“Get what you pay for...”

Buccaneer Beach

My family and i had purchased a package deal flight and hotel on a website. However plans fell through for that trip. We did get a different package to Montego Bay Jamaica though. Not knowing about the hotel or surroundings of it, and was in a hurry to get something arranged at the last minute for spring break we chose the Buccaneer Beach Hotel.Anyhow, we arrive at the Buccaneer Hotel around 9:30 pm. To our surprise before we can even get off the shuttle bus (I do highly recommend THIS SHUTTLE COMPANY) there is a boy around 12 years of age knocking on the window already trying to sell drugs. Well heading in to the hotel, it looked fine, the security there, is a gentleman around 50 or so he shows us to the room... Here is where you get what you pay for i guess. You pay for the cheapest hotel in Montego Bay, you get it. Just say you do not want to stay there, or unless you are just wanting to lay your head somewhere at night and be gone the rest of the time. The people who worked at hotel were pleasant and very nice. I have no problem with that. The hotel itself was not well. It being on the deadend, was not good either, seems that is where ALOT of activity was going on until about 1 or 2 in the morning. We took tours for 2 of the 5 days we were there to get away from the atmosphere around the hotel. Granite the beach that was across the road from the hotel was beautiful, but you have to keep telling people that you do not want to buy things... From food to drugs, they try to sell. We all know that is there way of living so i respected that, but to keep coming up to you after telling them no.. Anyways Jamaica is beautiful, just keep in mind that you have to know how to smile and say no... From the time you step into Jamaica.. My husband and I tell people that ask us about our experience there, and this is exactly what we say. "Or unless you are single and a partier" Jamaica is not for you. Not Montego Bay however, Ochos Bay was nice and full of Tourists, that is the place for a Family Vacation.........
JCAL Tours is HIGHLY recommended... They are Juta as well. They do everything and very reasonable.. Tel...(---) or (---) or (---) ask for Patrick Leach or Sedrick Johnson preferably. These people make you fell very comfortable. are located at the airport

“Not bad for the price”

My husband and I stayed at the buccaneer for our honeymoon March 21 to 25 of 2005. For the price we did not find it that bad. The beds were cleaned everyday. The room was swept oftenand we had fresh towels daily ( no washcloths, we brought our own). The planes really only land and take-off during the day. It is true you might as well not turn on the cold water 'cuz the hot is fine alone but for a true hot water lover like my husband it was fine like that. The bar/resturant had great food but, they were often out of things like cheese and/or french fries. As for the pool I barely even looked at it, the ocean was just right across the street! We found a really good driver to take us to Oche Rios and when we had a problem getting money out of the ATM he drove us all around town looking for a machine that would accept our card. He also showed us the real Jamaica, and all for a reasonable rate. His number is --- or --- and his name is Checky Young. A real plus was that Checky was clean and very courteous! As for the Buccaneer, I would suggest it for the budget minded people and the ones that want to be within walking distance of the Hipstrip but not with all the traffic.

We (myself and 7 friends) stayed at the Buccaneer Beach hotel on July 25, 2004. It was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. The rooms were dirty, bedding was dirty, no light in the bathroom, the air conditioner was new but you had to get the remote from the front desk downstairs, and they took it back with them. They had one little old man that took the luggage up to the third floor. The same old man had to to come to the room to sweep and spray for bugs. The pools had debris in them. There was some awful smell like there was something dead nearby. We didn't sleep at all in the hotel that night....we stayed up all night at the Coral Reef Casino. I found the hotel from hotels.com which gave it a 3 Star....rating...it should have been with a minus sign. I would not recommend it to my worst enemy.

My husband and I stayed here in 1986 for our honeymoon...used to be called Club Paradise. So sorry to see that it is changed for the worse. Wish we could go back..it was a great all inclusive, extremely nice and lots of nice people. We made great friends there.

“A Rip-Off!”

This was a terrible place. We needed a place to spend one night before flying home after having a wonderful week in Ocho Rios at Chrisann's (I recommend Chrisann's highly to anyone who is looking for a quiet, clean, and beautiful, reasonably priced beach resort in Ochi). On some websites the Buccaneer was rated a three-star. I would give it a one-star at best. Our room was dirty and dingy. There was only one electrical outlet, and that was under the TV. The AC was too small and did not cool the room well. Only the bathroom light and one table lamp worked, so the room was very dim at night. The locks on the door did not appear to be very secure, and the lock on the balcony sliding glass door was missing, and replaced by two pieces of wood to jam between the door frame and the sliding door. The bed matresses were saggy and old. I think one of the beds just had two ricketty boxsprings instead of a matress. I chose not to sleep on the linens and slept ontop of the bed spread if that tells you anything about their condition. About 8pm extremely loud music came up from the bar outside that was nonstop until 2am. I complained, but nothing much happened. Eventually I requested another room on the other side of the hotel where it was quieter. The next room was similar to the first, maybe worse in some respects. There were no drawers just a bare table. I had hoped that we might do some sight-seeing in Montego Bay after checking in to the Hotel, but it is very isolated at the end of a dead-end road, and there is not anything within walking distance. The streets around the hotel looked very rough. I didn't feel safe there, and felt kind of trapped until we left for the airport next morning.
