So this was the first time we have traveled out of the country with our 2 little girls (4 and 7). I was so excited to get away and have a nice family vacation. Our 1st day at the resort was not so good...we got there around noon and we got lucky our room was ready but the room def did not look like the picture. It was so small and nothing to and my husband and I have stayed at many all inclusives in a basic room that have been very nice, but this did not even come close. I dealt with it and we headed to the food area, there was nothing for the kids to really eat, no chicken nuggets, no hot dogs, no grilled cheese, pizza was awful. The food in general was just bad the whole time we were there and we chose this place because it seemed so family oriented. The drinks are around 6 oz so you have to have like 3 or 4 of them to really fulfill your need. All of the other all inclusives we have been to, they at least have a refrigerator that is stocked each day with juice and soda but these were not. So then the pool, we waited 30 minutes for clean towels which by that time I was so tired and so irritated that I was ready to just pack up and leave. However, I went to the manager and expressed my concerns. She was very nice and tried to really accommodate us the rest of the trip, but the whole point is that this is supposed to be a family resort and it did not seem that way at all. The entertainment was geared very much towards adults; the daily activities were geared towards adults. It was very disappointing; however my girls did have a good time which was really all that mattered to me.

Buffet offered quite the variety. Coffee delicious. Bacon to die for. Italian Resturant & Jamaican Resturant very good. All kid friendly food too. Only complaint about some foods...over salted. Had view of ocean. Stunning. Clean rooms. Mattress, too hard & pillows the pits. Shower head spray is bad but tub is shiny. Plenty of towels. Lots of activities. Also at pool. Water sports. Snorkeling, etc. many pools. Many "drink" stations. Smoking not permitted in all areas. Gardens & property is beautifully maintained. Warerpark amazing. One last thing...staff are so nice and helpful. They all say your welcome when you say thank you & look you in the eyes & it feels like they really mean it. So warm.

Our family went to Montego Bay and stayed at the Sunset Beach Resort and Water Park from November 4th until November 10th. We had seven adults and four children in our party. This in an all inclusive resort. Upon arrival at the resort, check-in went fairly smoothly. We had requested Ocean front rooms and all four rooms were in fact Ocean front with nice views of the pools, beaches and the ocean. The room were fine, but not spectacular. Each room had a balcony and were what I would describe as average hotel rooms. Each room had a flat screen tv with limited Direct TV, hair dryer, ironing board and iron. A room safe was present, but had no lock. We did not ask, but were told by others that you had to put down a deposit and then they would give you a lock for the safe.

The staff was friendly overall. There are three decent sized pools and the water park. The water park was okay. It had two giant slides and a lazy river. The slides were slow and our grandkids were not overly impressed with them. It seemed that there were more kids using the pools than were using the water park. It could use a little sprucing up. Beach towel cards were provided to check out pool/beach towels. Sometimes you had to wait for the laundry to wash and dry more towels. We had to wait on several occasions.

The beach is long and narrow. There is an "au naturel" section of the beach that did not appear to be widely used. Many of the loungers were broken and could not have the backs raised and locked in place, though you could still lay flat on them (It appeared all of the loungers in the pool area were in proper working order). You could go on a free guided snorkeling trip off the beach which some of our family enjoyed. You could also take out kayaks and paddle boats free of charge.

The food was decent, not great. There are two speciality restaurants. One features Chinese cuisine and the other is Italian cuisine. Both places had good food and attentive staff. The drinks at all the bars and restaurants tend to be small, but pretty strong. The buffet was also average in quality.

All in all, my family enjoyed this resort. For what we payed, we believe we got a good value. If you want a five star resort, this is not your place. But it also does not cost you the same as a five star resort. For air fare and six nights, we paid an average of less than $850.00 per person compared to a five star all inclusive price of $1500-$2000 per person. I would give it three stars.

Stayed at the Sunset Beach in October. Travelled with Sunwing on an early morning flight so we arrived in Mo Bay around 10:15am. Going through customs at the airport was fine except for a rude agent. Short trip to the resort, got there early and had to wait for a room. Knew that this might happen so we were prepared to wait a little while. We walked around the resort then had lunch and went back to check for our room around 1pm, but still was not ready. We had to wait until around 2:30 to finally get a room and were a little disappointed with it.

We stayed in the Sunrise A tower and our room really needed some TLC. Over the time we stayed there, the shower curtain rail broke and it took 3 days and several requests to get it fixed. As well the counter in the bathroom was coming away from the wall and bits of metal fell off. It got progressively worse each day, to the point where I was afraid to even touch it. Again, we informed the hotel, but nothing was done about it.

Room was kept clean and AC worked fine. Had a nice view of the bay and the beach. We were also near the main reception so luckily we got some WIFI reception in our room, which was the main reason I did not want to switch. Paid $30 US for a week of internet which was the best deal as it was around $5 per hour otherwise!!

Food was good for the most part. Lunch was a little boring most days as the main dish was always some form of chicken. We joked about what kind of chicken it would be for lunch each day. However, there was also fish and vegetarian options as well as the beach grill with yummy jerk chicken or burgers, hot dogs, nachos and fries. Breakfast and dinner was much better- fresh omlettes at breakfast and a variety of North American and Jamaican options at both meals. We had an amazing buffet on the Saturday night gala dinner and for the beach party! Italian and Asian a-la-carte restaurants were also very good.

Beach was okay depending on where you went. We always tried to find a spot close to the beach bar as the ocean near there was clearer and the sand not so rocky. There were lots of weeds though the further you went out into the ocean and some jelly fish after it rained. But overall the water was clear and nice to swim and snorkel in. Lots of beach chairs so never worries around finding any.

We only went on only 1 excursion as the prices were too high. Everything was $100 US or more per person – even a taxi to the city was $20 US each way (for a 10 min ride). I understand that people are trying to make a living, but I hate feeling that I’m getting ripped off at every turn. We did the JUTT Village tour with Larry which was really good and a good price $65 each with lunch. If you do it make sure to bring some supplies for the school kids – they have just one building (more small house) which is the only primary school in the mountain community and they are badly in need of supplies and resources.

We were on a peninsular but the stores were only about 10 minutes away by car. However, the hotel staff did not recommend walking to tourists! So options were a taxi (expensive unless you were sharing a ride) or the hotel shuttle for $10 each. The resort allowed vendors to come onto the grounds to sell so we did not have to go out and buy stuff. They were not pushy at all and seemed willing to negotiate. We did a little shopping in Mo Bay and I found people to be a bit more aggressive. Even when you said no they would keep coming at you. Prices were outrageous for most things like kids t-shirts for $24 US!! We ended up buying gifts at the airport on our way back as it was cheapest.

I enjoyed our vacation as it was restful, which is what we needed. I don’t think I will be back to Jamaica anytime soon. The Resort was a 3 star at best and we got a good deal so we were not expecting much more but we found most things in Jamaica way too expensive!
