My wife and I stayed for 2 nights last weekend to attend a wedding nearby. At £60 per night per couple, Rhyd-y-Bryn represents amazing value. The hosts are the most friendly and helpful people you could hope to meet. We arrived at 10.30 pm late on Friday night and we sat and chatted with them whilst unwinding over a bottle of wine. Our double ensuite room had a lovely view of the surrounding countryside and it was perfectly peaceful. The room is certainly not minimalist in style but fastidiously clean and packed with the kinds of helpful accessories that some hotels at more than twice the price do not provide e.g. bathrobes, slippers, fresh milk delivered to your door every morning.... even some painkillers to ward off that alcohol-induced headache. The bed was not super large - but I slept extremely well even though I am 6ft 5in.
Coming to the breakfast - Rhyd-y-Bryn outshines almost any breakfast we have had anywhere. All freshly cooked of course: free range eggs, delicious chipolatta sausages, crisp bacon...and Welsh potato cakes. Also, an incredible array of baked good, mostly baked on the premises. And freshly-ground beans for the coffee. Our fellow guests were equally impressed.
When people take such pride and delight in providing this level of service it restores your faith in the British B&B and makes you realise what a rip off the chain hotels are.
We wholeheartedly recommend a visit !
