“Quick getaway and unexpected delights.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

We had the opportunity to spend 3 nights at Montego Bay Sandals Feb 20-23. We wanted to know 2 important things. First, was 'close to the airport', too close to the airport?
Second, was it possible to enjoy a getaway of only 3 days or would we feel rushed?
We left a cold Boston airport at 5:30 am (with a foot of snow at home) and were sitting on the beach at noon. True enough you can hear the planes flying and they are good and loud for about ten seconds. If you stand with your back to the ocean you can watch them fly up and out of sight and it is impressive. They fly out about one every hour or so. But they do not fly after ten at night and do not start up again until around 8. In our opinion it was worth being that close getting to Sandals from the airport. It also meant on our last day we could sit in the ocean until about noon and head out for the airport at 12:30. Mobay has a nice departure lounge so after you pack (you have to be out of your room by 11am) you simply take a change of clothes with you and enjoy the resort. Then go to the departure lounge to shower. It was wonderful.
The other great discovery was that we could indeed rest and relax even though it was only for three days. This is because the Sadnals service at Mobay is incredible. From the moment we came staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. For starters we booked the second lowest room catagory. This is located on the first floor of the Palms building and faces the garden and tennis courts. Lovely room, but we never slept in it. Turns out our wonderful TA Ruth Demuth of Tripguy had spoken with Sandals about getting us an upgrade and we ended up 20 steps from the beach! The resort was full to capacity and yet somehow with Ruth's help and Sandals kindess we got a dream room, whose bathroom was larger than our first apartment!
In the room was a little welcome snack (our 4th time at a Sandals) a bottle of champagne, a bottle of wine, and an invitation to have a room service breakfast in honor of my husbands birthday!
Note about if you order breakfast: Apparently it is for two, so for instance if you order an omelet, two come, with homefries. We did not know this so my husband checked off omelet for him then pancakes for me. Then he thought I might like muffins and figured we could share some fruit....... Tromping across the sand came the poor Sandals delivery guy looking like he was carrying a ton of weight. When he ever put down the tray we could not stop laughing. I did invite him to stay for breakfast lolo it was too funny.
Lets see what might a traveler like to know? The beach is very long and although the middle was crowded you could walk down a ways and find a shady spot near the wall or under a palm tree. The water sports people are terrific and we snorkaled, paddle boarded, and kayaked. They even have water skiing! They do have a glass bottom boat but it goes the same place as the snorkelers so you may just want to do that.
One thing you need to know esp. if you are staying for a short visit, make sure you make reservations for dinner as soon as you get there since 3 of the nighttime restaurants require them! The food over all was terrific and you could get food every minute of the day so be prepared to gain ten pouinds!
The playmakers are fun and try to encourage everyone to get involved. But it is easy enough to move away from the busy area if you goal is just to chill. I could not get over that even with all the people vacationing and working there we were always able to find a quiet spot to talk or just sit and relax.
Orando, one of the play makers was a very fun and talented guy. He and the other playmakers put on a talent show and he was just stunning. Then the next morning, bright and early he was up sweeping the chess board! All of the Sandals workers put in long hours but you would never know it from their professionalism. They really make the vacation!
We will definitely return to this Sandals and are eager to check out other properties as well. You just cannot beat the free week Sandals offers to guests who stay so many days. No other resort offers such a wonderful deal! Each of the 3 locations we have stayed at (plus 2 others we day visited) are beautiful and everywhere we went we saw staff going the extra mile for guests.
If you are thining of staying in Montego Bay, give Sandals a try you will not be disappointed. PM me if you have psecific questions.

Room Tip: a walk out is worth the extra money!

My husband and I just got back from a 6 night stay at Sandals MoBay. We were a bit skeptical after reading the reviews. Let me say that some people must want to complain about everything. We travel somewhere warm every year, usually 4-5 star all inclusives, this was our first experience with Sandals. We loved it! Arriving from traveling all day from Iowa, we were met with cool moist lemon scented wash cloths and a drink. Our room in the Palms building was ready for us, with a fantastic view! The hotel is not brand new, but is very clean and the grounds are meticulously groomed. Every staff person was friendly. The Cricketeer staff (love you Shanay Nay) knew us and our favorite drink by the second day. The food at every resturant was delicously prepared with a great presentation. We traveled with relatives who sometimes requested 2 entrees--not a problem! If the drink served was too weak, more rum was quickly added--not a problem. It's a vacation, relax and enjoy. Only complaint--WiFi should be free.

Wow.. Where to start? So many things to say.. Our 4th visit to Sandals MoBay February 12th-23rd, was the best ever. For many reasons, but mostly because it proved to be a reminder of what we already knew..it is coming home to our family and friends.
Every year we travel there with the same group of people.. About 8-10 couples. And have always had a wonderful time. My in-laws have been going to Sandals since 1990 and convinced us to go, and I am so glad they did.
Earlier this year my husband was in an accident while working as a Paramedic, on duty, he was injured badly, on Jan. 10th, and is currently using a walker and a wheelchair, so, we weren't even sure of we were going to make the trip, but we decided with all of the help, we would give it a shot.
From the moment we arrived, Alford and our beloved, Dawn Smith, had everything in order.. Ground floor walkout room, and a wheelchair...and a rum punch. ; )
The food was wonderful as always, drinks were plentiful, even with 2 days of rain, it didn't matter. Everyone there has a genuine smile and a hug to share.
Thank you Saneika, and Duncan for our Silver Sandals, had forgotten we were getting those! And for triple points on our booking next year.
Gary, Dandre, and Anjay.. Are the BEST bartenders..
Winston, Mark, Shannay-Nay, Richard, are my first thoughts of waiters and waitresses.. But so many to mention, love them all, they work SO Hard. Not to mention Nasha, she is a butler.. But so much more. Josef Zellner (Manager) is doing a wonderful job at this place..
I am rambling on.. But here's the bottom line... Sandals MoBay is the flagship resort.. It is older, it needs some updating maybe... Sure, I guess it does... Are there issues sometimes? Yes, there probably are...BUT we don't go there every year looking for problems .. We go because the Staff is the BEST EVER. Its clean, its beautiful....They work 24 hours a day to make everyone happy, they remember your face, and your name, and show love and respect...it goes without saying that we will always come home to MoBay...try it, I promise if you do you will love it.

I have never met such caring people before. The first 4 days of our dream vacation my wife as sick, Mr. Jose Zeller, and his staff went out of their way to come by and check on her, to see if there was anything they could do or getto make her more comfortable. We have traveled all over and never met such caring people before. Sandals you are forever number one!!!!

Thank you David and Mary Quass

I am happy to report that after some apprehension upon reading several of the negative reviews on TripAdvisor, our experience at Sandals Montego Bay thoroughly lived up to our (high) expectations. My fiancee and I booked seven nights in the Bay Roc Villas for our destination wedding, arriving on 1/11/13.

After clearing customs at Sanger International (over an hour, unfortunately) and a quick Red Stripe in the Sandals reception area at the airport, we made the five minute trip to the resort by bus and were led to the waiting area to meet our butler, who arrived after about a 20 minute wait and escorted us to our room. Our suite (1703) was spotlessly clean, well appointed and opened up to a patio right above the seawall (not much beach in the far end of the resort).

We were starving and headed over to the Cricketeers Pub for lunch. Unfortunately, we experienced the worst service of our trip here, with painfully slow food delivery (made worse beacuse we were *starving* from our trip, no doubt) and only average quality food. Fortunately, things got better quickly from that point on. With the first couple of days devoted to wedding preparation, things were a bit of a blur, but overall we were impressed with the high level of service throughout the resort. Everyone, and I mean everyone--from maids to waiters, to butlers to gardeners--greets you with a smile and a warm hello. You get the overwhelming feeling that yes--you are a valued guest here. I have stayed in precious few places where it seems as if every employee is so well-trained in making you feel that way,

First night dinner at Bayside was very good, and our table service from Winston was above average. Our wedding coordinator (Venecia) was wonderful and attended to all the details of our wedding with a smile and great patience. The staff at the Red Lane Spa worked with my fiancee on hair and nails and she was very pleased with the service.

With threatening weather on the morning of our wedding day, we feared the worst, but 30 minutes before our beach ceremony the skies cleared and we had a beautiful ceremony. We followed our wedding with a Private Candlelight Dinner (a $170 add-on), originally planned for one of the over-water gazebos, but we moved it to our patio because of the very windy conditions. Our personal waiter Junior was wonderful, and cheerful--despite running back and forth with our plates in the wind and rain!

Over the course of the week, we dined at Tokyo Joe's, great food, but more Mongolian-style than Tokyo. Homar was our chef and was both extremely friendly and well-skilled. Dinner at Stewfish was fantastic, with our table right at the edge of the beach and wonderful food. The Oleander Room was also excellent. We ate at Cucina Romana, but had a special Honeymoon dinner menu there, which was a wonderful meal, but we can't comment on the regular menu there as we never tried it. Mariners' on the beach has great food, decent jerk chicken and the drinks are excellent throughout the resort. My wife is now hooked on Sandals' Rum Runners. The Monday night beach party was a blast, too.

We never got involved with the playmakers and their planned activities, we were on our honeymoon and stayed mostly to ourselves, enjoying the beach and the sun. Our butlers always assured we had a preferred location reserved on the beach every day. And on that note, I must add that the Sandals butlers definitely take your vacation to the next level. Always available (until 8PM) via cell phone, they go the extra mile and provide a level of personalized service that makes it well worth the additional expense. Our butlers were Renay and Tarrick, and we were delighted with the fantastic service they provided. In addition reserving our beach spots, they made our reservations for dinner each night, met us at each restaurant location and seated us. When we returned to our rooms they provided nightly towel animals on our bed, drawn hot baths waiting for us, flower petals, candles and assorted treats. Every day, something new and interesting!

The naysayers will complain about the small pools and the airplane noise. Yes, the pools are small, but from our experience they were never overly crowded. The beach is the attraction here. Yes, the resort lies only mere yards from the airport property, and planes take off regularly--but after the first day you hardly notice it, it's over quickly and only rarely are there evening take-offs. It never detracted from the experience for us at all.

We would recommend Sandals MoBay without hesitation, and will return again!

Room Tip: The rooms in the Bay Roc Villas are absolutely fantastic. We were in 1703.

Awesome Holiday. Never had a bad meal all week ! Gourmet dining even in the buffet. Staff went above and beyond across the board. Only downside was the first day or so getting used to flights leaving during day with proximity to airport. Playmakers ( Hartland,Kendria,Shanna) as well as servers ( Derol, Robert ) made it trip to remember !

Room Tip: Only were in rooms in one section with two other couples

We stayed at 'Sandals Montego Bay' between Feb. 11th - 21st, 2013 and couldn't have had a better vacation!! From the time we arrived at Sangster Airport, we were able to walk right up to the Immigration counter without a lineup! In the Customs line after having gotten our luggage, there were 7 people head of us and we all were swiftly checked and moved through. The Jamaican efficience was so wonderful to see, and was very much appreciated after an eventful travel day. Thank you Jamaica for your attentiveness and efficiency!!

We had our driver Clive waiting for us, who has been our friend for 22 years and he was so nice to see with his warm personality and even warmer hugs. From landing to exiting the airport it took us 28 minutes, and was the best start to our Sandals Jamaican vacation ever!

Our check-in at Sandals MoBay went exceptionally well also and took only a matter of minutes after being warmly met by Alford, who is another warm & wonderful friend, I had checked-in online, and I'm hoping it contributed to help in the smooth registration.
too,
Our friendly and energetic long time friend Dudley looked after our luggage and walked with us to our room. Our vacation would never be the same if we hadn't be met and looked after by Alford & Dudley. Everday (except their 1 day off) we saw them we were even warmer than the previous day, and we always shared a chuckle. They are wonderful!!

The food was so fabulous I'm surprised the clothes ere able to fit after 10 days! We had eaten at all of the restaurants on the resort with the exception of the 'Stew Fish.' The service of the wait staff was wonderful too, our friends Robert, Richard, Winston, Courtney,Mark and many others was like being 'Home' with'Family!'

The main & beach bars were great and the service, smiles and warm hugs from Terry-Ann, Latisha, & Gary made our 'Jamaican Smile' drinks make us smile even wider! I don't think it's possible for them to improve as they are the Best!!

Some other friends that need to be mentioned are Karma from 'The Gift Shop' and Nasha a Butler. We have never had butler service, but that doesn't stop Nasha from always greeting you a hug, smile and bubbly personality.

Our leaving Jamaica went as smoothly as our arrival, and having had the Montego Bay VIP Lounge experience, we will always add this to our departure. It was quiet, relaxing and service continued the 'Sandals' experience.

This year, our 22nd visit to Sandals Montego Bay, was the absolute best, most efficient, and pleasant vacation from landing in beautiful Jamaica, to the take off for home. Thank you "Sandals Montego Bay," Sangster International Airport, and all of our wonderful 'Jamaican Friends & Family' who live all year in our hearts. We Love You & Thank You So Much!!!
