Nice small hotel situated in the middle of famous Grand Anse Beach with direct beach access. Clean rooms with fridge, coffeemaker, TV, AC, fan and safebox. Very friendly owner and staff (esp. Marsha at front desk). Perfect beach with (few) free beach chairs. Restaurants and a small shopping mall with supermarket (incl. a deli) and food court in a five minutes walking distance. Public transportation to St. Georges in front of the hotel. Perfect weather in January and not so many people on the island.

We stayed at the Allamanda a couple of days before our cruise and a couple of days after.
The night we arrived, we had dinner on the terrace of their restaurant. It was late, and a long wait for the curry I ordered, but when it arrived it was superb.
The ONLY complaint I have about the Allamanda is that the pool is right next to - I mean RIGHT next to, the terrace of the open-air restaurant, so if you aren't thrlled with being the main attraction when you are in your bathing suit, you might, (like me) feel uncomfortable about using the pool.
The hotel is right on the beach so you can walk right down to the water Once you leave the official property, you will see people selling bracelets, jewelry, sodas, etc. If you tell them you are not interested they will politey thank you and move on.
Our total stay at the Allamanda was about 5-6 days, and during that time we developed appreciation for their staff, who were friendly and willing to chat about their lives and aspirations with us in the late afternoon when things slowed down at the restaurant.
I wasn't happy about the pool being so small and public, but that was more than compensated by the gift of meeting Lovey and George and the other people who not only did their jobs in providing us with meals and drinks, but shared a little of their lives with us as well.
That was great.
Allamanda is a great and budget-friendly choice on Grenada -- especially if you respect and are interested in the people who are working to make sure you have a good vacation.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel recently with our daughter. We only wanted a clean basic hotel as a base to visit relatives on the island. We paid £2,300 (room only) for the holiday and paid an extra £150 for a seaview room (through virgin). The hotel was poor value for money. The pool had tiles missing. The jacuzzi was empty and full of debris. The poolside toilets were full of elfluence. The rooms were very basic with mildew on the bed spread. The coffee machine did not work. TV had very bad reception. The sunloungers were grotty and chained to the poolside. The volleyball court was overgrown and there was a dissued 'shack' on the grounds filled with old furniture. I didn't expect a palace but thought that a virgin 3*** hotel would have been better maintained given that the high season had just ended. We eventually moved to the Rex Grenadian for an extra £800 all inclusive which was a fantastic place and I have to say the Virgin rep's were really helpful. Grenada is a beautiful island and definately worth a visit.

This is a great budget hotel and on one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. The owner made us feel very welcome and our tour guide, from Virgin Holidays, was extremely helpful.

The area around the Hotel is named locally as Little Wall Street because there are 4 banks within 100 metres. Plus there was a green where the locals play cricket every afternoon. Had a nice village feel to it.

A good shopping mall across the road and a few restaurants in walking distance. The local roti shop under a large Carlsberg roof is a must..

We found some good restaurants and some bad ones. Ones to visit are Coconut Beach and the roti shop. We used the Coyoba Beach Resort next door but that varied from good to awful.

A definite one to miss is the Spice Island Resort, apparently the most expensive Hotel on the island, but the food is terrible and tiny portions. Like the nouvelle cuisine when it first was thrust on unsuspecting public.

I like the Allamanda because it was an unpretentitious aHotel and the staff there were friendly. Unlike the locals, we found it very difficult to find the friendly ones our rep refered to. I still believe St Lucia has my vote on friendly caribbeans.

The only downside I could find was the locals on the beach. There is limited natural shade on the beach and the only 2 large trees by the Hotel were occupied every day by the locals. This became a nuisance especially when the swearing started as each group under ecah tree became larger.

The restaurant on site is managed separately and whilst breakfast and lunch was fine, the music generally was not what you would expect in the Caribbean and at night the lights are dimmed to such a point that you cannot read the menu.

Plus the Hotel could do with more beach beds, but I would probably go back again.

we stayed here for the 1st 2 weeks of feb 2007..the location was fantastic..bang in the middle of grand anse beach and right next door to the coyaba resort..the allamanda has clean average rooms in a safe environment but the resort is getting a bit tired(it survived the 2004 hurricane.)whereas the coyoba next door is completely renovated..we stayed room only and had breakfast next door paying 10 us dollars for continental....if you want good value with the ability to use other hotels and restaurants locally then its a great place...the flamboyant further down the beach is really high up a steep hill whereas the allamanda is on the flat..right in the middle..much better location..over all we had a great time in grenada..this is our 7th caribbean island and a great place to visit..easy to get around..lovely food...but you may want to take an umbrella! it rains everyday but only for 15 minutes!
