“Secrets St. James”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

My husband and I just returned from a 26th Anniversary vacation at the Secrets St. James. It was the best vacation we have ever experienced . The staff were so personable and friendly and made our stay all that more enjoyable. Resort was very clean, all the rooms had ocean views and or pool views. We were on the fifth floor corner and the views were simply breathtaking. I would highly recommend this resort, it is very close to Sangster airport and a Taxi ride is $ 30 for four people (cheaper than the shuttle). We were there from 9/30/2012 to 10/6/2012 it is considered winter season in Jamaica but I think it is the nicest time of year . We didn't get to try all the restaurants but what we did experience was the Himitsu, Oceana, Blue Mountain, and the World Cafe. The World Cafe had a seafood buffet Friday night that was outstanding. Also we were celebrating our anniversary so we indulged in the Romantic beach dinner which was perfect for our anniversary. Before finding this resort i was looking at staying in Negril at the Couples resort .

Room Tip: Higher floors have more better views.

went to secrets st. james 9/28-10/5 to celebrate our 1 yr. wedding anniversary. here are the good, bad and great.

Bad- weather BUT thats not the resorts problem. it was rainy, cloudy 1/2 the vacation but i guess jamaica is like that this time of the year. Memo to self go back to this resort between nov. and april for better weather.

also they would schedule activities and no one from the resort would show up to supervise them. this happened several times. but there was a couple of times that my wife and i were the only ones to show up for an activity. a little aggravating but no problems mon.

also snorkelling got cancelled often the week we were there as there were a lot of jellyfish at the resort. i noticed a dozen of them on one of the 2 snorkelling trips i went on.

okay thats the bad, the great of this resort is in no particular order: the people that work at this resort are some of the nicest and friendliest people that i have ever met. always whistling and singing while they worked. this is one of the main reasons i will go back to this resort. the ppl are soooooo nice here at secrets.

RESORT: is beautiful and BIG !!!! it NEVER seemed crowded even thought there were a lot of ppl there. it was a decent walk to the restaurants from our room but it was nice as you could walk along the beach and you could always find a spot to sit and be alone IF you wanted to be. ask for a higher floor. we were on the 5th floor and had a beautiful view of the ocean and some of the beach. we were in room 3506. they put a happy anniversary banner on our door, they had a nice flower arrangement in our room, and gave us a letter when we checked in for a breakfast in bed whenever we wanted during our trip so it was nice they remembered that it was our anniversary when we booked the trip. another tip, we snuck in over to the st james Preferred Club and hung out at that pool most of the week. it was quieter over there and we met some nice ppl there. the regular st. james pool was much noisier which is cool if you like that scene, they had a swim up pool bar and activities there. i just walked up to the towel hut and talked with the guy and asked for 2 towels and he handed me 3 most days, NO TOWEL CARD yeah mon! only benefit to PREFERRED CLUB is free interenet ( it was nice to go off the GRID for a week ) you get orange towels instead of brown towels ( lol ) and maybe the waitresses came around a little more often to get your drink order but im glad i didnt pay $1,000 extra or so for the preferred club. im sure the room might have been a little nicer BUT we were quite happy with our room. our bed was quite comfortable, rain shower, small jacuzzi tub, small balcony, flat screen tv with lots of channels, movie channells:

RESTAURANTS: Bourdeaux the french restaurant was our favorite rest. the Signature salad is the best salad that we have ever had. made with goat cheese and apricots, mmmmm delicious. we ate there 3 times during our 7 nite stay, thats how much we liked the place. we had mahi mahi, surf and turf, skirt steak and grouper there, all delicious. on fridays they have LOBSTER at the buffet which was very delicious. go to the buffet on friday. we also went to El Patio and had a great mexican dinner ( had the chicken fajitas ) salsa and chips were very good. ONLY bad thing about this restaurant was it took 100 minutes from start to finish to get and eat our food, service at this restaurant only was VERY SLOW ! ate at Portofino the italian restaurant and dinner there was pretty good had chicken parm which didnt have a lot of sauce or cheese on it. didnt eat at the other restaurants. also the buffet has a RIB NITE on tuesdays and they were FANTASTIC and DELICOUS. go to rib nite you wont regret it. the buffet food is average to very good food. have some of the same things every nite and some different things as well. had grilled shrimp skewers which were very good too. they have several omelet stations in the morning. the rum raisin ice cream has lots of rum in it which was very good.

JERK CHICKEN CART : i am making a special comment about this because EVERYONE before me posted how GREAT his chicken was and my opinion of his chicken is OVERATED!!!!!! my wife and i had to try his chicken because of how EVERYONE says how great it is. well we both got plates of chicken and it was mostly bones and skin, mind you the little bit of chicken that we did get was very tender and SPICY but the jerk chicken that i had at the buffet was almost as good and i didnt have to pick thru all these bones and skin to get to the white meat. i was laughing about how ppl said how great his chicken was. oh well, i could cross it off my secrets bucket list and say i had it lol.

DRINKS: are STRONG, never been to a resort where i literally had to let some ice melt sometimes with how strong they make the drinks there. my drinks of choice were frozen Mango margharita, Dirty Banana, Wild Orchid, tried the bob marley and some other drinks. not a lot of beer choices though, red stripe, miller lite and i think heineken.

SHOWS: are pretty good, some sucked but like that at all resorts. loved the Ideal couple game which is like the Newlywed game, those are always a blast and this was no exception. very funny show. they have a talent contest which was like watching american idol, some good some terrible lol. so if you have a talent you could win 5 free nites at their resort. they had a circus show which was okay, some juggling and unicycles and other stuff, a little long got boring after a while.

BANDS: the resort band is good, they had other bands an singers on the resort as well and they were hit or miss. depends on your taste.

SNORKELLING: it was one of the best snorkelling trips i have done and it was right on the resort. saw jellyfish ( bad you dont want to get stung by them ) starfish, sting rays, eels, skinny silver fish ( forgot what they were called ) lots of coral, urchins, sea cucumber ( or as they called them sea dicks lol ) lots of blue fish and other fish. Lamar was our guide and he was great pointing out coral and fish to us and what kind they were.

ExCURSIONS: we didnt do any but heard about the zip line tour which everyone seemed to really like, they seemed expensive to me and with the weather not being great that week we didnt want to book a tour for $200 and have it rain that day so we just stayed at the resort and were quite happy with it. i had already done the dunns river falls tour years back which was pretty cool.

OVERALL: we loved this resort, would go back and will go back HOME again in the future. havent been able to say that about other resorts we have been to in Mexico, Dominican or Barbados so take that for what its worth. if you have any questions feel free to write me. im sure im forgetting things to say about this resort cause we enjoyed so much about the place.
mosquitos were NOT that bad there although we brought bug spray just in case. i would also bring water shoes, the beach is sandy but the water has some rocks in it.

Our favorite memory was sitting outside to eat at the Bourdeaux restaurant on a beautiful evening, not to warm, with a nice breeze blowing, listening to a great band play some jamaican and island music while eating a delicious dinner with a great waiter serving us. it is a nite that i will never forget. it just doesnt get any better then this folks. i wish i could just bottle that nite. it was an unforgettable nite. it was one of the reasons we ate there 3 times that week. it was nice to eat outside and just enjoy the atmosphere of the island.

you will not go wrong and will NOT regret booking secrets st. james. great resort with even greater workers who work very hard to make sure you have a great time. YEAH MON!!!!!
being on Island Time was fantastic we will go back home again real soon and it will be to Secrets st. james. we will just sneak into the Preferred Club section and enjoy their pools lol.

Room Tip: book a higher floor either 4th or 5th floor for great views

Went to Secrets in September and had a phenominal stay. The resort is immaculate and the restaurants had a wide variety of food selections. We were a group of 15 people from the states and so far this hotel is our best all inclusive spot. We have already made reservations to visit this resort again. On our stay we met Garfield the mayor and from the front desk we were greet with lovely smiles from kadeane. We loved the beach and the entertainment was awesome. We will return Secrets St james. Kudos love all.

Just got home from the best vacation ever!! my girlfriend and I had a great time during our entire stay,it is the second time we visit Jamaica, first time we stayed at Iberostar which was a good vacation but nothing in comparison to Secrets St James. The resort is humongous with beautiful grounds very well kept ,the beach is a little small but nice while drinks and food are available all day long.Thumbs up to entertainment we enjoyed it very much"Bon Jovi you were awesome".The restaurants are not in close proximity to the rooms however it was worth walk down to the various restaurants each night, being an Italian and own a restaurant my self in New.York i recommend " Portofino" the food is outstanding and the service is excellent,"Alan and Simon you guys are amazing".The hotel staff is warm and friendly, tipping is free and highly appreciated but nobody asked us for a tip during our entire stay. We'll definitively come back to Jamaica in this beautiful resort .Tony.C.

We have just returned from secrets St James after spending 14 days there. It was excellent, dont take no notice of the negative reviews on here go and see for your selves.
The staff are all so polite and freindly, nothing is too much trouble for them.
The rooms are lovely and clean, our room was cleaned every day, towels changed twice daily, Bedding sheets were changed every couple of days, bathrobes changed once week, but if you asked they would get you fresh ones.
Mini Bar was topped up ever day with choice of your prefered drinks.
Maria was our maid she was lovely.(Big Thank you )
Air con was good, fan was little noisy, but it didnt stop us sleeping in the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in.
The food was excellent and we had good variety, there was lobster, steak, pork and lamb available, some were of certain nights so if you not there for 7 days you might not get them.
The Bordauxe Restraunt was our favourite the service and food was 110%.
The food from room service was also good, the delivery time was good and food always arrived hot.
The staff at the Marlin Bar are Excellent, very freindly and welcoming,Kenneth,Micheal J Fox (Rapper), Aleshyia and Erral. Alleyshia was up and down on beach fetching us drinks, if you didnt want leave the bar they would go and fetch you the Jerk Chicken.
All drinks were Top Shelf named brands.
Erral fetched my Husband Red Bull in as they didnt have it at the bar.
We do think the Entertaint could be improved on as there was lots of Kareoke going on and if you dont like singing, you at a loose end.( The americans loved it)
It is'nt easy to get served at night in the Piano Bar, minimal staff making drinks, then the waiters are like bus's all come at once when you have been served. We avoided going there after few nights.
Beach was Excellent, clean, comfy sun lounges, plenty drinks available, sea was clear warm and full of small fish, star fish, sea urchins, dont go on snorkling trips just go 5foot out on beach and you are there in own little aquarium.
We used the Spa Facilities and had Hot Stone Massage (Highly Recommend same) so chilled out and relaxing.
We did the Bob Marley Trip but went with the private taxi service available from the resort. Enjoyed the day, though it is a distance to travel.
We will definatly be going back and i would highly recommend Secrets to any one who enjoys a relaxing 5 Star Holiday.Book the VIP Mombay Airport lounge it finished our holiday off.

Room Tip: Ask for high rise top floor, we had no problems with mosquito's. The view was also amazing. All...

Secrets St. James Montego Bay was amazing. The resort was beautiful, clean and the staff was outstanding. As soon as we got to the resort Garfield greeted us and had us laughing our entire stay. We learned about the culture from the staff and never met a staff as friendly as they were here. Our favorite resturant was Portofino the italian food was amazing and Lamar was our server and he made our dinner at Portofino a night we will never forget. He had us laughing all night. If you want to go to Himitsu and watch them cook in front of you make sure you make a reservation. I visted the resort 9/26-10/1 and the weather was beautiful. Andrew (Bartender) made sure we never had an empty glass and kept us laughing every night. This is just a few of our great memories that we made a Secrets. I highly recommend this resort.
