“looking forward staying there again!”

Laluna

Feb 13, 2008

FANTASTIC! I do not think there are other adjectives to describe the experience.
cottages are really comfortable, simply and elegantly decorated, with a wonderful view of the sea, and a private external zone where you can get a massage or a pilates/yoga lesson by two of the most professional ladies I have ever encountered in my trips.
on the beach you can relax, drinking one of the nice cocktails the friendly bar staff would love to prepare for you...or if you want to be active, go for a swim, or use the catamaran or canoes the property put at their clients' disposal.
no fix timings for eating: if you get up at noon and still want breakfast, you can!
staff: kind, helpful, smiling and friendly. managers (a canadian couple) extremely professional and eager to satisfy their clients (when I arrived I was not feeling very well because of some throat ache: they went downtown and came back with some medicines for me!).
a place I will remember for ever...and would suggest to people wishing to spend a romantic, peaceful vacation in grenada...

“Perfect!!!”

I am a frequent reader of Tripadvisor and relied almost exclusively on previous reviews to book our trip in September after having to cancel Mexico due to Hurricane Dean. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Laluna... from the friendly and attentive staff, to the beautiful and unspoiled setting, it was truly one of the most amazing places I could have ever imgained my boyfriend proposing. On our second night there, he requested the restaurant to arrange a special dinner on the beach ... candles, hand-picked flowers and tiki torches all around, it really was one of those hopelessly romantic moments. That being said, for the entire seven days we stayed there, the staff could not have been more eager to make our vacation perfect. The rooms are gorgeous, decorated in a simple, non-resorty fashion that makes you feel as if you have been transported to a different time far away from our lives as we know them...The beach is secluded and feels as if you are the only two people on the island.. This is definitely a place for those looking for romance, relaxation and something out of the ordinary....I would suggest taking a tour of the island... it was a great experience and we went through the hotel who suggested Lenox, who we loved! The only slight negative is the somewhat limited, though good, menu at the restaurant... but really when you are in paradise, is having lobster two days in a row so bad?

“Beautiful & Relaxing Laluna”

I am reluctant to write this review because I want to keep Laluna off the radar. Laluna is the perfect place to relax in an incomparable and romantic setting. This is THE place to stay in Grenada if you wish to avoid the hustle and bustle of Grand Anse beach.

The rooms are perfect with Balinese furnishings, outdoor showers, private balconies and plunge - pools all with sea views. The views and sunsets are priceless.

The bar area is very comfortable with more Balinese style furnishings.

The beach is very quiet. It is shared only with a restaurant down the beach called The Beach House with serves excellent lunch and dinner. Swimming is excellent. The snorkeling could be quite good but the trade winds were kicking up while we were there so visibility was fair to poor.

The food was consistently good but not excellent. I bit more variety and better consistency would be good. This is the only negative I have for Laluna and it’s not a big one.

The hotel is run by a husband and wife from Canada. They are very friendly and helpful. No request was denied.

Grenada seems to have bounced back very well from Hurricane Ivan in 2004. Most buildings have been rebuilt or are in the process of being rebuilt. Also, most the vegetation has grown back. Support the island and visit!

Tips:

- All but one villa requires a steep climb up many steps. We were fine but if you are at all out of shape it would be difficult.

- If you want total privacy book a non-attached villa. Many of the villas are semi detached and you would give up some privacy when sitting on your deck over looking the ocean.

- Walk down to the beach to the left to the Beach House for lunch and dinner. Excellent.

- Avoid Oliver’s restaurant at the Spice Island resort. Not worth the price, stuffy atmosphere and average quality Prix Fixe menu.

- Eat at a local restaurant and get the traditional island dish Oil Down. A blend of curried meats, vegetables and dumplings.

- The road leading to Laluna is very bad but according to our taxi driver there is talk of fixing it. The rest of the roads on the island are excellent by Caribbean standards.

- Definitely take an island tour. Unspoiled and lush. The taxi drivers that the hotel uses are very good and reliable. Ask for Lenox.

- If you are a good snorkeler be sure to swim out beyond the point to the right of the beach. You will find impressive coral formations and sea fans.

- Take a water taxi just for a ride or over to Aquarium beach. The hotel can make arrangements.

- The good news is Laluna does not allow kids during high season. It’s not the place for kids anyway. For those of us looking for a quiet and romantic vacation it’s getting harder and harder to find adults only properties that aren't all inclusives. Please leave the kids at home or go to Disney World.

My wife and I stayed at Laluna for seven days and had a wonderful time. All of the staff were extremely friendly and always willing to help us out any way they could to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We stayed in room #7 which is a private cottage with a great view. The room was very spacious with a comfortable bed. My only gripe about the room was that they placed the toilet and bathroom sink outside of the room which was subjected to the extreme humidity. It is no fun sitting on the toilet in 90 degree weather with 100% humidity. However, the outdoor shower was a nice touch and contrary to other review postings we did not find any lizards in the bathroom although several were roaming around outside.

Meals
=====
We did not choose the overpriced meal plan and we were glad we didn't. We ate at the Laluna restaurant every day for breakfast but traveled to other places for dinner and lunch. We did have a couple of dinners at Laluna and the food was very good but a bit pricey.

Activities
=======
We did some snorkling right off the Laluna beach and saw some nice reefs and tropical fish. We hooked up with a local tour guide and visited the tropical rain forrest and Seven falls. We had a nice time exploring both places. Make sure you wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty if you go to either of these places. We spent a couple of days in town and hung out with the natives in the marketplace. The people were very friendly and we enjoyed eating at some local restaurants while walking around the area.

I must admit though that my favorite activity was lounging around all day on the private beach with my wife, reading books and sipping on tropical drinks. That's what true vacations are all about and Laluna was the perfect place for that. If you have the money to spend, you won't be disappointed with your stay there.

This is indeed a hidden gem. My wife and I travel extensively and love boutique hotels that offer the style and service one would expect from the top hotels, without the "we could be anywhere in the world sameness",......... LaLuna did not disappoint. The rooms are stylish (no bad carribean floral patterns here -and you won't find any faux toucan prints either...) and there are balanese and african furniture touches throughout the resort -everything is done with taste and a subtle hand. Each villa has its own deck with a sunbed overlooking the bay. The outdoor bathrooms and showers are wonderful (some may not like the open air aspect note-they are very private, but not separated from flora or fauna which we have also experienced in indonesia and malaysia and love). The plunge pools are more of a hot tub size, but they are not needed as the main pool and warm ocean are steps away.....I am thrown off by an earlier reviewers take on the food at the restuarant..... this is one of the best resort restuarants we have ever been to (and this includes the Penninsula, Oberoi etc....).....it is small, but the menu is varied and very healthy and fresh...including both local dishes and a wide variety of very well prepared continental cusine.... it is the first resort we have been to where we did not tire of the menu during our 10 day stay (again, this is likely due to the variation of the general menu, along with changing specials and fresh fish each day). We had everything from perfect fresh lobster to sirloin, to fresh pasta's and pumpkina and ginger soup......(you can also ask Bernadito, the chef and a wonderful talent to make just about anything....)
The staff have a kindness and warmth that really blew us away...... we felt like we were leaving friends by the end of our stay (they balanced our desire to learn about the island, with respect for our privacy which is always a difficult feat)....

As I am writing this review, I am a bit perplexed as it seems "too good to be true", but I really cannot find anything I would change about this resort.......We had a car while at LaLuna and stopped by many of the other places we had considered and were soooooo glad we had chosen LaLuna......(we lunched one day at Spice Island which felt like a bad Hyatt, and had a crowd that should have been on a cheap cruise ship.....)

But I will throw out some heads up advice: do not bring children here as this is really aimed at couples and kids would be bored out of their mind.... also, note that there are a number of steps to most of the villas -this was a non-issue for us, but is worth knowing if this would be a negative for you....

We will definately return to LaLuna!
