“Wedding Party”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 days ago NEW

We recently stayed at Coyaba for my best friend's destination wedding. When she told us 'resort' and 'all-inclusive,' we were expecting your average resort experience: generic rooms, limited options, mediocre buffet food, crowded pools and beaches. Could not have been more wrong!!

From the moment we walked through the front door we were greeted with kindness, offered delicious drinks, escorted to our rooms (luggage carried for us), and shown all the room amenities. Our room had 20 foot vaulted wooden ceilings, beautiful!! And a great view of the pier and ocean!! Ms. Hyacinth took care of our room while we were there, and she was a morning ray of sunshine! It was very obvious she takes great pride in her work, as do the other staff members. Kamisha, who was often at the front desk, was so friendly! I felt like I was catching up with a long lost friend every time we talked. Francois and Gabi, along with the staff, did everything asked of them and more to make my friend's wedding AMAZING!! Including a special request from the maid of honor :o) Make sure to have Ms. Kay or Mr. Gladstone make you an 'adult' mango smoothie at the Polo Bar. But watch out for Gladstone's rum punch, it's not for the faint of heart!!

I would highly recommend one of the all-inclusive packages. The food was delicious, whether it was part of the wedding meals or part of the resort, but would add up quickly since a little pricey. Room service was very efficient. The small size of the resort was my favorite part about it. Staff quickly learned your name, and you weren't waiting in line for anything. Beach was small, but very clean, and once again never crowded! Many of the people staying at Coyaba while we were there were on month long 'holidays' and said they return to Coyaba almost yearly. Even the new couple, who had planned their honeymoon at another Jamaican resort, left after 1 day at the other hotel and went right back to Coyaba. Truly a great place to stay!!

Room Tip: If you don't mind taking the stairs, ask for the third floor in one of the new buildings. Amazi...

We were a little skeptical reading the reviews initially but I'm so glad we went ahead & booked this place. There were 14 of us & we stayed between 6-7 days. It was GREAT. Once we arrived at Coyaba we were greeted by Richard & he was funny & so pleasant. While checking in Kamisha took great care of us, always smiling.
The grounds are absolutely beautiful. We had 3 rooms & the villa. The rooms were very nice & the beds were the most comfortable ever!!!! The only complaint I have about the rooms, is that only some have a fridge & none have a microwave. The villa had everything except for a washer & dryer.
The food was good just very expensive. Being that we had access to the villa, we made a few trips to the local supermarket. Tacia at the front desk was so sweet & nice. She chose Howard, the taxi driver to take us around. He was so informative & helpful.
Lastly, the gift shop is really nice. A lot of souvierners to choose from. Cornella is always smiling & willing to help you.
The only problem I found was that there are a lot of steps at this resort. Be careful if you have young children & seniors.

Room Tip: The top floor is really nice. Depending on how many ppl are in your party, the villa would be the be...

I stayed at the Coyaba for 6 nights and 7 days with two friends and I will definitely be returning (but on a B&B rate)! The rooms were spacious and tidy and cleaned thoroughly daily. We had a massive balcony overlooking the sea that was absolutely breathtaking to see each morning. The staff was very helpful and kind and made every effort to ensure we were catered to.

As we were out for most of the day, we didn’t get to use much of the hotel facilities such as the swimming pool – but we didn’t see much point in using the swimming pool when there was a private beach with a jetty at our disposal. The beach was clean and beautiful but you have to wake up early to grab a sunbed (that’s pretty standard for most beaches). There were peddle boats that were available to rent and my friends had a blast on them. The hotel also features a ‘fitness centre’ which, in actual fact, is a small room with standard gym equipment (a couple running machines, cross trainers, and a few weights) and poor air con. I couldn’t last more than half an hour because it was just too hot. However, I was advised to go at 5/6am when the weather is cooler.

There are spa and beauty treatments (when the therapists are available) but they are very expensive and I would suggest taking a short 10 min walk (if you don’t mind leaving the hotel) to the Plazas down the road for the treatments at half the price and just as good. Also the plaza has few nice restaurants which are less expensive than the hotel if you were looking to lunch outside. The breakfasts at Coyaba were fantastic - my friend ate the ‘Jamaican’ breakfast every morning with a massive smile on his face.

The location of the hotel is perfect as there was a massive golf course situated right in front of it (though we never went) and all the good beaches are less than a 10 minute drive away. Also, we right in middle of two Kingdom Halls which was convenient.

The only reservation I have about the hotel is that their menu in the evening lacked variety and were overpriced for what you got. Apart from that, I loved my stay and would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the sea have bigger balconies.

Hotel drive in confirms colonial past, but very welcoming.
Hotel porter and front desk very helpful.
Room more than adequate, but rooms need small fridge for water etc overnight, you seem to have to beg for bottled water.
All Inclusive package is a bit confussing as you have to sign for everthing and this slows it down,
But not a problem when you get used to it.
Into day 2 and cant fault the food choice.
Looking to travel off site today for local vibes- here for 14 days so will update.

I will admit that I was nervous about staying here because many of the reviews said the service was bad. I am glad I stayed. I had the best stay and service. My room was wonderful with an awesome view of the ocean. Richard the senior bell hop gave a great quick tour and I felt welcomed immediately. I arrived on a Monday and was able to attend the manager's reception; it was wonderful. The fresh, fried plantain chips were some of the best I ever had. Here are the pluses: service was exceptional. From my maid, Haycienth, the front desk and the wait service. Exceptional! My room was fabulous. I arrived right at two and it was ready. I was in 315 and it looked like it was just upgraded. Food: I did not do the all inclusive, but had lunch at the Docks. The calamari and mahi-mahi sandwich were delicious. The calamari was so fresh. The meal was a bit pricy, but no more than a meal I would pay for in Chicago. There are some minor things I would change: cut down the palm leaves for a better ocean view; and get softer pillows. Otherwise, this was a perfect, small resort for me and my friend. We had a relaxing time and will go back again.

I visited this hotel in many occasions and I find the size and locations to be assets to the hotel, but since my first visit the menus are still basically the same, very unfriendly to the vegetarians guests. I believe that with so many visitors coming from Europe and USA where vegetarianism is becoming the norm the hotel should really improve their menus and include options to cater for non meat eaters.

Our family with 3 teenagers had a wonderful time at Coyaba Beach Resort, and I would certainly recommend it to anyone (like us) who prefers a smaller resort that gives wonderful attention to detail. We were there in the off season, but the beach was not at all crowded, the beach chairs were comfy, and there were plenty of activities for our teenagers. We hadn't really checked to see if we were getting an ocean view, but that moment that we entered our rooms and walked onto the decks to see the beautiful view of the ocean after a long day of travel was just priceless!
