“Nice Hotel, beautiful beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

Went to Grenada for a friends wedding, 2 weeks all inclusive at the Coyaba Beach Resort. Had a lovely time, it's a beautiful place- the people are friendly and even though it was the beginning of their rainy season, the weather was wonderful. The hotel was clean & nice, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the only issue we had worth mentioning was a dissagreement with the Hair Dresser & Make up artist brought in for the wedding. So I would advise any Brides/Bridesmaids going here to make sure all costs & details concerning the hair and make up are covered well before the event, in writing if possible.

This was the second hotel in our Saga "Islands of the Caribbean Tour" and a great improvement on Blue Haven in Tobago. The gardens are beautiful, standards of cleanliness in all areas is good as is the food. Rooms were also of a good standard although some people complained the en-suits were too small. Lots to do both in the hotel and in Grenada itself

Just come back from 2 weeks all inclusive at Coyaba.
Firstly this was not just a typical holiday for us, it was where we have just married and spent our honeymoon.
We booked it as part of a wedding package last year and I had done my research on Tripadvisor before choosing this resort.
Hotel is clean, gardens idyllic and staff were very friendly and anything we wanted or asked for was met. We were there 5 days before marrying and the wedding coordinator Sandra helped us sort our documents before the ceremony. There was a problem with the hairdresser the hotel provided so Sandra helped me find another girl to do my wedding day hair and she didn't disappoint. I was able to choose the type of bouquet I wanted and we also met with the head chef who designed a special wedding day dinner for us based on our likes/dislikes. Again everything was perfect and the staff knowing we were getting married made it extra special for us. We married on the beach and the other holidaymakers and staff all came to watch, champagne was brought to the beach to share with our new friends and a yummy cake was provided which we gave to the guests and staff that evening. Next morning we had champagne breakfast in our room.. lovely. During the stay my husband fancied some fresh coconut and after chatting to one of the hotel gardeners he brought some in from his garden the next day for us.
The beach is perfect with a few hawkers but they didn't pester you after you said a firm no thanks. Neither of us had any dodgy tummies which tells you what the standard of food was like. 2 restaurants, one casual and one more formal for the evening but you could eat the same menu at either restaurant, it just boils down to whether you want to wear casual or dress up.
Food was lovely with afternoon tea provided at 4pm daily with some biscuits/sandwiches. The pool was ok with a swim up bar serving cocktails and soft drinks all day. You could take a drink away with you and onto the beach if you liked to.
Nice clean bedrooms with comfy beds and pillows cleaned daily. After we married we asked if we could swap to a ground floor room nearer to the beach which they agreed, again nothing was any trouble.
A good fitness room there which my husband used most days and it was nice just to stand inside and cool off when it was humid outside!
We hired a car for a couple of days, it was delivered to hotel and the paperwork completed in 5mins. There are plenty of excursions to choose from but we decided that hiring a car and seeing the sites ourself was better for us with no time constraints and you could just go where you wanted in your own time. Drove to the north of the island and only needed to put about £20 petrol in it. A drive through the rainforest a must and we visited Concorde Falls.
By the second week some of the evening meals had become a little repetitive.
Hardly any evening entertainment apart from a steel band once a week and a very good singer mid week.
We both felt that the managers Tuesday night cocktail party was a bit of a let down. We arrived and couldn't wait to meet the owner and tell him we had just married at his hotel the day before but he didn't seen that bothered. He asked us where in the UK we are from and that was it really. His reaction disappointed us a bit and he was keen to move on and say hi to other guests. We felt it was just a public relations exercise and nothing more. It would have just been nice for the owner to have been a little more happy to know that we had chosen his hotel to marry at considering there are plenty of other places in the world we could have chosen. Lastly I got eaten alive by Mosquitos and had to get the doctor out 2 days before flying back as they got infected. About 20 bites on 1 leg, 15 on the other and that was after using over 50% deet in the repellant and other strong stuff. I didn't use perfume as that also attracts them and wore loose clothing to stop them getting trapped.. Little blighters still bit me!! I think the they got into the restaurant at night as its open air and they must just like my blood although husband got bitten second week and
he doesn't normally get bites. It could be the time of year as it is going into their rainy season. Maybe hotel could spray something around the gardens which may not attract them as much, I know some hotels do this.
We met lots of return guests who had been there several times before and for value for money I think it was great. If we return to Grenada again ( hope we will) we'll definitely go back to Coyaba but I'll check out best times for not being eaten alive by the Mosquitos!!

This hotel starts off with the huge advantage of being on Grand Anse Beach, the longest and possibly the best beach in Grenada. The sea is fairly calm and the beach is excellent for walking - turn left when you leave the grounds of the hotel for the better half of the beach - while the hotel is situated in a sizeable garden which is kept in first rate condition by an army of gardeners.

I would disagree with some of the previous reviewers who have said that the hotel is tired or in need of modernisation. Although the bathrooms are a little on the small side, I thought that everything else was more than adequate.

Most of the guests - when I was there - were repeat visitors and staying on an "all inclusive" basis, all of which would suggest that the food and drink was excellent, and it was. I tried several other nearby restaurants and nowhere was the food as good as at the Coyaba.

Also, bear in mind that this is the driest part of the island - the weather was very good and it stayed dry even when it was pouring with rain a mile down the road.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the ground floor if you don't like climbing stairs. There are no lifts.

I made my trip to Grenada for the first time with my beautiful girl friend and we stayed at Coyaba. On entering the resort their was a change the feeling, the place was quiet and windy. This is what I wanted for the both of us, just to relax without any interruption. We were welcomed with a big smile the food were excellent. Breakfast and lunch were buffet style. Every day was a different menu for lunch and dinner. Even though we had a problem with our room door the first night after we came from dinner the manager (sorry i didn't get his name) came to check the problem and gave us another room to stay in while they were trying to open the door. Eventually we collected out stuff and stayed in the new room. Grand Anse Beach was fantabulous.... I never thought that I would have experience sea water like that. We were entitled to water sports and that was lovely. Even though the weather was overcast we still enjoyed the beach and pool. The bar staff were very friendly. The manager even awarded us a complimentary stay because of the problem we had the first night. There were so much things to do at the hotel that it would be hard to find time to leave it. For sure I will return to Coyaba Resort. It was excellent

Arrived at Coyaba mid April & flight, transfer were good. Served with a rum punch on arrival after a 15/2- mins transfer. Thought initially we were too close to the airport but had no plane noise whatsoever. We had a room on the 1st floor which we asked for but disappointed with the interior. We did read some of the reviews & this had already been written about so not totally aghast with it. The furniture looked as if it was wooden hand made where the drawers/doors never really opened properly. Generally the hotel needs a good modern makeover which at present looks rather shabby. The lounge furniture I had been told was new but couldn't sit down on them as far too low & very uncomfortable. I always had to ask for separate cushions to use behind my back as I have a severe back problem. The staff were always ready to help me & we found all the staff pleasant, amicable & friendly. If there was anything you wanted you always asked & they helped you out. We have rated this hotel average, as 3* not for 4* rated by Virgin etc. It needs some serious updates. For your money you pay over the top & could easily have a 2 wk cruise for a lot cheaper as we found out!

The rooms were cleaned well & always a good daily towel service together with beach towels provided so no need to take your own which saves a bit more on your luggage. The beds were nice & firm, mattresses had covers on, we had 2 large double beds in our room & in the evening, chocs & flowers were left on the beds. The bathroom was pretty standard but no badly cracked tiles, etc., which some people had. What was a good idea from the ground floor room point of view was that separate stepping stone paths had been laid to the entrance to your patio doors.

The average age seemed to be 40-70's. No facilities here for children so watch out on this.

The weather in mid April was very hot & humid but no complaints after the awful weather we have been having in London for the past 6 months! Didn't come across any mosquitos but sand flies were very annoying & got bitten many, many times. Do take the jungle spray fly deterrent with you with 50% deet - it works - but I forgot to use it on some days hence the quantity of bites!

The food was good but the menus repetitive. All the food was cooked to a good standard and there were 2 restaurants to use providing you booked at breakfast for the one of your choice. I think the ' dessert' section needs a lot of improvement. You were offered very poor puddings wth no taste & seemed to spoil the finishing touch to the evening. The patisserie chef needs to go on a course to improve his/her skills. The afternoon tea could have been served much better. You served yourself & found dried sandwiches, small cakes (inedible) under a cloth but you have to hunt. I have been in a 4* hotel many times where afternoon teas were served where you had waiter service, proper patisseries available which were 5* rated.

We didn't use the pool - far too small & disappointing. The beach was just amazing which made the holiday. Glorious sands, clear turquoise waters & you could have lovely strolls on the beach meeting all sorts. Quite a few beach vendors here but if you just say 'no thankyou' & walk on no problem. If you stopped to chat to some, then you found yourself having some very interesting conversations into their background & how the locals live. Or you could sunbathe in the
hotel grounds & not be bothered too much by them. The security guards were there to check everything & felt secure when having a walk in the grounds afer our meal in the evening. We found a small kiosk on the boundaries of the beach/hotel where you could get your drinks - we didn't find this till much later on. There are a few showers too wash off the sea water BUT would have been better if there were changing rooms available to change into dry clothes afterwards. Again we found these available in many of the other 4* hotels that we have been in.

Lots of trips to take advantage of, especially boat trips which we enjoy the most. Although, these could be seasonal now. We had the last boat trips available & that was mid April which was end of season. They were the best ever, loads of fun, crew fun & made sure you were enjoying yourselves. I think the 'captain' of the catamaran made many 'friends'! A great guy.

An interesting island to visit & found this island better than other caribbean islands we have visited. A tour of the island is outstanding & visited many local places. We saw for the first time nutmeg trees, cocoa trees & breadfruit trees & found the trip very educational.

The location of the hotel was spot on from our point of view being right on the best beach. You could walk out of the hotel to the KFC opposite if you were hungry! There are shops neaby for you to browse & catching the local bus is always an adventure if you want to go into St Georges or any other place. Doesn't cost much & are always around. To go into St Georges takes about 10 mins by bus - altho their buses are like 10 seater people carriers.

All in all a nice holiday - missing it already! Hiccups were 3* in our opinion not 4*, needs a good makeover & needs some better patisserie chefs or for them to go on courses. The dining room decorations too need an update to put a bit of 4* sparkle back into the old place.

Coyaba Beach Resort is located in the middle of Grand Anse Beach in the West Indies. I have been there about 12 times and the last time was Christmas 2012 and New Year's 2013. Coyaba means "Heaven" and it truly is. The staff are what make this a special place and like family since many of them have been there for years. The food and service are outstanding. They have the best steel band on the island and you are close to public transportation to go anywhere on the island. It is the most relaxing place you can go for that special holiday to get away from it all.

Room Tip: I did not use the spa or deep sea driving but know from other comments it is will liked?. There is n...
