If you have to travel to Port-au-Prince, this is the place to stay. I have been to this hotel many times, and it always gets a little better. For this trip, I stayed in a suite. The 2 rooms were extremely ample, well lit, clean, bathroom large with plenty of towels. Bed comfortable, internet speed acceptable, air conditioning strong ( 1 split unit in each room), fantastic views from both living room and bedroom.
Hotel has plenty of security, and feels very safe. In general, front desk and staff try to be helpful, most of them understand English, however, service can be slow and special requests have to be repeated again and again....
Food at the restaurant is quite good and reasonably priced, ( the lobster salad is excellant). The breakfast is acceptable, lunch and dinner much better. Service is EXTREMELY SLOW, and waiters sometime have difficulty understanding what you want ( you ask for a napkin and you get a fork....) but they try their best.
This is Haiti after all and its best to get used to the pace and its quirks.
The hotel is not a Four Season's ,however, even by US standards, you feel confortable and safe.
I've stayed at the Villa Creole Hotel down the road, not bad, but doesnt compare to staying at the Montana. The El Rancho Hotel, forget about it.
