I don't know if this information is still valid, as I stayed her a few years ago. When I first tried to post this review , the site search box advised that there are no Haiti hotels and no Cormier Plage Haiti, and I felt I had to let travelers know about this one. ( In fact it still says this while displaying results for 13 reviews.) For what it's worth, here's my review. My photo of the beach, which was accepted a few weeks back, is posted under photos.

I stayed here one night, as a walk-in booking for two rooms, one for me and one for my driver/guide, after a promised room at another hotel in Cap-Haitien had been given to another guest, and that hotel was now fully booked. The Cormier Plage room rate included a very good full breakfast, and they took credit card payment. The open-air restaurant had great food, nicely presented.

Cormier Plage's staff and owners at the time were very hospitable. The location is great, right on a quiet stretch of beach. The reef off the beach is supposed to be great for diving. The owner (unless it's changed hands) used to dive with Cousteau.

I personally am not a fan of beachfront living, as various 'critters' can wander in. Sure enough, I had a few during the night.

The room itself was comfortable, clean. Do NOT expect television, etc The rooms had air conditioning operated off a generator, so power is available all night.

I have been to this hotel many times and always enjoy it. The service is good, the rooms are spacious with comfortable beds, the food is well prepared and the beach is very clean and uncrowded. And they make excellent rum sours, which you can drink while playing backgammon near the bar! I have been there many times with friends of all nationalities, including Haitians, and have never experienced nor witnessed any type of discrimination.

“A Slice of Paradise”

While thousands of tourists visit the Caribbean each year most steer clear of Haiti. Haiti is a country in turmoil with more than its fair share of poverty and that must be kept in mind when traveling there. However, our family of five recently returned from an amazing vacation there on the north side of the island and spent 8 nights at the wonderful Cormier Plage Hotel.

Getting to this slice of paradise from the Cap Haitien airport is an adventure over potholed dirt roads through some eye popping living conditions, but the reward is the oasis of Cormier Plage’s beautiful grounds. We enjoyed relaxing on Cormier’s private, white sand beaches and eating the most delicious meals in an open-air bamboo-roofed dining room.

Meals at Cormier are spent in the outdoor dining area with choices of wonderfully prepared Creole, French, or American dishes. Mornings are always started with a platter of fresh tropical fruits, strong Haitian coffee and a variety of breakfast selections. In the evenings you can choose to have a quiet meal enjoying the warm breezes and soft Caribbean music or you may find yourself mingling with interesting visitors from around the world.

The five of us had two rooms that had both air conditioning and ceiling fans. The rooms were clean, bright, and decorated with tropical paintings and colorful curtains. Our beds were comfortable and the mosquitoes of the Caribbean were minimal in our rooms.

Our kids, ages 7, 9 and 12 delighted in digging in the sand, swimming in the warm water of the reef protected beach and collecting shells. Jean-Bernard, the ever gracious manager of the resort, went out of his way to accommodate our every need. Franklin, at the beach bar, was delightful, and kept an endless supply of purified cold water, sodas and lemonades for the kids, as well as rum punches for the parents. In fact, the entire service staff at the Cormier Plage was pleasant and professional.

When venturing off the insulated grounds of this resort a sense of adventure must be intact. A short ride down a treacherously rough and unpaved road will lead you to Royal Caribbean's Labadee beach. A visit on an afternoon when the cruise ships have not unloaded thousands of tourists onto the beach is a great way to spend a day. We also relished another day in a hired boat exploring other undeveloped coves and beaches and snorkeling spots along the coast.

I would wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Cormier Plage. You will certainly enjoy the delightful ambience this beach resort has to offer. We can’t wait to go back.

Cormier Plage is a glimmering jewel of a resort nestled in the verdant green mountains surrounding Cap Haitien, Haiti. The gorgeous beach is breathtakingly close to the beautifully appointed rooms complete with air-conditioning and private balconies, shaded by palm trees and and exotic tropical plants.

I have traveled all over the world and Cormier Plage is truly the most elegant, well-managed, and atmospheric resort I have ever had the privilege to visit.

Owned and managed for over thirty years by the Dicquemare family, Cormier Plage is the definition of class, style, and ambience. Staying there like being an honored guest in a friendly and warm private home.

The dining is in a class of its own: gourmet creole dishes, lobster, fish, fresh fruit, sumptuous soups and creative desserts served in the elegant open-air dining room under muted amber lighting.

More importantly is the atmosphere that the Dicquemare's have created; understated, sophisticated, and peaceful. I just spent four weeks there and I really didn't want to leave.

The Haitian staff is friendly, professional, and attentive and a delight to interact with.

I urge other Americans to ignore their misconceptions of Haiti and visit Cormier as soon as possible. Beautiful and unspoiled resorts do not exist forever and Cormier is pure magic. It comes as no surprise that some very famous movie stars and writers have traveled to Cormier Plage to get away from the troubles of the world.

If you like gambling, noise, music, and disco-dancing, by all means stay away from Cormier Plage. If your taste is more sophisticated and you yearn for a break from the ordinary, book your room immediately.

Thank you so much Jean-Bernard, Jean Claude, and Madame Dicquemare for your kindness and your wonderful hospitality. I hope to return for years to come. The experience of luxury, relaxation, interesting conversation, and peace will stay with me a lifetime.

When in Haiti we always make it a point to go into Cap haitian and Cormier Plage is a regular stop for spending a great afternoon. The food is great, the beach lovely, however it has been my experience that the natives are not welcome. If we only have one or two with us, they are allowed in, but then watched with suspicion. There have been times they've been refused entry by the older gentlemen that own the place. His wife does not do this.
My feeling is that if a hotel is in HAITI, then Haitians should be allowed to use its facilities as long as they are paying like the other customers.

Management Response

Cormier is owned by a French-Haitian family with friend from all origin.
As a responsible owner we watch carefully how our customer behave (beach goers can be very noisy and ill mannered), we are very proud of our reputation as a peaceful place.
We do not allow music, neither food nor drink on the beach, because we have a bar and a restaurant, this is the only reason we will turn customer away, and we always do it in a very professional manner.
The majority of our customers are foreigner working in Haiti and Haitians from Port-au-Prince and Cap. Thinking that we would discriminate Haitians is not responsible we have 30 years on the market and it is the first time such allegations are made.
For what I understand the complaint is base on looks more than in actual fact of discrimination.
We are very sorry for this misinterpretation.
