“S.M.B = No Problem, Air Jamaica = Big Problems”

First, if you have the opportunity to fly an airline other then Air Jamaica fly the other airline. We flew Air Jamaica because we received free vouchers last year due to an overbooked flight and it was a huge mistake. Our 7:35 AM flight was cancelled because of mechanical problems. Later we found out this plane had these problems the previous day causing it to be cancelled both days. Everyone at Air Jamaica handled the situation incompetently. Finally, at 11:30 AM they told us a new plane was on the way from Kingston to take us to Jamaica and it would be here at 5:00 PM. When that plane arrived they told us it only had coach and first class passengers were out of luck. We did not arrive at SMB until 10:00 PM. Looking back I wish I just paid for tickets on Continental and threw out the AJ vouchers. Instead we spent the entire day at Newark Airport because Air Jamaica did not fix their plane for two days or make arrangements for a new plane. I learned my lesson the hard way and will NEVER fly Air Jamaica again regardless of how much money they try to give me in vouchers.

As soon as we got to SMB our vacation was outstanding. We have been to Negril and Ochios Rios and it was so much easier and more relaxing to be at your resort in 5 minutes. After going to SMB I will never take the 2-hour voyage to other parts of the island again. Most importantly the short distance to the airport maximizes your time at the resort the day you leave. If you have the 2-hour ride from Negril your last day is wasted traveling.

The airplanes going over the resort are not a reason to stay somewhere else. The resort is at the very end of the runway on the side that planes take off only. We actually liked seeing the planes take off because it made us happy that we were not on one and had more time at the resort. On a busy day maybe 5-10 planes take off, it’s not an issue at all.

The staff at the resort is first-rate. A previous review said they felt pressure to tip, I did not feel this way but these people were so genuinely nice that I did take care of some of them.

Being from the NJ/NY area we know our expectations regarding food are high, that being said the food at SMB is good, not great, but you do have a lot of dining options with the 3 Sandals nearby. We do not expect gourmet food in the Jamaica so we are rarely let down.

I would suggest upgrading to a room with a beach view. There are some rooms that are at the back of the resort that have no view at all.

The gift shop sells Cuban cigars however the ones I bought from them were fake which is very common in the Caribbean. They do have Dominican cigars that are good and Royal Jamaicans, which are good also.

I researched this site for help on picking SRC or SMB; thanks to all the reviews we picked the right one. SRC is quiet and much more laid back with an older crowd, and a small beach. SMB is much more active, has a younger crowd and the resort has an extra large beach.

We will be back to SMB!

My husband and I spent 5 nights, 6days at SMB.After reading reviews we were EXTREMELY reluctant and nervous.
We flew direct from Toronto Canada
to Montego Bay with Air Canada. We had an excellent traveling expereince and the flight was
smooth and ahead of schedule ( both there and back)
The aiport immigration had a long line as there were several flights in at the same time. To accomodate
the number of people more immigartion officers were available. We were through in about 20 minutes. As for the
heat in the airport is was not uncomfortable or overly muggy, it was so nice to be away from snow and freezing
temperatures.
When we got our luggage and passed through into the main airport it was immediately whisked away by the red hat sky caps
This I did not like. We had one pullman suitcase each and were capable of carrying it ourseves. He ran so far up we were chasing
after him to stay with our suitcase. The sky caps try to hussle as quick as possible to make as much as they can.
A little disconcerning not to be able to have your luggage right with you. When we got to the
sandals lounge our bus was all ready to go and we didnt stop in there for drinks.
We were escorted outside to another stand to wait for a bus. We were told just to wait. It was a
little chaotic there. We got ushered onto a bus and we were the only ones on it. For our first
time in Jamaica or with a Sandals we had not so nice thoughts about where the bus would take us etc..
We got there safely. As we arrived the bus driver said ``have a nice vacation, enjoy Jamaica, tip the
driver on your way out``. That was very blunt but we tipped and moved on.

It was about 4 when we arrived at the hotel. We were greated with curtious happy staff. Then were taken to an air conditioned room with reaggae music playing and offered champagne
or red stripe. We filled out a few peices of paper work and then taken right to our room. All took
10-15 minutes.
Once at our room we were very happy. We stayed in room 618 of the palms block.
It is the grande luxe beachfront room category.
We had a very nice bathroom, large closet, good sized safe, very comfortable king sized bed, desk,
lounge chairs, big tv with all
kinds of satelite tv stations (over a 100) and the best part...our balcony with a table and
two chairs over looking the beach and the beautiful turquoise water of the ocean.
The room was air condiotned, except the the bathroom, but keeping the door closed stops any warm air from
travelling in, besides we were chilly at night with it on at any rate. There is also a ceiling fan above
the bed.
We were very satisfied with our room, especially after hearing a whole slue of negative reviews.
As soon as we settled in we went down to orientation at 5. They offer a 10am and 5pm. I would not
recommend attending personall.y we found it more a promo for all the tours, we found it more fun
to explore on our own..but thats just us I guess. The grounds are so beautifully maintained. They are lush and tropical and have a large staff of horticultural experts grooming constantly. Its vibrant colourful and well maintained:)
We loved all the food at all the
restauants. We absolutely loved Tokyo Joes..a must to dine at. The buffet was great and a lot of variety.
We dine out regularly and found the foodcomparable and tasty. The breakfast was awesome. Reservations were made
easily and the hotel was at full capacity. The drinks were awesome and can be as strong or weak as you want. The bartenders were so entertaining.
We loved Duncan,Hector, Grant and Patrick:)You must try Jamaican Smiles,Dirty Banana...mmmmm
We went tubing, out on the aquacycles (Baracuda) katamaranging, sailing, glass bottom boats trips.
We had a truly fantastic time. The water activites are incredible. They were always available and
the staff was helpful and eager to teach and organise your water fun.
As for tipping we did not tip anybody and most of the staff wore pins saying not to tip.
I was also advised by other travellers that those caught accepting tips would be fired and have been.
Every night there was entertainment. Lots of music and dancing, Loved it all. Those Jamaicans have
the most flexible dancing bodies. It was really incredible to watch them. They play local music
all day on the beach and it was so nice. They have very hardworking playmakers who recruit lots of
people to do activites but are not pushy if you just want to chill out.
Overall..I would recommend Sandals Montego Bay. We enjoyed ourselves and being my husbands first trip ever
he felt very relaxed. On a whole our trip was incredible and we would return on a heart beat.

“Sandals, Middle of the Road”

Sandals Montego Bay

We went to Sandals from Jan. 22-29th. We had a good time, but were a little disappointed with our room. We were in the Oleander section which has to be the oldest of the place. We were right outside the emergency exit of the Italian restaurant. In the morning they serve breakfast and of course we could here it all. There was carpet in the rooms and down the hallway, who knows what was stuck in the carpet, sand, bugs, and whatever else.
We had a great time with the playmakers and bartenders. The food was pretty good, Toyko's Joes was by far the best. We did have Lobster tail at the Italian restaurant and that was great also. The grill during the day was nice, we just wished it stayed open all the time, because at 6:00 you were looking for food. By then you have to get ready to go into one of the restaurants and there are just some nights you don't want to do that. The drinks were good, Red Stripe light is actually tolerable. We probably would only go back to this sandals for the workers. For the price we paid, we could get a much better room with a fridge somewhere else. The planes are a little annoying but you get use to it. We did get to meet some great people there from all over, if you want to go to meet, this is the place. Everyone is friendly and outgoing. The piano bar at night is awesome, it starts at 11:00, hope you can stay up till them. Also don't forget to do the mixology with the playmakers, you won't regret it, HA!!!

We stayed at Sandals MoBay from Jan.19-24 with three other couples in our party. It was a great time had by all. We had a Grandlux Oceanfront room and it was great, the view was great as well as the room was very clean and located right in the heart of everything.

We also felt all the resturants were very good. You must eat at Tokyo Joe's at least one night it was the best. Our impression of the Royal Thai, as well as The Royal Carribean resort were not that great. The night we went out to the private island there were wind gusts of 40-60mph and the resturant is not sheltered at all so it was very cold and not a good experience. And the Royal resort seemed very boring to us, the atmosphere was of an older crowd and way to laid back for us. We much more enjoyed the upbeat feel of Sandals MoBay. All the drinks we also thought were awesome and not one complaint. Breakfast was usually at the Bayside and also was very good. My sister and I seemed to really like the nachos at the beach grill. We ate them ALOT!!!

The entertainment staff work very long hours trying to make sure everyone is happy and having fun and I think they did a great job. I asked one of them and he told me they have to work a MINIMUM of 12 hour days 5 days a week. You have to appreciate their efforts and hard work.

We went on a shopping trip and took a day trip to Dunn's River Falls. Both I would do again in a heartbeat. The shopping trip is an eye-opener for sure, all the little huts have the same things but each one are so eager to get you in there store with the hopes you will buy. Don't worry about leaving the property because your driver is there to protect you and he stays there with you at all times. You feel very safe. It was about a 2 hr. drive to Dunn's but well worth it. We had four couples and took our own taxi for $60US per couple for the whole day. The driver talked and pointed out things the whole way and stopped alond the way whereever we wanted.

Overall we had a great time and would return again no question. One example of the service. Since we had an oceanfront room, we had about 6-8 stepping stones to get to the beach, well one was missing so we had to jump from one to the next. I asked someone if we could get one put there and it was done within just a few hours. And that I felt was no small request. The people that did not like this resort must have gone with 5 star US standards in mind. This is a third world country and the living standards are much different than ours. Go with an opened mind and remember your vacation is what you make it to be. Hope this helps, if anyone has questions please don't hesitate to e-mail me mrsvern75@hotmail.com I love talking about our trip. Tammy
