“Best Place To Stay”

Hotel Montana

If you have to travel to Port-au-Prince, this is the place to stay. I have been to this hotel many times, and it always gets a little better. For this trip, I stayed in a suite. The 2 rooms were extremely ample, well lit, clean, bathroom large with plenty of towels. Bed comfortable, internet speed acceptable, air conditioning strong ( 1 split unit in each room), fantastic views from both living room and bedroom.
Hotel has plenty of security, and feels very safe. In general, front desk and staff try to be helpful, most of them understand English, however, service can be slow and special requests have to be repeated again and again....
Food at the restaurant is quite good and reasonably priced, ( the lobster salad is excellant). The breakfast is acceptable, lunch and dinner much better. Service is EXTREMELY SLOW, and waiters sometime have difficulty understanding what you want ( you ask for a napkin and you get a fork....) but they try their best.
This is Haiti after all and its best to get used to the pace and its quirks.
The hotel is not a Four Season's ,however, even by US standards, you feel confortable and safe.
I've stayed at the Villa Creole Hotel down the road, not bad, but doesnt compare to staying at the Montana. The El Rancho Hotel, forget about it.

The Montana, as noted by others, has beautiful views and is quiet and secluded. The breakfast buffet is good value, and the omelettes are some of the best I've had anywhere. It was a good base of operations for research and business, with plenty of places outside under the trees to sit and hold meetings, have drinks, etc. Internet access in the rooms was good to have and reliable, but expensive. Left luggage for a few days while traveling elsewhere in the country, and it was all there when I got back--another plus. Rooms vary quite significantly in quality--if you don't like what you see at first, go back to the desk and request something else.

Overall I would highly recommend this hotel.

“Not what I expected”

Hotel Montana

This was my first visit to Haiti and I wasn't sure what to expect from the hotel. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel was well protected, check in efficient and the room large with a tremendous view. Lunch in the open air restaurant was very reasonably priced, the service good and that standard of food above average.

I would recommend this hotel for any business traveller to Haiti.

I stayed at Montana with my family while on business in Haiti late last year. The staff was great, the food excellent;and the hotel had some of the most breath taking views you'll ever get from any other hotel in Haiti, despite the fact that I stayed there through hurricane "Noel".

So why not "Excellent"...right?

Well they scored zero in terms of activities, zero in terms of any kind of ambience...period. Not once during my stay did I hear a hint even, of Haitian music; there was NOTHING in terms of entertainment. Montana is still one of the best hotels in that part of Haiti...but in my view they could be much better, if they would simply hire a DJ to liven up the place at night or have a guest speaker come in from time to time and talk about the culture/ the music/ the food/ the art....anything !!

I stayed at the Hotel Montana for 4 nights to attend a business trip in Port Au Prince Haiti. The staff (from the front desk, to the restaurant staff) were all pleasant, willing to provide assistance. Many of the staff speak English, Spanish and French which is great for the many international travelers at Hotel Montana. During my stay there was a Congresswoman, Ambassador and seveal Haitian dignitaries staying or visiting/ having a meal at Hotel Montana. The seclusion of the hotel makes it feel very safe. Additionally, the view from the hotel's restaurant is incredible. There are seveal nooks and places to relax, talk from the newsbar area, various terraces on each floor, garden, to poolside- there is also a boutique which I didn't have a chance to use. Conference rooms are abundant.

I also used the business center to rent a cellular phone ($5/day) and it worked quite well in Haiti. All the modern amenities are avilable at this hotel for business and pleasure. My rate for the room was $135.00 US and the room had air conditioning. The room was basic-- a full size bed, tv with US channels included, desk, chair and separate bathroom. The room door did not have a peephole, the towels were a bit worn, no access to an ice machine and hot water was a bit more warm than hot on the first morning I was there. Dinner on average is $20 and breakfast $10. I entertained a few friends and for the 5 of us including drinks it was $99.

In my future trips to Haiti I will certainly stay at Hotel Montana which is close enough to downtown Port au Prince, but far enough to get some rest and relaxation. Also close to Petion Ville which allows for shopping and great restaurants.

Overall, a great hotel with excellent staff.
