“Completely overrated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2005

We've read so many wonderful reviews of Half Moon and are completely baffled. We just spent a week in a villa there and we were counting the days until we could get home. Our staff at our villa started out strong but after 3 days, the service really fizzled out. The food was terrible everywhere except the Sugar Mill. Everything was completely disorganized--we never got the same answer twice from different staff members. The beaches were OK, nothing special--had a good massage in the spa, but they were also completely disorganized. Half Moon could be a really lovely place to stay but they really have work to do in terms of gracious service, clean grounds, and better food. I wish we could have come home with a better review!!

The Half Moon is a great place to unwind and relax. We went there for our 4 year anniversary, and this place was exactly what we needed. Even though the Half Moon is a kid friendly resort, there were not too many children there, which was a good thing during our visit. The staff is extremely friendly and deserves all the tips they earn and then some. I want to thank my wife for making me want to travel to wonderful places like Half Moon. I couldn't ask for a better amor verdadero. Special Thanks to EVERYONE who took care of us in W.C. 45!
Hope to see all of you next year!

We just returned from a five day stay at the Half Moon. We were there for our neice's wedding and stayed in a seven bedroom villa. Actually it was Villa 95, and our staff of Geneva, Alwayne, and Lisa were wonderful. The food they prepared was excellent, and the presentation was like something in a five-star restaurant. They couldn't have been any more accommodating. The resort itself is beautiful and so well maintained. The grounds are picture perfect. My only negative complaint would be that the location of the villas is so far away from the main area of the resort. Thank goodness we had golf carts. We did eat at a couple of the restaurants, and the food was very good. Service can tend to be a little slow, but after all you're in Jamaica. I would recommend taking extra dollar bills for tipping. Just a little bit of tipping goes a long way. Overall, our Half Moon experience was such that we definitely would return.

We just returned from a 7 day stay at Half Moon. It was the best vacation of our lives. We traveled with our children aged 9 and 11. Everything from the unique rooms, to the beach, the food, the stables, the service, the weather, the transportation was fabulous. Keeping in mind that we travel often to 4 and 5 star resorts throughout the Carribean and Hawaii, we rate Half Moon #1. We cannot wait to return. Expect only the best at Half Moon and you will not be disappointed.

I travelled to Half Moon for a women's retreat from October 18th 2005 - October 23rd 2005. I truly had a wonderful time. We stayed in Villa 56. It was beautiful, and Lurlie (the housekeeper) was outstanding. I preferred breakfast at the buffet in the Seagrape Terrace restaurant, but many of the women stayed behind for breakfast prepared by our cook.

The beauty of the grounds is astounding, even with the small amount of rain that we encountered (Hurricane Wilma). Our favorite restaurant was the Royal Stocks Pub with the Sugar Mill running a close second. I would like to visit again when all of the restaurants are open.

I enjoyed swimming in the pool outside our villa and at the Hibiscus pool with swim up bar. One issue we had was that the hot tub was never hot. Half Moon was great, great, great.

Spent five amazing days at Half Moon in a beautiful Villa... the resort was beautiful, the staff was amazing, I had a blast. The villa was beautiful, what a luxury to be served breakfast by our own pool. If you are travelling with family or doing business, you cannot go wrong with a villa, it was wonderful. The butler, Everton, the cook Esme and housekeeper Michelle were terrific, hats off to them. Our group stayed in the villa for cocktails in the evening, and even had a terrific curry dinner cooked by Esme! Here is how good the service is- I am allergic to peppers, and Esme went out of her way to make a pepper-free curry plate just for me, and served it with a wide grin. We were treated like royalty! I was at Half Moon for a four- day meeting, and the conference rooms were beautifully equipped, with everything you could need. Terrific place to do business and enjoy as well! Spent some time at the stables, which were fabulous. All the horses were fat and fit, which is a rarity for hire horses in the Caribbean- you could see how beautifully managed they were, Trina obviously manages every detail carefully. I plan on returning to take lessons with her, she was amazing!
There was some construction wrapping up while I was there, and it was fun to see them put the finishing touches on the new additions. I am looking forward to returning and staying there, they look beautiful. I was with a group of 7 women and we were treated very politely, even the construction workers were well behaved.
I would return to Half Moon tomorrow if I could, and enjoy every second of it. Highly recommended!

OK, we stayed for the new years' eve, and perhaps that was why the whole hotel was in a chaos. We really looked forwad to our stay, but when we arrived after a 4 hours exhausting drive from Kingston, we were greeted by refreshments and were told to wait until the check-in was completed. We expected to wait for 15 mins, bu waited 3 hours!! When we got to our room, the card key didn't work, took another 1 hour to get somebody to fix it, then discovered that the french doors cannot be closed at all. After another 2 hours wait (and it was well after dinnertime) we were finally shown to another (better) room. The rest of the stay was fairly OK, except the fact that we nearly ended up not being able to eat on the new years' eve, because almost every restaurant was boked up. The beaches are breathtakingly beautiful, the ground unbelievably spacious, but the management ... have they overstretched?
