As the only hotel in Maypen I was very disappointed and would have re located, if that had been an option. I would defiantly not recommend this hotel to any of my friends or family.
I arrived at the hotel on the 15th October where I checked into apartment two. I was disappointed to find that there was only a white sheet on the beds, when I requested a comforter I was told I would receive this in the morning. This is not acceptable as the beds should have been made up regardless to weather the room was booked and if not a comforted should have been available at reception. When I went to put my stuff I noticed a lizard in the room, in shock I dropped my tablets and the bottle smashed on the floor, when I looked in the kitchen there was nothing to sweep the broken glass up with. After walking over to reception I was told housekeeping would soon be over, when she finally arrived she cleaned up the mess as well as trying to get rid of the lizard but was unsuccessful. I then decided to share a room with my daughter as was not prepared to stay in a room with a lizard crawling around.
When entering the bathroom I realised there were no plugs in either the sink or bath, once again I walked back to reception and was told that I would have to wait till the next morning. When returning to my apartment I decided to relax and watch television, as I went to put my drink down I realised there was no glass top to the small table situated by the sofa, the same could be said for the bedside table in the bedrooms. There was also no curtains at the window which meant people passing by could see us as well as our belongings. The apartment was not suitable for living in as there was no gas in the cooker and no glasses or cups to even have a drink of water.
The next day I was moved to a studio apartment. When I spoke to Ms Smith to inform her that I did not find it reasonable that I should have to pay the full amount for a room that was not in an acceptable condition, I was told that she couldn’t make a decision regarding compensation. When I came back a few days later I was told to come back the next day, as a decision was still being made. This carried on till my last day in which she informed me that I would not be receiving any money back as compensation. I feel this is unreasonable, as I did not get what I was paying for the night I was in the apartment. Ms Smith on purpose did not give me a decision until it was too late and I had to leave.
When I book into a room I expect it to be of the standard I am paying for, I do not expect to find things missing making it inhabitable. For this reason I deem it unacceptable that I was not compensated after paying the full rate for a room with only half the belongings in it.
I do not think this situation was handled correctly and I was disappointed in this hotel and the service I received. When I moved to room 204 the bedding was ripped, the mirror was cracked and the bath tap leaked constantly which was distracting at nighttime when trying to sleep. All in all I think the hotel is of an unacceptable standard, which I would not even give one star to.
