“Our best holiday yet.....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

I stayed here from 1st August to 8th and consider myself very lucky to have done so. I really cannot fault anything, it was totally amazing in every way from beginning to end. The staff were extremely helpful and very pleasant, especially Robert the waiter, and Petrula a waitress. There were so many restaurants to choose from, we dined somewhere different every night, and even went over to the Royal Caribbean on the minibus to sample the French restaurant. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious, and the choice was extensive. Our room was very spacious and spotless, and we had the most fantastic ocean view. The beach was beautiful, and not at all crowded, with lots and lots of secluded places to sit if wanted. We were very impressed with the activities on offer, and we did something different everyday, including diving, snorkelling, trips to the Dunns river, and swimming with dolphins, as well as the most fantastic quad biking experience, all organised by the hotel. My partner and I had the most memorable and romantic, exciting and yet relaxing holiday ever, and would really like to visit again.

Room Tip: Higher floors have the best view.

I spent so much time reading reviews on this website before the vacation that I feel it is only proper to leave a little review myself. This was our 2nd Sandals experience, the first being the one in Nassau. We had an absolutely amazing time. We stayed in a regular concierge room, and took advantage of the concierge service to get restaurant reservations even when some were totally booked. The food was fantastic - I'd suggest Tokyo Joes as well as the Lobster bouillabaisse from Stewfish.

The employees there were so nice as well. They had staff members who would walk along the beach and pool asking how we were and if they could bring us anything more to drink. They came often enough that we rarely had to go to the bar ourselves, but not so often as to disrupt us.

The beach was nice and we took full advantage of all the watersports, which were a lot of fun, especially tubing and snorkeling.

The planes were a little annoying, but you do get used to them.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I wouldn't vacation anywhere but Sandals. Antigua is next on our list!

Room Tip: Definitely get Concierge Service

This was our first time to Sandals MoBay, but our 5th trip to Sandals. We booked this kinda last minute, because we got an amazing deal on this 4 night stay, too good to pass up!

Getting there was extremely smooth. It was a Wednesday late morning so the airport was not busy. We were in the van in under 30 minutes from the time we landed! We got to the resort and our room was ready (kinda surprising), so we were in our bathing suits, walking the beach with a pina colada in hand within an hour of our plane landing, perfect! Love that this resort is so close to the airport, especially for a short stay.

Room: We booked the 2nd to lowest level room and were upgraded to a concierge level room on the 3rd floor of the Palms building, this building is right near the main beach, great location, and the view was amazing. In my opinion, concierge level doesn’t mean much at this resort, except for the nice room location. All the rooms are very basic (which is fine for us), but concierge doesn’t include room service at this resort (only butler level gets that), so really the only “perk” is an in room bar, which isn’t even that great. And you are never far from one of the resort bars to grab a drink and take back to the room. In the future at this resort, we will definitely only book the 2nd to lowest room to save some $$. (Lowest level room is above the main resort area and doesn't have a patio or balcony)

Resort: We really liked the layout of this resort. We spent most of our days at the main beach, we loved this because it was literally steps from the pizzeria/grill/beach bar. The beach itself is wonderful, great area for swimming and lots of lounge chairs. The pools here are pretty small and not many people in them usually. We did hang out at the piano bar pool a little, this is the only swim up bar and it was never very crowded/social like other swim up bars at Sandals, but the resort itself was only at about 60% occupancy they said. The property is very lush, definitely shows that this is an older resort, but I liked this feel, definitely different from the glamorous/grande feel of some of the other resorts we’ve been to. The main part of the resort with the restaurants, bars, etc is all in pretty close proximity. The property is pretty spread out because of all the butler villas, there’s definitely some good spots for seclusion if that is what you’re looking for. We used the fitness center a few times, it is very nice and all the equipment is new and plenty of cardio machines.

Food: Overall it was great!

Breakfast was the usual buffet at Bayside, nothing special, but it was fine.

Lunch and snacks every day were at Dino’s pizza/Mariner’s grill. This place is fantastic! Loved that it was just steps from the beach, you can just order the food, it doesn’t take long, then either take it back to your lounge chair or sit in one of the comfy couches, or sit at a table. We never even went to look at the lunch buffet at Bayside, never felt like putting on clothes/shoes to go eat lunch when everything we wanted was right at the beach! Dino’s had a lot of really good and different pizza options, not just the standard cheese or pepperoni. Mariner’s grill had things like jerk chicken or pork, hamburgers, quesadillas, regular and sweet potato, etc, etc. Also had a nacho bar set up, which was good for snacks. Not just chips and cheese but also guacamole, salsa, sour cream, and other condiments. You could grab single pizza slices if you didn’t want a whole one, and Jamaican patties. So good!

Dinners were all very good except for Stewfish which was our only disappointing meal the whole trip. Appetizers were decent but the entrees (stewed red snapper and steak) were pretty bad. Oleander room was very good. We also did Tokyo Joe’s, it was very good, but LOTS of food! And the setting here is very nice. Oh we also did some saki bombs after dinner, YIKES! For the last night we did Cucina Romana, once again very good. We got a couple late night snacks from the Cricketer’s which were good. The only small issue with the restaurants was the fact they are all open air (except Oleander) and it was SO hot out at night. We normally prefer to sit outside for dinner when in Jamaica, it is usually warm but comfortable. This time was very different, must be the time of year, but it was very uncomfortable and made it less enjoyable to eat hot/rich food when you’re already sweating! Lol. This wasn’t anything terrible but if/when we go back here we’ll probably not go in August.

Entertainment: Playmakers here were great, they were funny and very entertaining. Nighttime entertainment/shows are in an open-air dome that is right near all the restaurants/main bar, I liked the setup but once again because of the heat it was very difficult to sit and watch. We kept making trips into the A/C at Cricketer’s to cool down. I’m sad to say we never made it to the piano bar! We didn’t stay up that late most of the time, the 1 night we did we were at Cricketer’s, and wow things really turn into a party around 11 pm there! It was lots of fun. Andrew at this bar is probably the best/hardest working Sandals bartender we’ve seen! He never stopped pouring drinks, you didn’t even have to ask for one, he was always looking around at who needed another drink and would refill it for you without you even knowing.

The staff, especially the bartenders, were all wonderful here.

We participated in some of the water sports, went tubing and water skiing a couple times. Also did paddle boarding for the first time, it was very fun! It was super windy during the daytime hours, so we had to do it in the morning or afternoon.

Weather was fantastic, we really lucked out, only saw a couple hours of clouds and a few minutes of sprinkles the whole time!

We didn't leave the property once, since it was such a short stay. If we had stayed longer, we would have definitely gone to SRC for the day or for dinner (since we loved our time here 2 years ago), and the catamaran cruise on the Red Dread looked like a lot of fun! Next time for sure....

Yes the planes are very loud, wasn’t a problem at all, except if you want to take an afternoon nap!
Overall we just loved our time here. It was too short, of course, but this was a last minute, not planned trip, so it was a treat. We will definitely be returning to this resort. Feel free to ask me any questions!

Let me start by saying that most of the employees are just great and work very hard!
This was my 8th trip to sandals 7 at mobay and it will be my last,as a sandals select member for 9 yrs Ive never been treated so poorly and ignored as i was on this trip.
When we arrived we were taken to our room(upgraded) but they took all liquier and beer out of the room,i never drink in the room but after spending at least 30,000 at the resort did they have to be so cheap?
We were never given a welcome home package or an invitation to the select dinner,if i didnt ask another guest i would have never known about it.
When i went and spoke to sean at the soon come back desk on tues morning he said it would be taken care of and no worries you will have a surprise when i get back to the room, well the surprise was departure instructions, nothing was ever put in my door except a card for a complimentary photo shoot that you had to pay for! and a coupon for 10%off at the gift shop when you buy 100$ worth of stuff that is way over priced and made everywere but jamaica!
At the select dinner the waiter was so nasty and mean to me that i had to walk away from dinner several times instead of making a scene, the only entree was fish and i dont eat fish and when the waiter came to take my order he said "you get fish" when i said can i have something else i dont eat fish he got so angry and said "what you want" i replyed what do you have and he said just chicken thats it! ive never been so insulted by his bad attitude and i just wanted to leave the dinner and i did! after spending so much money with this company and especially for being a select member im very insulted by the way i was treated.
The day we were leaving i saw sean sitting at the soon come back desk and stopped to ask him what happened he acted like i did something wrong and told me it was no use sending me an invitation to the dinner beings i was leaving the next day and said they(dont know who they are) left the welcome home gift bag in the wrong room so they werent giving out another one, when i told him i never received anything he treated me like i was lying after admitting that they left it somewere.
Another select member had almost the same thing happened but after they complained for 3 days they were left all kinds of gifts, apology letters ,free massages, champage, and cold beer in the room,I feel i should not have to beg or complain for days to receive the perks of being a select member and a loyal customer of sandals for so many years.
At the dinner the manager kept saying about how well my money was being spent with improvements at the resort, who the hell needs a fire pit when its 100 degrees out they should have spent the money on learning customer service.
I will never return to sandals even though we are close to earning my free week its just not worth the extra money we spend to come there out of all the places in jamaica i will rent a guest house next time for 1000 for the week at least im not paying an extra 4 grand to be treated bad.
I always tell people how great sandals is, now i will tell them how great it used to be.
Even the house keeping has went down hill for two days we had to hunt her down and try and get 2 wash clothes a few times she just didnt leave coffee, cream, sugar we had to go down to the kitchen and ask for some to restock our room because the housekeeper didnt.
The highlight of the whole vacation was davion the bartender and robert the waiter at the bayside they always treated us with respect and just the nicest, the staff works very hard for no money its the management who needs to work on the way they talk and treat people who if it wasnt for people like me they would not have a job.

From the moment we arrived in Jamaica(Montego Bay). My husband and I were treated like american royalty. The staff was great. We had two Butlers Asha & Jason. They made our honeymoon personal and romantic with just the right touch. Playermaker Hartlon kept us busy on our toes throughout the whole week. While dining at Tokoyo Joes we received excellent dining service from a young woman name Petrula. All of the staff from Sandals was terrific. We can't wait to go back for another trip.

This was our first stay at any resort and we were happy. We did the butler service but that was not what we were hoping it might be. We didn't even see or hear from our butler for nearly one whole day. Not worth the extra money in our mind. Next time we will do a concierge room in the Palms building. The beach food was a highlight for us and we really liked the Cricketers pub. We aren't into the fancy places. It just isn't our thing but it just wasn't all that good. Overall the place was nice and clean and we loved the beach. The diving was AWESOME!!! And I can't wait to go again and I will plan on diving everyday. My wife enjoyed her beach time and I was always back before noon. It was great. The oft mentioned planes were not a bother at all. I can't see why that would bother anyone actually. Loved the drinks too. My wife had about 16 Jamaican Smiles over a two day period and she may have overdosed on potassium. The bottom line is we are going back and we can't wait to get there again.
