“Nice stay, good trips.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

The hotel is a bit dated and can use some TLC. We had an ocean front room on the top floor of one of the towers. This is our 4th trip to Sunset Beach Resort. We keep coming back because the staff is great, it's perfectly located close to many excursion sites, the price is right, and we can bring our friends and their kids. The food is average but the drinks nice and strong. If you want a nice place to relax and enjoy with friends or just as a couple, Sunset Beach Resort is a good low cost place.

We stayed at this hotel for two weeks in August, the kids enjoyed the water park alot, but kids activities should have been more because my sons were 10 and 12 and nothing to do in the kids club, so they were in the pool and beach for the entire holiday, the food service is poor, two much flies in outer area of dining room, the food at caribbean night was excellent we enjoyed that, breakfast, you need to have bacon every morning like all the other hotels! because when they take the 1 tray of bacon out, its such a rush and so with mango, THIS IS JA mango should always be on buffet line especially in summer, some of the chefs were friendly, The operations manager very unfriendly, some of these managers walk around without even saying hello, the grounds are very clean and always tidy so was the pool and beach area, the italian restaurant wasn't great but was'nt bad either, the entertainment crew was ok, the fire show and stell band best entertainment, the young man at the pool grill was excellent always smiling!! Rooms are in urgent need of repairs, the curtain in bathroom hooks are rusted and the baths need changing, the hotel needs to be sprayed more often too many mosquito they bit my kids up really bad. Overall my stay was not bad.

Over the years of visiting Sunset Beach in Mobay, I had always enjoyed my stay. This time i invited a few friends ( twelve of us) after telling them how much fun i had the last time. However i was not pleased as a few things were downgraded. There were not many choices with food in the main dining buffet, the choices were rather boring. The deserts were even so, as i hardly found much choices. What happen to the cheesecakes?? The nightly entertainment was like a ritual, i could not help looking at the other guests faces and wonder, what on earth was going through their minds. The bass guitarist definetely need to retire as he stood like a statue for the whole show!!! I chose going to bed instead. The greater points were that the staff are actually very friendly, the food at the Asian restaurant is to die for, we did enjoy the Italian restaurant also. The kids truly enjoyed Klub Mongoose and the waterslide and the rooms are very comfortable. I liked the themes for each floor. They had names of sea creatures. The Jerk chicken at the grill is fabulous but what happened to the great burgers that they used to serve up?? The burgers were horrible and tasted like rubber. Pleeease get back those tasty burgers you once had, my kids were heart broken. I will be back only if some changes have been made in these areas.

Room Tip: B1005, a fabulous room, greta view, king size bed and quiet.

we spent five nights at the Sunset. The staff were all very nice. Yes the property could do with a dab of paint here and there, but it was worth the money. I found the place to be very clean.

One suggestion, in the buffet and the restaurants on the grounds to provide more options for someone with a vegan diet.

Looking forward to going again in 2014, wish I had found this place sooner

Room Tip: we had a room on the west side was not too noisy could only hear the water running from the pool whi...

When it comes to holiday in Jamaica, there is only one place for us, Sunset Beech Resort & Spa - Montego Bay. We spent 2 weeks in July 2013 at this hotel and the service was excellent! This was our 3rd visit to the hotel and we were pleasantly surprised that over the years, both the hotel and service had improved. We went as a family of 4 (2 Adults and 2 children) and enjoyed a variety of activities such as the Waterpark, Beech, Service, Food not to mention the entertainment. The general manager and his team pride themselves in EXCELLENT customer care and made our stay fantastic.

I will strongly recommend this hotel to everyone! Thank you Mr Bloomfield and your team for a fantastic service. We will be back!

Room Tip: Strongly recommend the "Cabana's".

We spend a good part of our Jamaica trips with locals in the countryside, but we enjoy staying at an all inclusive for access to the beach and relaxed dining.
Sunset Beach is a fabulous value. We paid under $300 for 2 nights (booking through Expedia), for both of us! This was with a king sized bed on a 5th floor overlooking the port and "gardens".
I's easy to pay up to $1,000 for the same stay at other more upscale hotels.
So, I was a bit nervous about what to expect.
Well, it did take 2 hours for them to prepare our room. (I had expected some wait..but this was getting disturbing). We did catch some drinks and food in the waiting period.
The Buffett selctions were healthy and hearty, and we were satisfied by the meals.
The restaurants were often booked for reservations early, but you can still try walking in and you could get seated. We did, and had a meal at the Asian Chinese. The food was very ordinary, and the selections were limited to a fix menu.
The guests came from Canada, England, New York, Boston, Philly, the Mid-west, Europe, Africa, and even locales. It was largely a motley crowd (many guests were obese). Plenty of Children. Some couples and newly weds. People seemed to be having a grea time.
We enjoyed quite morning relaxaing in the sea on the eastern side of the facility, with lounge chairs under a flowering tree. I did some effective snorkling and kayaking with equipment from the hotel.
Lots of family reunions. I can see why, with the great values.
The entertainment was surprisingly good! We saw an award winning Jamaican High School Chorus who did a mix of Popular, Spiritual, and Reggae songs and dance. They brought tears to our eyes. A fashion show the next evening.
Kids are festive and having a great time all day and night.
You need to purchase wi-fi access.

Stayed there for an extended 5 day weekend. Lets start at the beginning:
Getting there: You can pre-book a round trip transportation before arriving at any of the travel companies (about $40 round trip), you can get the same deal at the airport (there are about 20 companies to pick from), you can get a taxi ($40 each way for two people).
Check-in is 3pm. Do yourself a favor and register on their website before arriving that will cut off a few hours off your check-in. We arrived at 10 am and had to wait till 12:30 to go to the room, but from what I heard that's pretty good.
You receive: room keys, towel keys, wrist band and safe key. Do NOT lose any of these items as they all come with a hefty price tag.
Rooms: Clean enough, looks very old. Showers need a clear curtain so you are not taking a shower in the dark. Poor water pressure. Shampoo and Body Wash dispensers on the wall. Very old, cheap, small towels. You get two "larger" towers, one floor mat, one hand towel and two wash clothes. Oh well, they did the job. Absolutely no smoking in the rooms or on the balcony. There are designated smoking areas throughout the resort. It is a $250 fine if they find out you were smoking in the room or on the balcony. There is no fridge in the room (you can rent one). There is no bottled water anywhere on the resort. So your options are: drink out of the tap (safe actually), go to a bar and get a tiny little glass of water, or drink alcohol. There are no ice machines anywhere on any floors. Have to go to the bar to get ice.
Calling out: If you are not lucky enough to have your cell phones work there, then you have one option. You can purchase a calling card at the cashier and then use one of two "payphones" located near the spa to call. Be prepared to wait in line for that. There are phones in every room but you can only dial operator from there.
Bars: There are a few, they are well placed. Never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for a drink. Drinks are strong, but very small. Bartenders don't have a problem pouring extra or giving you an extra cup. Do yourself a favor though, bring a water bottle! You will be dehydrated by the end of the trip.
Food: There are three "reservation" restaurants (Italian, Asian, and Jamaican). Make sure you book those, if you want to check them out, in advance. But NOT online. They will lose your online reservations and then make you feel like you did something wrong. We went to Italian (pretty horrible if you ask me), Asian (not bad, but not much better than frozen supermarket tv dinner Asian). We did not get a chance to go to Jamaican (they seem to be closed all the time). There is a beach grill, which has very small selection and its just ok. And the buffet. There you will have all of your breakfasts (French toast was amazing), all of your lunches and most of your dinners. All the food there was good. No complaints at all.
Service: Tip your bellboy, he will watch out for you the whole trip. Tip your bartender (especially if you are using the same bar often), your drinks will get better. Service could be friendlier. I would have loved to see the lady at guest service desk smile or at least not be mean to you when you are trying to do something. They really should hire a couple of servers to go up to people at the pool and on the beach and offer them drinks. Would have been great!
Trips and Excursions: Whenever you take a bus anywhere, be prepared to stop at EVERY resort along the way. What should be an hour long trip will turn into a three hour long one without a doubt. Suggest not booking a dinner reservation on a day you are doing an excursion.
Beach: crystal clear water with fish and jelly fish swimming up all the way to shore. Plenty of chairs to relax. Not too many people, not loud, not crowded. Very little sand area though.
We went to: Margaritaville on a Saturday night, Dunn's River falls (excursion that included a catamaran cruise and snorkeling, as well as the Dunn's falls). The falls are not to be missed! the rest I could have done without.
