These days, tourists in Haiti usually have another compelling reason to be there, other than tourism. This hotel isn't for the tourist looking for only a luxury Caribbean vacation, but is ideal for people who are in Haiti for another reason and looking for a getaway weekend. Undoubtedly the best feature of Cormier Plage is the food - amazing lobster, seafood, and breakfasts. There wasn't a meal we did not thorougly enjoy. And the prices for food and drink are quite reasonable (breakfast and dinner are included in the $146 per night room charge). Wireless internet throughout the property definitely attracts several people. The grounds of Cormier Plage are gorgeous, particularly the gardens growing throughout the hotel. There is a short shallow stretch of beach before you reach a coral reef that's impossible to swim over in low tide, which makes this an ideal spot for children to play in the short shallow space of water available, but perhaps not an ideal beach for adult swimmers.
It seems that Cormier Plage has been declining since it's hayday and is now cutting corners on rooms and service. Staff make sure the grounds are immaculate, but take a few steps down the beach off the property and you'll find the beach littered with garbage. Service in the dining room and bar is very slow and not entirely reliable. The room wasn't as clean or as nice as you'd expect for the price. If you're spending more than one night in the hotel, don't expect housekeeping to change your towels between nights or provide any more than two handtowels and two regular towels. Air conditioning only functions after 6pm. Water pressure improves after 6pm, but isn't great.
All this makes Cormier Plage a wonderful place to spend the day lounging on the beach and at the bar, but probably not worth your money to pay for a room so you can stay overnight. If you can find other accomodations in the area, we recommend you do - Norm's Place in nearby Labadie is much more charming and reasonably priced.
