The Visa Lodge is very close to PAP, perhaps within a mile or so. The room charge includes transportation to the airport at no charge (be sure to tip your driver, though). The rooms are clean and comfortable--not fancy, but air conditioned and have nice restrooms. The dining area/bar is good. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the beer was cold. After working in rural parts of Haiti, it was a nice diversion and mental "return" to a more familiar environment. Downside: internet access was, I thought, a bit pricey.

Having stayed at the Montana and now the Visa Lodge, my personal preference will always be for the Visa, for its close proximity to the airport and for the much more down-to-earth attitude and environment. While the vistas aren't from a hillside overlooking the city, the quick trip to the airport really made the travel home feel a lot easier.

We just got back. 3/29/05. My husband and I went down to haiti to adopt 2 little girls. The staff at the hotel were kind and helpful. The food was very good. The water is safe to drink in the fridge and at the bar. The raw veggies are also safe to eat because they bleach them and then rinse them in filtered/ culligan water. We would go back if we need to. They have very good security at the hotel. I was there with the girls by myself for two weeks and as the civil unrest went on all around us, I felt totally safe.

I visited the Visa Lodge in March 2005 after my flight was cancelled at the last minute. After spending a week in the countryside of Haiti, I welcomed my stay at Visa Lodge. The room was clean with a queen size bed, hot water, a fridge, air conditioning, and a TV!!! (CNN was the only English station) The staff was polite and professional. The restaraunt provided delicious food (large portions--the pepperoni pizza and chicken were delicious!) The pool was clean and there was also a pool table and a nice bar. It was a pleasure to stay there even though it was not planned!
