“Secrets Wild Orchid is wonderful...even during Hurricane Sandy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

This resort is wonderful; Our Junior Suite had gorgeous ocean front view where we could see the sunrise (if awake early enough!) as well as the sunset. The beach, water and nearby mountains gave us a beautiful view/experience. The room was lovely and the property gorgeous. We ate at all the restaurants and had great food and service. The staff sets this resort apart, they are so fun, considerate, professional and caring. I was "stranded" there during Hurricane Sandy and the General Manager, Emilio Huhn, and all staff took great care of us. They made this event as stress-free as possible and accomodated us in every way. Due to our "inconvenience" the resort issued a "complimentary 2 night, 3 day certicate" for free accomodations ~ who could ask for more?

Room Tip: Building 2 has unobstruced, gorgeous views!

This resort was everything we could imagine! My husband and I went for our honeymoon and I'm so glad we chose this one! From the time we checked in to the time we left the staff was so helpful and VERY nice. When we checked in we were greeted by someone taking our bags and asking us what we would like to drink. We were there when hurricane Sandy hit (Wasn't bad at all). They kept us very informed. SOmeone asked if we could get free internet useage and the very next day they had signs up allowing us to use the internet for free. There was people cutting up fresh fruits and a jerk chicken cart all day! I can't write everything down or I'll have a 20 page review but this resort was by far the best ever! highly reccomend!!!

We stayed here for a full week, my review will cover everything we experienced and avoided.

Upon entry we were impressed by the lobby and friendliness of the staff. Check in was quick and smooth with complimentary champaign. They brought the bags up and although tipping is not required it is customary for this service, though we did not feel any pressure to do so. The rooms are pretty nice, with an fairly modern feel. The bed was very comfortable, curtains were full blackout even at high noon for napping. There is a flat screen tv so we brought a computer and hdmi cable to play our own movies. The bathroom is right off the bedroom with a private shower and toilet but otherwise not private tub or changing area, this did not bother us. We did experience a couple maintenance issues, our shower leaked, our cold water disappeared during a shower for five minutes and our safe stopped working. All were corrected within the same day.

The minibar is lacking compared to other resorts we stayed at. There is a minibar with a couple sodas, a couple beers and a couple waters. There is no bottle service like some hotels so extended drinking can't occur in the room. This was a minor inconvenience.

The one complaint about the room is when purchasing wi fi your ipad and android devices will have trouble working. We saw a few people at the business center trying to troubleshoot the connection problem, ourselves included. For $15 a night this should be problem free. Our MacBook connected fine on the window side of the room but lost connection on the other half.

Activities are pretty good, the hotel will supply you with a daily schedule and you can do the things on it or pass for the beach. There is a slot machine room which seemed to pay pretty well, we won $50 and saw other guests win as well. Games like ping pong and pool are there with a nightly movie in the courtyard. Sand volleyball, hat making, pumpkin carving, dancing class is available and lots more. Don't expect to walk around outside the hotel there is nothing to see, just a big construction site where they are building gated condos. Any exploration of Jamaica will require a taxi or excursion purchase.

The food was generally good at all of the restaurants. The exceptions were lunch buffet didn't have as many attractive main entrees but plenty of sides, desserts were equivalent to any cheap buffet even at the restaurants so not very good (one bite and done), room service was lacking in variety but they were fast. Positives were the French and jamaican restaurant stood out as very good. The others were good too but not excellent. The tapanyaki grill was just ok, I preferred the regular menu. Other cool things were the traveling jerk chicken grill that rolled up and down the beach was excellent, also a traveling coconut drink cart that made fresh coconut drinks and pineapple sculptures both were all included.

Staff was very friendly, they sing a lot so expect a lot of bob marley and love songs. There is no pressure to tip although you can.

The feel of the hotel is mainly couples mid 30s and up. A few younger people but generally a relaxed feel, not a lot of partying. At night the beaches are pretty deserted so you can get intimate on the beach pretty easily without worry.

Nightlife consisted of going to the dining area and watching live acts on an outdoor stage. The entertainment was ok but we always got a little bored after about an hour, not the best but adequate. Music at the dance functions was filled with top 40 techno and felt like we were at a suburban wedding, this could be improved.

Overall I would recommend the hotel. I think it is a good hotel for first timers who want to relax a lot on the beach. If I go back to Jamaica I will go to another city so I won't stay there anytime soon but I will consider another secrets hotel.

Room Tip: Most of the hotel is ocean view, is worth the upgrade.

The hotel is wonderful. They have 9 different restaurants all different with different menus.
The beach is wonderful and soft with a few rocks in the sand as you go into the water. Adults only was very nice.
The beach is not as good as Varadero Cuba in terms of swimming but is does get up to 5 feet before you hit a reef.
Overall though this hotel was a winner and we will go back. Everyone was happy to be working at the hotel and everyone had a smile along with singing waiters and fantastic shows that we have not seen on any other island and we have been going to all inclusives since 1976.
The room was great with an in room jacuzzi.
Just don't get taken in by the offer of a never ending vacation. You spend 90 minutes talking to 5 different people. The bottom line is it will cost you a one time fee of between $16,000 to $23,000 with a year fee of $120. If you want this you have to sign that day with no way of checking out the company. The people doing this were not pushy and indeed as soon as we said we were not interested they thanked us for our time.
You may not even be asked about this and certainly no one came up and bothered us on the beach or anywhere except at the front desk concierge.

Room Tip: Try and not stay on the side facing the restaurants, late at night and at 6 in the morning the staff...

I spent 5 days at the gorgeous Secrets Wild Orchid Montego Bay this October. The transfer from the airport took less than 15 minutes and check-in was a breeze. I had a 2nd-floor room with a balcony overlooking the pool and the ocean and the lobby bar a few steps away. The rooms were clean and spacious with every amentity available. I appreciated the quiet, relaxed atmosphere of the property. The beach was so close to the pools and restaurants with everything centralized in one area.
The service really made this trip fantastic. Everyone I encountered was friendly and hospitable and went out of their way to make every day exceptional. A truly great staff makes this Secrets resort stand out from the rest; this was the 4th Secrets property I have vacationed in and it exceeded my every expectation. Kerri Anne at the Barracuda Swing Bar was the single best employee I met. She was courteous, jovial and a true pleasure to see every day. Room service was quick and housekeeping did a great job cleaning up after me.
The staff in the restaurants were attentive and the food was delicious. Every dining experience was great, from the coffee martinis made tableside at breakfast each day to the singing chef at the teppinyaki. I loved the outside tables at each restaurant that allowed the beach breeze to be felt while enjoying a fabulous meal. The cuisine was varied so there truly was something for everyone. I am not usually a fan of the breakfast buffets but this one was large with dozens of hot and cold options and a mimosa to greet us as we waited to be seated each morning.
The pool areas were clean and spacious and the beach was immaculate with comfortable chairs and seating areas. The clear turquoise water and powder soft sandy beach was a tiny bit of heaven. The drink service at both places was lightning fast and refreshing. Tons of umbrellas and rafts available as well as clean towels... and no towel cards!
There was always pool activities during the day, music outdoors at night as well as a DJ in the club area. We watched a game show one evening, karaoke the next and a beach party with live music and cocktails under the stars. The spa was beautiful and relaxing; a must-see, even if only to experience the hydrotherapy circuit. I scheduled my services on our last night to end the trip on a tranquil note.
There was nothing this place didn't offer. I had a wonderful vacation and I hope to return in the future!!

Room Tip: Higher floors offer an unobstructed ocean view.

My husband and I traveled to Jamaica with 5 other couples from Oct 28th-Nov 2. This resort was amazing! It's only about 10 minutes from the airport. The bus driver gave us a history lesson about Montego Bay on our way to the resort. When we arrived check-in was a little confusing but we just sat at the bar and had a Bob Marley drink (NO PROBLEM). It's hard to get six rooms next to each other but they were able to accomplish this with little delay. If you can get the 5th floor do so because the view is awesome! The rooms are beautiful and the beds are soooooo comfortable! The food was great! The pool was beautiful and the grounds were well maintained. The beach is man made and therefore their our lots of rock as you walk in the water. Bring some water shoes to keep from cutting your feet. Also bring snorkel gear so you can snorkel by the large rocks at the beach. All in all, the was a wonderful place to stay and I would highly recommend it. Jamaican people are so happy and they treat you like family:) I almost forgot, If you need anything before you get to Jamaica call the hotel and ask for Simone in the concierge department. She was very helpful.
