My stay at the Oloffson, in Sept. of 2003, was a step back into another time. The hotel is charming. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The other guests were eclectic and fascinating. I read Graham Greene's The Comedians while rocking on a huge verandah outside my room. The pool was like heaven after the heat of my Haiti visit. I will never forget sitting on the front porch restaurant, sipping wine, and overlooking the lights of Port A Prince as a huge thunderstorm rained down. The gardens are beautiful, and potted ferns adorn every nook and cranny. The Oloffson could be called, "bare bones" by the spoiled. But the history, the Haitian culture, the wonderful music, and the ambiance are truely of another world. Don't miss your chance to stay in Haiti's "magical oasis."
