It's amazing how this place has such devotees - people who've returned year after year after year. We liked it well enough, though we found it has its cons as well as its pros.
We didn't stay all inclusive, which leads me to the first "con" - it is very geared to AI customers which makes it tricky to get a light breakfast or lunch etc. Apart from the excellent Aquarium restaurant down the beach it will cost a taxi or bus ride to find any other eating opportunities.
Which brings me to the second con - because it is near the airport taxis and buses charge quite a premium for the journey. Whereas you can get a bus from most places to another in Grenada for about 3.50EC$ a bus from St George to the Rex costs 10EC$ or from Grande Anse to the Rex costs 5EC$ - totally out of proportion. A similar thing happens with the taxis so a meal out at night if you haven't got a hire car can turn out quite expensive (we only did it once).
On the plus side it is within walking distance of the airport (useful for us when our cases didn't turn up!) and located on a very nice stretch of beach which I'm told is good for snorkelling (we couldn't as it was windy and the sea too rough). The Aquarium which is the only restaurant in walking distance is also a must for a least one meal (especially if you can make it to BBQ lobster on Sunday).
We dived with the on-site dive school at the Rex who were very friendly and reasonably priced.
There is free wi-fi access in the lounge - quite a boon for booking trips or checking Trip Advisor on the move!
Other plusses were having a fridge in our room, coffee making facilities (with good coffee!) and free access to ice. The room was also quite spacious.
Would we book again? Probably, though the eating and travelling issues would at least make us consider alternatives.
