I spent 7 months in Haiti during the winter/spring of 2005/2006 while working for MIEEH. The 4 weeks that I was fortunate to stay at Cormier Plage were the best accommodations and time that I had while we were working in Nord and Nord Est.
Bernadette at the bar always welcomed us in with a smile in the evening after travelling all day through Haiti's difficult roads. The rest of the staff and management are extremely thoughtful and wonderful in providing services.
Cap Haitien does have flights that come in through the Carribean and from Miami, but most visitors are likely to fly into Port au Prince and then take the daily flights up to the Cap. Cormier Plage provides pick up (if arranged in advance) at the airport for the short (20 minute trip) to the hotel.
Be prepared to see extreme poverty due to Haiti's unsettled civil society, yet come and be a witness to the incredible beauty from the mountains overlooking the sea and in the faces of the local inhabitants.
Haitiens are a proud, noble and hard working people, who deserve a break. Help them out by trying a more challenging vacation and spend your tourist dollars in Haiti instead of the Dominican Republic or Cuba. You will return home with a better appreciation of your own country and the knowledge that your vacation dollars are helping out some very deserving people!
