefs were very entertaining and friendly. We went on a glass bottom boat tour at the resort and the crew that ran that tour were also extremely nice and very knowledgeable about the coral reefs and other sealife there. The one thing that annoyed us a little bit was we took a picture with two men on stilts dressed in jamaican outfits. They had a couple dozen jamaican flags in hand, however they refused to let us keep even one, but had the nerve to ask for a nice tip. This obviously wasnt a huge deal or something to make us not return here, but it woulda been nice to have a flag from jamaica. Last but not least we cannot forget our favorite bartender, Niron. Niron was the bartender in the casino area. He was always happy and smiling, so we spent a good amount of time each night hanging out at the bar with him and chatting, There was a jerk chicken stand that made the best/spiciest jerk chicken that I've ever had. I also played soccer with some of the employees the night before we headed back home. These guys are fast and really good at soccer. Overall we both really enjoyed our stay here and we will definately be back to Secrets in jamaica. Were even considering staying in a Secrets resort in another country next time.

Room Tip: I dont know what the first floor rooms looked like, but the higher floors have a great view especial...
