My partner and I stayed at the Rose Hall between 5th July and the 19th (and are writing this review while taking a break from the sun). We read many reviews before choosing the Rose Hall and were in fact going to get married here a couple of years ago but instead opted for Mexico as this hotel was in the process of being renovated and undergoing the handover from Wyndham to Hilton. All of the reviews we read were excellent and we were therefore a little disappointed to find that we were placed in a room with twin beds (which we managed to change) and then had to queue for over half an hour to eat at the Fresh buffet after having a delayed flight in on the first night. We later realised that this was not an unusual occurrence and queueing was commonplace in the morning and ther evening despite their being numerous tables. Whilst I realise that Jamaica has a no problem laid back attitude, this is still suppsed to be a four star plus hilton resort and I wouldn't have expected to have to queue for food and then wait another half hour for a drink.
The pool is lovely and there are plenty of loungers although too few shades, and the loungers and tables within the restaurants were a little too close together, so you couldn't help overhearing your neighbours conversations even when you were trying to have a romantic evening with your partner.
The beaches throughout this area of Montego Bay are very shallow, but we didn't mind this too much as the views are beautiful wherever and as far as trips are concerned we went on the Cool Runnings trip to Dunnes River Falls which is an absolute must!
The night time entertainment is dreadful and as other guests have commented the only good night is Sunday when there is a beach party.
The bedrooms are very modern and comfortable and well fitted out and you don't get the usual issues that you have with the caribbean in respect of bugs/mosquitos. There is a door leading through to the bedroom next door which does however mean that you can hear your neighbour quite closely. Also whilst there is a mini bar, it is completely empty and room service is quite expensive.
We have been too a number of other resorts within the Caribbean and this is definitely the poorest that we have stayed at and we won't be coming back.
We have enjoyed our stay in Jamaica but that is more to do with the natural environment that Jamaica brings and the company rather than the resort.
I am very glad we chose Mexico as our wedding destination as we have seen a coupe of weddings take place whilst we have been here. One of the weddings was on a pagoda by the sea which I'm sure would have been beautiful had a volley ball pitch not been set up right next to it.
Having stayed at Hilton's in the UK we simply expected a different standard than we received and have been put off staying in Hilton's elsewhere for the future. Not that the hotel is terrible. Its just not that good either.
