I had the opportunity to visit twicw(98&99). My stay was wonderful: the rates were a little steep, but the staff and food was worth the stay.

I stayed at the Le Plaza twice in the 80's, and my stay there was very nice. In spite of the conditions there, the staff and management run a very good operation. I especially remember sitting one afternoon under the ceiling fans outside by the pool area. The gentle breeze and the view of the outside pool surrounded by the rooms was remarkable. The rooms were better than I had expected and the staff were very helpful.
I look forward to returning this summer!

I have visited Haiti several times and have stayed at the Le Plaza about half dozen of those times. For starter, the Le Plaza used to be the Holiday Inn Le Plaza; however, the Holiday Inn Corp. removed their name as a franchise for several reasons. One of those reasons may be that the management does not "scurry" away all of the hustlers hanging out in front of the hotel. Last time that I stayed there, I was walking towards the hotel and had a hooker jump on my back. Yeah, I was pissed-off!! A few minutes laster, after I pryed the bitch off from me, I asked the front desk why these people were being allowed to "hang-out" in front of the hotel and furthermore, in the veranda area, where taxis would pull-up. To this day, I can not figure out their answer.
The rooms are GREAT, actually real nice-a good bar right by the pool, and a restaurant also near the pool side. The food at the restaurant is quite tolerable, I recommend the Creole Cabrit for dinner, and the Creole Omlette for breakfast. Although, the beginning of this review was not great, I do recommend this hotel, just be careful outside of the hotel, especially in the evening.

I had a great time there. Eventhough the hotel in right in front the champs de mars, and I was there during the demonstrations, it felt really safe. Guard 24h, restaurant opened late, and confortable rooms.
THe staff were very friendly and understanding. Plus it was very convenient because you have all the museums next to the hotel and tourism agencies to prepare your stays in Haiti. Go to Jacmel.
