I would highly recommend a cab ride right from the airport to Kaliko beach resort. the enterance is still a mess but once you are inside the resort, they are really doing a good job. We were there with 2 young boys and they loved it. It was during the middle of the week so it was quiet. It was our favorite place to stay. The "cottages" were adjoining rooms with 2 beds and a pull out couch in each. The electricity and water all worked fine for us. We didn't have one complaint.

Avoid weekends if possible when the folks from PAP arrive to clog and pee in the pool. Always request 'chambre independant', otherwise you're at the mercy of the diaspora guy from NY w/ his rap at full volume. Recycled food but very kind staff, all from surrounding hamlets who are paid v. low wages. Even a few dollars upon departure to each of those workers who have assisted the guest in some way during their stay is appreciated beyond measure. I am always astonished during the course of my many visits at the degree to which this kindness is never observed and the cultural insensitivity this inaction reveals. Generator frequently cuts off after noon w/ story about 'no fuel from PAP' as reason. Very wealthy/mercenary Italian owner.

This was my first trip to Haiti and I was overwhelmed by it. The resort was a beacon of light in a country of darkness. Kaliko was awesome by Haitian standards, which are probably different than US standards. I would not say that our room was particularly clean and many "friends" visited us in our room at night. Yes we did have water in our shower but the trickle didn't do much for shampooing so we hit the shower next to the pool, which worked out fine. Take your own towels as those are sometimes in the room and sometimes not. The electricity only went out a couple of times while we were there.

I would give it a 5 star rating in Haiti, but probably a 1 star in the US.

Had been to Kaliko Beach several years ago and some things have changed overall same clean rooms and quiet serene atmosphere, wasn't aware that the electricity goes off during the day, never happened the last time, food was a diiferent story, some was unedible and only 1 meat available, not worth the all inclusive rate, also had to pay for drinks. pool dirty. The service was excellent and the staff was very accommodating. had internet access,so laptop came in handy for entertainment. just fine without phone or tv, I almost forgot cold water for showers, but was able to adjust.

When I got there I did not expect much but I had a great stay. I had not just a room but a little house all to myself. I was traveling alone so I was bit bored but I made friends with a Haitian family who visited from NY. The Kaliko is so beautiful. There is only a small beach area thougth. The rest of the beach is big rocks and you cannot really swim there thougth I saw some brave people do so. The water is soooooo warm but if you are as white as me, you better use a lot of sun tan lotion. You could see my urn on my back still in October! Kaliko is really far from PAP so it will take about 1 hour to get there but it is really worth it. It is cheap too. You pay one price and all food and driks are included. Very nice. Oh, before I forget. No radio, no tv and no phone in the room. Bring a radio or you will go crazy!!!

  • Liked — Ocean right ouside of my door
  • Disliked — No radio
