“Relaxing vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

We just returned from a pleasant vacation using Riug Montego Bay as a base - the reception, the staff and management were very attentative, cooperative and were able to deal with our questions and requests quickly anbd efficiently. The hotel itself and rooms are clean, comfortable and roomy. The grounds, beach and swimming pool are clean catering to all ages, from children to octogenarians+
For those that like to walk on the beach, you will need to do a few laps back and forth, it is a private but small beach- 300 meters or so - no waves to speak of - never felt crowded even though the hotel was full ( 1000 guest capacity ).
Good sailing, kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, shows, entertainment and bar activities -
The pools are not deep, but pleasant and more than adequate,
If you want variety in food make sure you book the specialty restaurants days ahead, overall the food is OK.

Room Tip: There are 6 individual buildings, 1 is closest to the lobby and restaurants and pool, 5 and 6 are cl...

We stayed at the RIU January 27th to Feb 3rd. It was a beautiful resort and the staff worked especially hard to keep everyone happy. Check in.....very smooth it took only a few minutes to get checked in, the room was ready and it was very clean. The rooms were roomy and had a very nice minibar including 4 bottles and a mini fridge with beer, mixers and water. The beds were a little on the firm side but hey...its all you can drink!! Every morning we had a towel animal on our bed different each day. The bars were great and had several above amazing bartenders....Sedrick the entertainer who delivered your drinks on his head and balanced bottles on his chin was amazing as was Diane with a Y. Never had to wait long for a drink at any of the bars and we did tip but every time the bartender finished serving a drink they would ask who was next and would take care of that person. Anyone who complains about the food has got to have an issue. The choices were so vast there was no way anyone could not find something to their liking. The specialty restaurants were alright and not super special I think I would stick with the buffet being almost everything you get at the restaurants is on the buffet anyhow. And as everyone has mentioned the Jerk chicken on the beach is the bomb!!!! Do not miss it!!! Entertainment was nice. The entertainers work from morning to night to put the shows on and they work hard. We look for a smaller sized resorts that you are able to meet and see the same people more than once and we are not the type that enjoy having to dress up every night just to eat. This was a very nice, casual, fun resort and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Will definately go back!!

We stayed at Riu Montego Bay with a group of 15 people. This was our first time in Jamaica. The food was beyond our expectations. The rooms were very spacious and clean. We had to fight to get a restaurant reservation for 7pm as they were all booked and we were told there is weddings so they could not accomodate us. The beach is very short but we did not mind that. The staff were friendly and helpful. We would definetely go back. Bring your own pillow as the pillows were very uncomfortable.

Although the Riu Montego Bay Hotel may not look as glamourous as some other resorts, it was just perfect for us! We were often out on the beaches or touring the nearby sites, but when we did stay in, everything was clean and the people were very friendly.

We just got back from the RIU and this was a lot of fun.
The food was terrific and a great assortment of dishes.
The jerk chicken shack on the beach was a lunch favorite.
Bring lots of $1.00 and $5.00 bills for tips.
The staff is the most attentive and the hardest working that I have experienced and I've been to a few different resorts , mostly in the Bahamas.
Make your Italian and Steakhouse reservations when you get there as they fill up quick.
The drinks are great and plentiful.
The only downsides are the beach and the planes overhead.
The resort is about 2 miles down from the takeoff runway from the airport so there are a lot of planes leaving every afternoon and evening but you will get used to it.
The beach wasn't the best. The bottom 15 feet out is mud amd lots of sea grass. Nothing that would ruin a vacation but bring water shoes if you plan on wading with your favorite beverage in the water.
