“first trip to jamaica”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

Nice resort very clean and the food and entertainment was good. The al la carte's not so much jerk chicken hut on the beach and the buffets are better. If you are expecting to be waited on for example served drinks either on the beach or in the lounge you are better off to pick another place as they do not provide servers at this resort other than that nice place

Room Tip: no elevators so if stairs are a concern pick a lower floor

First of all, this is not a five star resort, I don't believe they claim to be one. The Riu Montego Bay is a wonderful place. The drinks are great, the food is good. I would recommend making your reservations for the "fancy" restaurants the minute you check in or you probably wont get in to them. The pool swim up bar is loud and rowdy, take care of your bartenders and they will take care of you. The entertainment staff is very good. I recommend the steed drum band on Monday nights, the beach party on Tuesday nights, and the Micheal Jackson show on Friday nights. The food at the buffets is average, but, remember, it's all inclusive. The jets flying over are loud, but I found I didn't pay much attention to them after a few drinks. The beach is nice, there is seaweed a little ways out, didn't seem to bother anyone. As with any resort, get your chair by the pool or the beach early. All in all, after reading all of the negative reviews on here, I was nervous about this place. But it is what it is: an all inclusive three star resort. If you want five star, spend the money and go to a five star, but don't buy three and expect five......

Room Tip: The rooms are nice and the staff does a wonderful job of cleaning.....

We just returned from there and it was the best resort ever. Very clean, the help was well trained, rooms were neat & tidy, and met all my expectations. The food was also good and the help was extremely polite! Would recommend this to anyone!

Room Tip: I can't think one room is any better than the others. They were quiet and clean!

As always with Riu the food was excellent in all restaurants, plenty of choice for everyone. If anything maybe a little bland but good quality. The staff in every department were pleasant, friendly and helpful, having time for a chat and joke as well as being efficient.
The rooms were comfortable and clean. The well stocked free mini bar was lovely but we would have liked access to tea or coffee in the room for early morning. The entertainment staff were hard working and talented. There was room on the beach to find a quiet spot away from all the noise, We do like to get out of the hotel and walk around but there was little scope for that here as this area seems to be all big hotels and resorts. There was one small bar we could walk to on the waters edge and we did go to the shopping area accross the road. Otherwise you need taxis or trips to take you out.

Room Tip: We were in building 2 which was nice andhandy for everything but not too noisy.

Our first time to Jamaica and have to say once you go you know!! Even tho we went in oct we still reminisce on the time we had at the riu in Jamaica! We tell everyone about it! The service was great in every aspect, from the front desk to the waiters and the cleaning crew! The food was great at the riu, breakfast was our all time favourite :) we made friends with everyone and we had a certain waiter who always held our table for us at the buffet area. The pool was kept clean and our rooms were spectacular! The view was awesome and the beds were HUGE, Sheets were changed every day clean towels and drinks filled up in our mini fridge everyday. The nightly entertainment was awesome every night! We made sure to never miss it :) the jerk chicken hut was soo good! We ate there every lunch that we were not on an excursion. The resort was just beautiful! Every couple of nights they had a walk way where there were locals that would come to sell their hand crafted things from jewellery to toys and home decor. Loved how they offered taxis and bus trips to different shopping centres around Montego Bay for cheap! The only thing i would say was a downfall was that you were so close to the airport you could see and hear the planes flying over the resort but that never bothered us. Everyone we met in Jamaica was awesome and it was just fantastic!! We would go again in a heart beat and stay at the riu! You will not regret your decision to stay here!
