I don't normally start reviews off with the "bad news" first, but I figure I will get that out of the way and then get to the good stuff!
A few weeks before we arrived, Prem (Silversands CEO) emailed us to inform us that construction was taking place on a new villa next door to Blue Vista. I was initially concerned, but since construction can start and stop at any time, we figured it would probably be ok. Long story short, we had to put up with 10 days of non-stop noise, including; hammers, yelling, radios, jackhammers, drills, saws, yep...the whole nine yards. We almost moved villas, but decided to ask for unlimited use of watersports and spend more time down at the beach.
Ok - now that we have that over with, onto the review of Blue Vista.
Traveling with my wife and kids and my parents, we were met at the airport by a nice air-con bus that took us to Silversands. We enjoyed complimentary drinks onboard - much appreciated as we were hot and tired! Arriving at Blue Vista, we were met by our cook Miss Lily and her helper Marcia. They had prepared dinner for us and helped us settle in quickly. My mother was born and raised in Jamaica, so she worked out the menu with Lily for our 10 day stay. We had some other extended family (Jamaican as well) staying down the road at Windjammer. It really made for a great time, going back and forth between houses and pools, etc.
As far as the Villa itself, you cannot beat the view!! The house is towards the end of the property, so it is very quiet (when no construction is going on), but still a fairly short walk to the beach. The property is wonderful, set on a slight hill. The flow of the house is very open, with dining room, living room and master bedroom opening out onto the pool patio. The pool was very clean and warm. The bedrooms and bathrooms were a bit dated, but hey, we were just sleeping there! Very comfortable, yet simple.
Miss Lily and Marcia were FANTASTIC! We so enjoyed getting to know them and Lily is an AWESOME cook. Wow....she will make just about anything. We had some old Jamaican recipes and our kids enjoyed everything! There is an ackee tree, key lime tree and aloe plant at the house. We had salt fish and ackee, lime zest and lime juice and fresh aloe for those nasty sunburns!
The beach was just fantastic! Not too many people, watersports were great and the water to die for! They hold events down at the beach bar area at night, but the only one we went to was the crab race night and magic night. To be honest, it was a little sad - very few people showed up during the weeknight events and it was all a little forced. I also feel bad for anyone in the villa's near the beach....the music was so loud, I'm not sure how anyone could relax!! Thankfully, you could not hear any of the music from Blue Vista!
All in all, the staff were very good to us. Angela took good care of us and was genuinely concerned about the issues we were having. We would definitely go back, but now that we know what to look for, it should be less stressful the first few days.
You need to be on your game with food. Unless you have an unlimited budget, you'll need to set...
