“Unforgettable Honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at the Royal Caribbean. We stayed in the Beachfront Conceirge Honeymoon suit. We loved our view and the fact that our door opened right up to the beach. Our room was extremely clean. We didn't have to make any reservations on our own as the Conceirge did that for us. The food was amazing, the service was amazing and the staff was helpful, pleasant and friendly. We had a couples massage outside in a hut right off the beach which was truly the most relaxing massage ever. We visited Sandals Mobay and Sandals Carlyle. Mobay was very busy and although a bigger resort, very crowded. We liked the private atmosphere of the Royal Caribbean since it was our honeymoon. After visiting Mobay, we decided to visit the Carlyle. That flare was not for us. We felt as though we were being punked. The arrival to the resort was a very shocking as the entrance is on a very small crowded narrow street full of locals which hassle you as soon as you arrive. We were very sad to have wasted an hour there as there was nothing to do. It was small, dark and no private beaches., The website pictures are not accurate when it comes to the Carlyle. It's the "Uncle Eddie" of the Sandals resorts. If you stay at Mobay or Royal Caribbean, DO NOT travel to the Carlyle. You will be disappointed that you wasted an hour of your vacation there. Needless to say, we were extrememy happy to return to the Royal Caribbean. We loved it there and had the best honeymoon every. The beaches, the pools, the restaurants, the staff and the over experience at the Royal Caribbean was perfect. I highly recommend staying at the Royal Caribbean. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: The honeymoon beach front Conceirge room is highly recommended. I loved having breakfast on my porc...

Went to this resort in Nov 2012! It was such a beautiful resort! It was smaller than I'm used to and I loved that. We got to personally know a lot of the staff. The service was excellent. Room quality for a Royal Grand Luxe was lower than we expected, but we didn't mind too much. It was clean and we spent no time there as we were travelling with 5 other couples. If you are going alone as a couple, definitely spring for the upgrade. Also, there are no alcoholic drinks in the rooms which I thought was odd, but you could tip the housekeeping staff to get some put in your fridge.

Room Tip: Windsor building2nd floor was great! one side of our room was on the beach and the other was at the...

We stayed at the Sandals Royal Caribbean from Dec. 26 - Jan. 1. The weather was excellent, the food was good and there were lots of options for enjoying the beaches. As for the food, there were vegan/vegetarian meal options (as advertized), but not so many deserts (excepting fruit, which was always available, so I really can't complain). The breakfast and lunch buffets were a good bet (staff sometimes forgot to put out silverware, but they did eventually put it out when asked) and the coffee/tea bar made for a nice mid-morning and/or afternoon break. The resort offered tons of water sports (kayak, windsurfing, paddle boats, snorkeling, scuba, etc.) and all they asked was that you sign up to check out the equipment or to go on trips.

The best part of Royal Caribbean, however, was the island! Whether or not you are into the "clothing optional" section (I wasn't so daring, but respected those who were), the beach area around it is great for snorkeling. Also, the island pool (with swim up bar & hot tub) was a blast! The bartenders there were creative and friendly (and tried really hard to remember your name and favorite drink). Even though the resort was reportedly full, it never felt crowded. The fire pits made for a nice area to sit, drink and talk at night.

My only (valid) concern was that the staff didn't seem as "animal friendly" as I would have hoped. For what we paid, I'm pretty sure there was a sufficient margin of profit to care for the couple kitties we saw (maybe implement a trap-neuter-return program) and ensure safety of the other critters. I really enjoyed having these guys around (so did other guests), but was saddened to know that nobody at the resort even bothered to name the little tabby (seen on the main part of the resort) or note that she'd just had kittens. The staff wasn't overtly mean to her, but they didn't much seem to care about her either (excepting the one nasty woman working the Sandals reservation desk who announced that she didn't like cats, but that was really the only mean spirited Sandals employee I encountered, everyone else seemed nice enough).

All in all (& excepting the one cat-hating employee), it was a beautiful place and made for some truly great memories! :)

Room Tip: If you prefer a quite stay, avoid rooms near the main beach. However, it wasn't that tough to f...

We stayed at the Royal Caribbean from Dec 16- Dec 22 2012 and we could not be more pleased with our stay! The airport Sandals staff were helpful, and we enjoyed the Sandals lounge while waiting for our bus to leave. The resort is extremely close to the airport, which is great when wanting to start off the vacation as soon as possible. Check-in was very fast, and we were immediately upgraded! Our room was absolutely beautiful, and spacious, and we had a great view of the beach and pool. Our first meal was at the grill, which is delicious, I highly recommend Jerk Chicken, it is a MUST! Most importantly the staff at the Royal Caribbean is warm, and friendly, and tons of fun! There is always something to do, be it night, or day! The restaurants that we ate at were all incredible, delicious food and impeccable service! Activities are well organized and the 'playmakers' (entertainment staff) are so much fun!! This resort is worth every cent, I highly recommend this for an amazing vacation for two, a honeymoon, or just because! You simply cannot go wrong!!!

Room Tip: Rooms farther from the main pool and the main beach are great because there is less noise from dayti...

This is a beautiful resort with GREAT service. It was super clean and the restaurants were delicious. BUT, it did have a few downsides. Here's a list of the pros and cons.

Pros:
-Excellent Service. The staff was very, very friendly and helpful (more so than in Sandals Negril or Montego Bay)
-Clean. The room, resort and beach was kept spotless.
-Environment. The entertainment, ambiance and private island were all amazing.

Cons:
-AIRPLANES. You can hear 15-20 airplanes per day pass overhead from nearby Sangster. This can be jarring.
-The beach was short and felt cramped (especially compared to Sandals Negril)
-The Wind. The 'December Breeze" in Montego bay was pretty stiff while we were there. Not sure if its always this bad, but when we asked no one seemed to think it was out of the ordinary.

Summary: Sandals Royal Caribbean was great, and I'd recommend it for anyone who wants to stay within 10 minutes of the airport. But, if I were going back to Jamaica, I'd stay at Sandals Negril. The beach there was a lot better because it was longer and more open. Plus, in December, the wind wasn't a factor.

This was the 2nd Sandals resort we visited in JA. This is not a comparison of other sandals resorts. We stayed Sept 3rd - 10th 2012.

Rooms: (Royal Grande Luxe with semi private pool view/ lower level)
- Clean
- Big washroom, big bed (had no complains on comfort)
- We did have ants but this was because we left drinks in the room.
- It was quiet in our room no outside noise even though we were close to the road

Resort:
- Never any towels? We didn't go during a busy season, however they ran out of towels by lunch time everyday.
- Beach had little broken shells everywhere that easily cut your feet, I would recommended to wear water shoes on the beach if you play beach volleyball!
- The private island was really nice! not much space so get there early. The Beach had no broken shells, also no one was ever on the 'nude' side of the island.
- Food and Swim up bar also available on the island
- Boat to island came very often, usually if you stood on the dock they would come over to get you.
- Lots of activities daily, this was advertised fairly well. (Pool Volleyball/Beach Volleyball/Games/Bingo etc)
- The resort is small so everything is very close to get to.
- Access to Montego Bay and Carlyle Inn (via shuttle every 45 minutes)
- The airplanes were noticeable but not as bad as Montego Bay (Very loud at MB)
- Good nightly entertainment!

Staff:
- Despite each and everyones own experience we overall didn't find any issues with rudeness sandals always try to have friendly staff
- We didn't get bothered by the 'sandals' on site photographers
- Lots of young staff that seem to be very "clique-ish", we often times found them flirting with each other or talking about guests to one another or having inappropriate conversations with one another.
- Staff were helpful regarding local stuff, and getting us things not listed on menus (Example: Buying us ginger beer off the resort and ting!)
- management made an effort to please us with requests.

Food: (Note everyone has different tastes and expectations)
- Lack of local foods (We had to make a special request which did come through!)
- Good selection of foods and restaurants (Considering access to all 3 resorts)
- Drinks are nothing to complain about they had recognizable brands available (Guinness, No Appleton!, The rum was El Dorado brand, crown royal, red label, Smirnoff, Jack Daniels etc)

Overall its a nice resort, quick access to and from the airport. Nice staff, clean rooms, the grounds are maintained and well kept. The beach isn't that impressive but the water is clean (Not a lot of seaweed/rocks going into the water). We wouldn't personally return to this sandals resort. For the price we paid we would rather try another resort like secrets, couples or another sandals.

As a side note for our own experience which may not happen to you or anyone else.

- Staff making negative statements about homosexuals in front of guests in patois (native language) . They assumed no one understood them however we did and did not appreciate it.
- Staff mocking guests in a negative way (Again in patois). Makes us wonder what they said about us.
- This sandals resort just didn't live up to the sandals name, we were disappointed. It seems a little less structured and organized.

The resort was beautiful, clean, and staff very professional. Oreal, an employee in the Watersports area was wonderful, skilled on the Hobiecat, and very personable. We were there for our daughter's wedding and the wedding co-ordinator was very helpful. Thank you all.

Room Tip: Rooms in the 4000 area are private with their own pool and beach but not far from all the other acti...
