“Great time at Sunset Beach-Mobay...PLEASE IGNORE BAD REVIEWS!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2012

Hello All, Have just returned from a 10 day vacation Feb 4-14 2012 at Sunset Beach and Spa Resort, Montego Bay. It was our second time in Jamaica and first time at this resort. I researched extensively this resort before booking it and was very very pleasantly surprised and can not figure out why there are bad reviews about this hotel. I am so grateful to a some trip advisors reviews that communicated with me for almost two weeks before I finally booked it. Also I knew of someone in my circle of friends that had actually been here and she also told me I would not be disappointed.

I will first say that the staff are very hard working and are geniuely willing to help if someone so requires assistance on the resort. I travelled with a couple on our bus from the airport and they were using wheelchairs and they were assisted very easily by the bus drivers and the staff....very accomodating at Sunset Beach.

I must mention the following people Kerrel, Food Dining Hall Supervisor in the AM, Camille server during the day, Garrett (Asian Restaurant), Phyllis (small supply shop cashier), Maurice (reservations desk and excursions), Sachoi (sunsetter club and returning guests representative), Gloria (head of housekeeping), Janet, Supervisor of Cleaning, Wade, Steve and Kevon (helped with luggage and guests getting to their rooms), James (lifeguard), Arniece and Tanya, (front desk and SUPER PATIENT women) and Cynthia and Mary in housekeeping. They kept the cabana rooms SPOTLESS and were so efficient! Also a shout out to Tara in the spa, she gave me a facial, massage and nail polish change...she has a beautiful spirit!

These people as well as all others at this resort are very hard working and will be at your beck and call. They are honest and very forthright. I feel its important to recognize great team work. There are servers from the buffet in the AM and PM, that I can not remember their names, but can not forget their great service.

We stayed in a 'cabana room' near the west end of the resort. It was steps to the ocean and on the lower floor. It was absolutely heavenly. The rooms are rennovated and some come with a king sized bed and some with two double beds and a large screen tv. Watched some great programming in the late evening, all good! The bathroom is small, however very suitable for its purpose. The balcony is wonderful and the air conditioner works wonderful. We were steps from a pool, the towel hut, the grill, two bars and of course the buffet. We heard the entertainment from our room. It always finished at 11 pm. It was loud, but heck its a VACATION,,,,,,was really WONDERFUL and again I can not understand why people complain about this place. I met several people from all over the world that stayed in the two towers and they were very happy with their ocean facing rooms. They had no complaints and if they had issues, they were resolved quickly and easily. Things happen, no resort is PERFECT, but its all about how people run the resort and it is run very well. Thanks Sunset Beach!

So let me break it down for some people who are skeptical....

The beds are comfy, the view AMAZING, the food is great and not that repetative as people have mentioned. It was fresh and changed at every meal. The buffet is great. I did not drink alcohol, yet my husband did and he tried the drink of the day and was pleasantly surprised. I had the virgin drink and they were all great! The service was quick and efficient. Trust me the buffet got really really busy and the staff moved to make us all happy with clean tables and great smiles to match!

I participated in the aqua fitness and zumba classes and then enjoyed the ocean for hours. There is so much to do, even if you do not leave the resort. The entertainment staff(sorry forgot their names) were constantly playing games and great music. They were hilarious. And many guests lined up to participate. While I was there, they had a Bob Marley day to celebrate his birthday, a superbowl party with a full Jamaican marching band to usher in the games. I mean this resort just went all out and I do not even watch football. Me and hubby thoroughly enjoyed this place. Again, why bad reviews???? People need to relax and not SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF! Also the nightly entertainment was good and the kids were entertained and there was a bit of everything for everyone. Its Jamaica and the culture came through. Just really enjoyed it all. That marching band was amazing!

This is a family resort, and all you saw were kids having fun on the beach and at the waterpark. No one complaining, just fun fun fun and more fun!

If you have any questions, please message me, and I will answer as best as I can. Do not listen to the bad reviews. Book a cabana room, totally worth it, eat at all the restaurants, enjoy the great energy from the staff, book an excursion (spoke with people who went on the dune buggy, zip lining, ys falls and bob marley house and musem tours)...they all loved it!!!! Also snorkelling and sailaing the catamaran was free and people used these..as well as the kayaks.

We were looking to relax and when we got home last night we were still in relax mode....still feel it today.

Enjoy this resort, come again, they have great perks if you are a returning guest!

Lastly, internet is only in the lobby, but it works and all my programs loaded on my iphone very nicely and quickly.

For new guests, its 5.00 per hour, or 15.00 for 24 hours or 30.00 for 7 days unlimited.(US dollars). If you are a returning guest, you are an automatic VIP and its free.

Take a chance, book last minute, the deals are great and go to Sunset Beach at Montego Bay. Enjoy Enjoy...you will NOT be dissapointed!!

Room Tip: Choose the cabana rooms, they are spectacular and right on the beach! Close to two bars and to the...

We just finished a 10 day vacation with our two children aged 11 and 14. After reading a few reviews i was a bit hesitant on coming to this resort. once we arrived, we received very prompt and friendly service. this is def. not the newest resort we have ever stayed at but we got a great price and it was worth it. the staff is great, the food is average. the a la cart restaurant were great and the presentation of food was amazing. this is our second stay at the sunset resorts and will def. be coming back!

Come to this resort!

Where can I start....

Rooms:The rooms are split into I believe 3 buildings. One building is reserved through sunquest and is much better than the other rooms. But the other rooms in the other 2 buildings are fine as well, don't expect plush comforters or a big plasma TV though! The bathroom is clean and works fine, and you don't hear noise at night, so you will rest FINE!

Food: The food at the buffet is o.k but the specialty resturants are what made it amazing! The italian restaurant is definitely one to make reservations at in advanced, I think we ate there 4/7 nights we were there! Try the chicken parm! The asian restaurant is good if you like asian food and unique dishes. The Jamaican restaurant offers a lot of the food that the buffet does, so dont worry if you dont make it there.

Hotel: The hotel is clean and a nice environment. It is very open spaced and the lobby is so nice to just relax in with your friends and family.

Pool: The pools are really fun and theres a lazy river, water slide, everything you need, especially for the kiddies. There is also a swim up bar pool that is super nice.

Beach: The beach is nice and clean, lots to do there.

Staff: This is the section that I know the most about! WOW! The staff becomes your life long friends! The entertainment staff will laugh with you and hang with you during the day if you don't know what to do. I know that I left with a lot of facebook and lifelong friends from this resort! They always want to keep you busy and will offer you to "start a volleyball game" and they will for sure join in! I didn't meet ONE bad staff while i was there. It was amazing!

For Kids/teens: There is both a kid center and a teen center at this resort. The teen center is basically a big room, two floors, that has pooltables, a soda fountain machine and a TV with games. It's actually very fun and roomy for the kids.

The kid center is basically where you can bring your kids if you want to do something for a few hours, while the teen center is more your kids and go in and out.

Also, I would recommend going to climb Dunn's falls! I think adults and kids over 13 should be fine doing it! You get a tape of your climb to take home!

Overall, this resort is a good place if you want to be safe, have fun and enjoy your trip to the fullest!

Room Tip: Try for the sunquest rooms if you can! But I think you have to book through them! Check it out.

It was our second trip back. The entire family went. We had the best time of our lives. It is defaintly for the family or senior types. If your a all nighter party animal then this is not the place for you. They have wonderul entertainment but it ends at an early time which is nice. That way you can get up early and enjoy the entire day. If your a down to earth type you will fall in love with this resort for sure. If your looking to nit pick over small things then maybe an all star for adult couples only, might be the better choice. This resort offers so much at a great value. The food is good! The bar grill makes the best pizza! The pools are clean and fun, the beaches are beautiful. The bar drinks are yummy. The rooms are very clean and the service is amazing. We are planning on returning next year and bringing friends with us! Can't wait! what more could you ask for? Have a positive outlook with a little respect and your guaranteed to have a great time at Sunset Beach Montego Bay Jamaica!

Room Tip: Rooms close to the water park are best for children

pro's
-yummy JA food, great entertainment staff, bars not overcrowded, can snorkel right off the beach, not far from townand airport, friendly staff, waterpark, women are amazing at kids club, lots of activities, plenty of beach volleyball, yummy soft serve ice cream and plenty frozen drinks dirty banana the best, ricardo's evolution of dance at talent show the best, bonfire party was cool, liked hobbi cat ride out and last but not least LAZY RIVER!

cons
lil run down, food selection not huge (but ALWAYS a few great dishes), nightlife not great (guess that depends a lot on guests), no coffee bar, no mojitos, hills hide sunrise and sunset

tips
-request room change if given lower level, views are beautiful from above and lower rooms are noisy
-bring water shoes for beach and pool (saw a few kids with cuts from waterpark)
-don't pay for any trips or cabs near hotel if u want to save money *cabs cost $30 to downtown right outside hotel, walk around the block and u can pay under $2 (unregistered cab that may pick up other customers on route)
-take some bread, corn, cheese or other fish food and throw off rocks on the far left of beach, u will enjoy beautiful ocean life at your feet!
-don't waste evenings at italian or asian, JA restaurant rocks and buffet is better than others
-don't miss ackee and saltfish, only served sunday at breakfast buffet
-ask for appleton or u will get crappy rum
-tennis pro is good guy, take a free lesson or two
-bring ur own coffee, if u r picky
