Have just returned from 2 weeks at the Grenadian by Rex. Stayed here in 2002 and 2004 - before Hurricane Ivan. Always found it comfortable, friendly, with good facilities. This year we found it much improved both as a result of refurbishment (after Ivan) and a new chef. There is a very relaxed ambiance throughout the hotel, good decor, and (for the Caribbean) a pretty good service. The most noticeable thing was the improved food. In the main restaurant there was a buffet with an excellent choice of starters, main courses and deserts presented at a very high standard. The Chef's Grill each night was outstanding. The poolside lunch bar was greatly enhanced from previous years, again with a good choice of menu from snacks to a full three-course meal.
If you want to be really lazy, choose a Beachfront room - all of a 10 yard walk from the beach!
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week stay, will return again and would recommend it to all travelling to Grenada.

We always check out a location on Tripadvisor before we book and were slightly nervous on our way to the Rex Grenadian.

The hotel may be five minutes walk from the airport but we were not bothered by noise from aircraft at all during our stay.

From the moment we arrived at the hotel, the staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was high up the hillside but gave us a delightful and unexpected viw of the sea.

Wandering around the extensive grounds, we ended up at the pool bar for the first of many early evenings with friendly guests and excellent staff (Abigail and Pheona to mention but two).

The location of the pool was great, with a constant breeze and plenty of shade available making it the coolest location on the resort.

The two beaches are fantastic, there will always be a sun lounger available and plenty of space in the sun or shade for you.

The smaller beach is better for swimming from as it has clear white sand from the beach with no rocks in many areas, while the longer beach is quieter (you can be alone all day on some sections) but because of more rocks, there were fewer places to get into the water from.

The highlight was definately the snorkelling. Direct from the beach, you will see all types, colours and sizes of fish, swim out a little further or around the rock and you will find yourself feeling more like Jack Cousteau with the chance of finding lobster, squid and octopus.

The staff at Devotion2Ocean were fantastic, the snorkelling trip was well organised, great value and gave a good view

The beach hawkers will come up and talk to you. If you're the type, haggle hard with someone early in your trip for an item and take that to the beach with you each day - but we didn't find them to be any trouble.

The breakfasts were excellent and really set you up for the day, wonderful fresh fruit and pancakes became a staple diet.

The dinners were very good and provided variety through our week. Even on an all inclusive, we visited the Aquarium restaurant at the end of the beach on a Friday evening for a memorable meal with live music.

Will definately return, next time we're in need of a week for relaxation.

“Ok for a 3 star hotel”

Grenadian by Rex Resorts

May 8, 2008
2/3 found this review helpful

We just came back from a week at the rex, and as expected is nothing out of this world, just a normal 3 star hotel.
The rooms are very basic and dated, some are cleaner than others...
The hotel grounds are nice, the beaches make up for everything else, they are really good, there are some rocks, but when the sea is warm and quiet and the sun shinning, who cares about the rocks!
I didn't find the vendors to be a problem, but they are quite persistent sometimes...
The pool is just horrible, I even cut my foot in one of the tiles, so that needs some attention.
The staff is not as friendly as some might say, with the odd exemption they are quite unfriendly towards guests, our requests were often ignored, or led to think that they were only doing it because they had to, but it was a terrible chore!!
The food was actually good, we were on the all inclusive and most of it was edible, with no food poisoning! Some meals were better than others, breakfast was basic, lunch either leftovers or a barbecue, but dinner was overall good.
All and all, you get what you pay for, and for the money was OK. Grenada is a beautiful place, the trip to the grenadines is strongly recommended and we had a great time.

“Terrible sunbeds. Awful Food, Annoying beach hawkers”

Grenadian by Rex Resorts

May 5, 2008

The hotel is clean and tidy. We stayed in a beach front room which was very comfortable.
The sunbeds are very old and uncomfortable. They look really tatty.
There was a constant flow of beach hawkers who were very persistent. If you aknowledged them, you were stuck with them talking to you for the next 15 mins. I found that the only way to avoid this was to pretend to be asleep but even then they would keep trying to wake us and make comments before they finally moved on.
The food in the buffet restaurant was awful and very poor quality.
The Asian restaurant was nice tho - but pricey!
We opted out of the all inclusive quickly and found some lovely nearby restaurants eg The Beach House (who do free return transfers) and The Aquarium.
The hotel staff were on the whole nice and helpfull but not many ever smiled and you certainly wouldn't describe them as welcoming!
I know its only 3* but cleaning up the beach and replacing the sunbeds would really help!

“Good family hotel”

Grenadian by Rex Resorts

8 hour flight with XL was on time but they charge for everything so take snacks headphones dvd player.

Hotel what you expect for 3 star. Kids club open 9-1 then 2-4 but needs 4 plus kids pre booked otherwise staff just don't turn up to open it up. So register kids for all days on arrival.

Food was the great surprise here. There was an Indian chef who produced the best curry every night, plus a chinese dish, pasta, english dish, kids corner chips, sausages/burger etc. I could go on and on about the buffet style food. You really have sooo much choice. I have never seen my daughter (6) so happy with the food can also ask for ice cream and they will get it. The restaurent staff couldn't do enough for you and were lovely.

If you want to go into St Georges there is a complimentary bus you pre book on for 9.30am. If you go out for the day ask for them to pack you a packed lunch the night before. This is free.

Its best to take the tours for safety. We hired a car for the day and drove round the island. There was not one town worth getting out the car for except in St Georges. We were constantly hassled when we did venture out in St Georges. Unfortunately, prices are really expensive £1 for a diet coke, $150 for a tour of the island in a taxi. Best to stay in the hotel or on a tour. This country will have to learn that if they hassle tourists we will not spend our money outside of the hotel complex. Hotel shop here very good and same price as in town. Not much more on offer in town so buy in the hotel shop.

Be warned when leaving there are not enough rooms made available to shower and change. The nearest cold shower was over by the pool. There is no other shower you can use.
