“Breathtaking retreat.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2008

We had the most amazing stay at Coral Cove during our trip to Grenada this year. We stayed in a two bedroom cottage on the beach. The cottages although simple provided everything we required. There is no air con but this is not required as the ceiling fans and the breeze from the sea is enough to keep you comfortable. It was the raining season but we only got caught out once or twice and it never rained for more that a hour a day during our stay. Because of the rain though the mosies were out in force and I would strongly reccomend taking repellent both for yourself and to spray in the rooms of an evening.
In hindsight we should have hired a car during our stay but there were plenty of taxis close by.
The Beach and jetty are beautiful and on most days we had them all to ourselves. I loved to take a walk down the beach in the evening collecting the sea urchin shells before sitting on the varanda watching the fireflys and the moon shining off the water. My husband and Brotherin Law decided to take up fishing off the getty after watching some local kids catching snapper etc and although they only caugt nothing they had a great time doing it. The water is so clear and even if you don't like t snorkel there are plentyof fish to see from the surface.

We have been there with family on 3 separate occasions and each one has been a wonderful experience. The cottages' best feature has to be its placement. It right on the beach with a constant ocean breeze that blows in from the Atlantic and right through the cottages. It is also away from all the hyped up tourist attractions but close enough to be easily accessible so that you can enjoy them but still be comfortable and peaceful. There are no outside peddlers in the area. It is as the title says a peaceful paradise. We loved it and will return whenever we get the chance, and would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

We spent 10 relaxing days at Coral Cove at the beginning of May. The booking was made by phone & email and received a confirmation in the post. The week before departure requested a hire jeep for the duration of our stay and emailed a shopping list so there was food and drink in our cottage when we arrived.

Wisely took a taxi from the airport as we might have had difficulty finding it although it's only a 10 minute drive. When Olive, the housekeeper, showed us into our cottage it was spotlessly clean, there were fresh flowers on the table and the groceries we ordered were all there. Later in the evening, Damien from the office came to check with us that all was OK, having left his mother's birthday party to do so. Next morning, Y & R arrived with our Jeep and Damien helpfully suggested places to shop, places to visit and places to eat.

Coral Cove is tucked away in a quiet residential area of upmarket homes. The grounds and property are well looked after and the daily maid service is excellent, including fresh-picked flowers from the grounds every day.

The view across Mt Hartman Bay is glorious and you can lie on a lounger in the shade of a tree by the beach and watch it all day as the light changes and the tide goes up and down. The 100 yards of beach is very clean and although the very shallow water with coral and sea grass mean it's not a place for swimming, it's great for relaxing.
You can swim and snorkel off the end of the private pier although because this is the windward side of the island the water was never wonderfully calm.

Shops and restaurants are a 5-minute drive away (use the shop in the mall beside the cinema for great local fruit and veg) and you can be on Grande Anse or Aquarium Beach in 10 minutes.

If you enjoy snorkelling the trips that are run by Aquanauts from True Blue Bay hotel are good value and well run. While the real divers go off and do their thing one of the diving experts looks after the snorkellers, which is great for those without much experience and provides confidence.

We ate at the Aquarium restaurant, La Sagesse, Dodgy Dock at True Blue Bay, Garry Rhodes at Calabash Hotel, Belmont Plantation, the restaurant at the very far end of the Carenage in St Georges (can't remember the name, it's by the water) and Helvellyn House and enjoyed them all. Dodgy Dock was our favourite place for a drink at sunset - peaceful and you can look at the yachts in the bay which really is true blue.

At Coral Cove there was always a fresh breeze so that helped keep us comfortable at night and it was glorious to wake and go to sleep with the sound of the water lapping on the beach. The breeze also meant we were not troubled by mosquitoes or flies.

When we left Grenada for Carriacou on the Osprey Ferry, Y& R told us just to leave the jeep by the jetty and they would pick it up. Great service and no extra charge. Grenada has made an amazing recovery from the destruction of hurricane Ivan in 2004, so if you’ve been thinking of going there’s nothing to stop you.

Thanks to Esther, Jill, Damien and their staff. Coral Cove is great for relaxing and peace and quiet.

Stayed for a week at Coral Cove Cottages and it couldn't have been nicer. Booked via email and received airmailed confirmation (was happy with just an email!) so great for anyone who worries about not booking through big websites.

Lovely and relaxing location, right on the beach. We had one of the apartments rather than the individual cottages which was massive and lovely and clean.

Would recommend hiring a car (4x4) for exploring - the owners arranged this for us, they were extremely friendly and helpful.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2008

Just returned from CCC on a 2 week holiday over the New Year period. Bliss!
This was the most relaxing holiday we have ever had.

Tranquility: CCC is the most peaceful place you can imagine to just chill out for a week or 2. This is tucked away on its own cove with its own beach and own jetty. Totally peaceful, just listen to the waves lapping in, and at night the insects and tree frogs chirping. Day time is enhanced by the birds twittering. Not many other residents at the place so not much competition for the beach. You can easily have it to yourself. Pool is little more popular with any small families/couples.

View: The photos on their website are not flattering merely factual. In fact I think I came out with some better ones. Basically you get a beautiful view out of the cove into Mt Hartman bay, of blue water and the headland coming round. Makes you want to chill out and just enjoy it!

Staff: Very friendly and helpful - can't fault them. Cleaning is done thoroughly every morning , unless YOU want to skip a morning or come back later, for a lie in. There is a bookshelf in reception to exchange books if you are a bookworm. Staff are happy to help out where they can with advice and gave us some good tips.

Equipment: This is where CCC looses a part of a star - Kitchen has very basic utensils for a self catering. Do not expect to cook anything that can't be cooked in some very basic saucepans or frying pans and a toaster. Perfectly adequate for breakfasts and cooking things like pasta but not much more. Shower was good, and beds were comfortable and every thing worked fine. Mosquito nets would be a plus too. Most nights there is a breeze which pushes the mozzies inland but when the breeze drops you get munched to death as you don't have nets. Stay under your sheet at all costs!

Maintenance: Pool and Gardens are very well maintained as is the beach. Overall the cottage was well maintained but we had big problems with ants in the cottage. The cleaner did her best but as the cottage is a bit rustic it is near impossible to prevent the ants getting in. We had ants in the kitchen constantly and had to keep all food in the fridge and clean up religiously to keep them under control. We had ants in our wardrobe which meant we had to keep clothes in plastic bags (I think the ants didn't like plastic bags) and put ant power everywhere to stop them infesting our clothes. I lost one brand new top which had lots of holes eaten into it by the ants. Before this we had to shake out all our clothes in case they had ants in before we put them on. A big headache and this is where CCC looses its star. I know ants are part of the wildlife and the Caribbean but I feel there was more that CCC could do in the prevention measures. But they didn't spoil our time at CCC, but it would get 5 stars without the ant problem.
The Mosquito grilles on the windows are starting to decay too and could do with being replaced. I think they were doing this on some appartments already - hopefully they do on the cottages too. The mozzies also got in via some huge (4 foot by 3 inches) holes under the roof too which didn't help. Spraying each evening is the best defence.

Location: Very good for a chill out life. Not good for active clubbers or families with active children that want everything on their doorstep. You really should have a car, but if you love walking and just want to chill on the beach for the week then you could probably get by without one, with an occasional taxi!
It is a safe 25 mins walk to the nearest food/bar at Prickly bay Marina (Good bar and the best Pizza place). 35 mins walk (5 mins car) to Lanse Aux Pines with good places.

Wildlife: Quite frankly I think most guests did not notice the wildlife in CCC but there is quite a bit. Ospreys fish morning noon and sunset at the beach in CCC. Magnificent Frigate birds overhead, Crabs on the beach, Pipe fish and other fish in the sea and the coral/seaweed. Great Blue heron seen flying along the beach at about 4.30 several times. Red necked pigeons and ground doves flying through occasionally. Regular and frequent birds are tropical mocking birds and bananaquits who sometimes came in the cottage! Blue headed humming birds flitting about occasionally. We heard a night heron a few times too. Lizards and nocturnally vocal tree frogs and cicadas(bugs) are in abundance too. Lots of Ants.

Other places to see La Sagesse: lizards, humming birds, and other birds including ospreys, king birds, egrets.
Mt Hartman: Grenana dove, chicken hawk (buzzard type), Grackle.
Point salines: Smooth billed ani.
Lake at Grand Etang: Osprey, Broad winged Hawk, Mongooses, little blue heron, great blue heron.
True blue bay: egrets, herons, king birds, doves, humming birds.
Tufton Hall: Little blue heron.
Anywhere: King birds, bananquits, tropical mockingbirds, egrets on the roadside.

Dangers in Grenada: Bus drivers! That's it! (See driving section below). Other than that Grenada is very safe and friendly. All locals are chilled, respectful, friendly and willing to help, unlike some other notorious carib islands.

Toursim: Tourism is low key and not in your face. Please help keep it that way! By the Cruise port in St Georges is the busiest place and probably the place you will be most hassled as a tourist. Treat potential "leech" tour guides with respect but caution there. Elsewhere we did not find this a problem, it was just spooky (but SOOO refreshing) that everyone is so friendly.

Bus drivers - They are mental and will pull over/out without warning. Give them a very wide berth and expect the unexpected!
Using the horn. This is either a short pip or pip-pip. It can mean anything! Hello, thanks, after you, see you later, Coming through! I'm about to do something crazy!
Roads: Rent a 4WD! They are proud of the roads because apparently they used to be real bad. They still have lots of potholes and the west cost road may have half fallen into the sea on a blind corner! Don't let this put you off as getting out of the south corner is really great and you get to see the other great parts of Grenada. Just drive with respect and take it easy. If it is dark and wet, stay close to home unless you are confident.

Beach: Very quiet and tranquil, the coral is more like seaweed rather than a nature documentary. Jetty is even more tranquil. oarse golden sand with chunks of dead coral. Some small spiky black sea urchins. Birds twittering in the trees giving many shady patches overhead. There was a max of 4 people on the 200m beach - Lovely! Snorkling in the coral was OK but not great(apparently from another guest).

IMO, Good places are: Pizza place in Prickly bay marina, Lanse Aux Epines: Gaths(@ Monmots hotel), Red crab (best place to eat in LAP),. Other places: Aquarium (near airport), La Sagesse, De Big Fish (TrueBlue bay - a bit loud but good food and cocktails).
Bad places: Dodgy Dock bar - poor service, average food and loads of flies.

Weather: we went from new Year for 2 weeks. We had 2 big downpours in 2 weeks plus a few 5 minutes showers. Otherwize sun and fluffy clouds. Temp from about 24-32 degrees from night to day. Take some sun-slap and use it. The breeze at CCC (probably 15 mph on average) is a god-send and cools you off nicely. The same temperature in Prickly bay feels much hotter and more uncomfortable.

Recommend for: Couples, seniors, anyone wanting to just chill out.

Not recommend for: disabled, active families, parties, someone wanting all inclusive or everything nearby.

Best points: Chill out factor of CCC and Grenada. Food, breeze and beach at CCC. Friendliness of Grenadian people.

Bad points: Ants, hassle in St Georges, Dodgy Dock Bar.

Would we go back? You bet! To both Grenada and CCC.

A friend and I shared a 2BR/2BA cottage in October, while another couple had the 1BR cottage right next door. All of us were delighted with our choice of accommodations, and would absolutely return.

Coral Cove is located in Lance Aux Epines, a quiet residential area nearly Prickly Point. Our cottages were not fifty yards from water's edge, with an ocean view from every room. The accommodations are simple, but nicely appointed and immaculately clean. No air conditioning is present or needed, as there was always a wonderful breeze. The entire back side of the cottage is an enclosed veranda, with windows and screens running from end to end for maximum air, light, and view. The sound of the sea lulled me to sleep nightly.

The 2BR included one king, and one set of twins. There was also a rollaway bed tucked into the corner of the veranda, so you could sleep an entire family here.

The kitchen was well-equipped, including coffee maker and toaster, and the management will graciously stock your kitchen with provisions before your arrival, if you wish.

The ocean-side pool made for lovely afternoons after our mornings of scuba diving. The huge dock has shade and benches for relaxation, and steps down to the sea for swimming and snorkeling.

There are handy touches such as fresh-water showers for rinsing off the sand and salt before going into your cottage, and a clothesline right outside your kitchen door.

The king-sized bed was a little firm for my taste, but there were extra pillows (rare in such locations, in my experience), and the linens were always fresh and clean. Closet space was generous, with plenty of room for both hanging and folded clothes, and for storing luggage.

Bathrooms were large, with walk-in showers and lots of countertop and undersink storage. Water pressure was good, and the hot water supply was more than sufficient for us (larger groups might need to allow some reheat time if everyone is on the same shower schedule).

We used the room's small TV for viewing our digital photos each evening, but my friends next door also discovered the one local channel that provided some weather information and local news.

The housekeeping service at Coral Cove was probably the best I have ever encountered in my travels. Every room was immaculate, and even the dishes were washed daily.

This is not a wild party location: the cottages are quiet and serene, in an idyllic setting that feels secluded but is still convenient. We drove daily to True Blue Bay for diving, and the drive was about 15 minutes each way.

Grenada has a number of upscale, expensive resorts, but I wouldn't have traded locations. Coral Cove is a terrific value. We paid $750/week for the 2BR ( this was low-season, which runs from mid-April to mid-December).

Booking was a breeze, as I contacted Damien Noel via email after visiting Coral Cove's website. I give Coral Cove a strong recommendation, and would definitely stay there again.

I had stayed at Coral Cove two months before 'Ivan' hit the island.
I returned to Grenada on family business having booked another place to stay. It fell through and it was a good thing that I remembered Coral Cove.
The lady on the 'phone said, 'yes', you can come, we have a room'.
I arrived later, very tired and hungry and everything was ready for me. It iwas clean and very welcoming.
The maid service is superb, with fresh flowers each day. The owners/managers are like family. They attend almost every day and are very helpful and kind. They never trouble or harasss you which is excellent.
The views, ambience and location are some of the best in St Georges, if not Grenada.
I am taking my family again next year and whenever I visit Grenada, Coral Cove is always the first place on my list to stay.
