“The Absolute Best Place To Stay In St. George's, Grenada!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

My husband and I would like to thank you all at the Flamboyant Hotel for providing such an excellent environment for us to enjoy and experience Grenada and its' people last week! The hotel is the perfect place for relaxing on the beach, in our room, on our terrace or in the bar. Your staff were extremely friendly and helpful to us ... And we left there with new friends and fantastic memories of your beautiful island. It is truly a slice of heaven on earth! We would especially like to thank Neron, Leandra and Otis (with security) for being such great employees who went out of their way to ensure that our time spent in the bar and on the beach was truly memorable! We will be sure to tell everyone we know about your fantastic hotel & location! God willing, we will come back to the Flamboyant Hotel on one of our next vacations ... Thank you again!

Room Tip: We had a room on the ground floor in the 'Macarena' building and it was fantastic! You may f...

Grenada was a lovely, friendly island to spend Christmas on. The hotel itself was unfortunately not amazing - accommodation does not quite match the pictures and there's quite a hike between the hotels rooms, the restaurants / pools and the beach (which is beautiful, but watch the sandflies). The staff were very friendly and while the food was quite average the roti wraps were fantastic. The pool deck is lovely and there are some hotel turtles that were good entertainment every time. There is a nice day tour to do around the island and some good local scuba diving to break up a beach holiday.

We returned for a second visit to the Flamboyant this January. We have never returned to the same hotel previously. The staff were just as wonderful as on our trip last year and it was lovely to see them and some new faces too.

This time we stayed in room 339, which was not quite as big as 338 where we stayed last year. This was (if required) a communicating room and we could hear our neighbours quite clearly when we were on our balcony. It would seem that fewer guests were A.I. this year, though we managed to secure a great deal by booking through Expedia and the Hotel sent a driver to collect us from the Airport, so we did go A.I. I would recommend this way of booking as we saved a lot of money rather than booking the holiday as a package deal.

The breakfast this year was mostly served in the main dining room and was very enjoyable. During our trip the hotel were extending the beach restaurant, which was used for lunchtime and this year for dinner. The lunch time menu was very repetiive and the service was slow in comparison to dinner. I enjoyed the ambience of the main dining room for dinner last year and guests did not come to dinner in beach attire! The worst problem was the Owl Bar, which last year did not matter as we were in the Dining Room. As other reviewers have said, The Owl Bar is not just for hotel guests and was often very busy and noisy whilst we were at Dinner and the music and tv sports noise was intrusive. The service at Dinner was excellent but the quality of the food was not as good as last year. All the soups were delicious and the presentation was nice but I was very disappointed in some of my main courses. People were also having problems with sand flies and mosquitoes at the beach restaurant, so do take plenty of tropical insect spray. If this change of evening dining is made permanent, the Owl Bar needs a face lift.. or they should staff and open the pool bar exclusively for the guests perhaps? I have not yet seen the pool bar open, which is a shame as the pool was very welcome when the red flag was up!

The Morne Rouge beach now has the rum punch boat sailing in from the Cruise Ships almost every day and there were several noisy bars which were not there last year, which rather spoilt the solititude which we loved last year! We were very glad that the did not come across to Great Anse Beach!

As before, the hotel,s charm is its location, staff and views. The bathrooms are still very tired, though the housekeeping team do an excellent job. The hotel is also used for business conferences and the pool is used for swimming lessons and by the dive grenada for practices.. none of which detracts from your holiday but I would not go A.I whilst the dining is on the beach unless the Owl Bar format is changed in some way.

We met some charming people and had a lovely holiday but felt the new dining arrangements were not quite working for us and we much preferred our experience last year. I shall keep watching reports on trip advisor and see what other return guests think. The hotel has an excellent management team and I am confident that they will get the formula right.

We had the pleasure of spending ten days at the Flamboyant Hotel in late January 2013. We came at the strong recommendation of Swiss friends who have spent their winters here for decades. For me, the main attraction was the hotel’s location, and I was not disappointed on that count. Our terrace offered sweeping views over the whole length of magnificent Grand Anse Beach; the picturesque capital of St. George’s and its surroundings; the open Caribbean Sea; lush rolling hills to the east; and the dramatic mountains of the Grand Etang region. Sitting on the terrace, drinking a coffee or a rum punch, we enjoyed watching the rise of the sun and the full moon, in perfect privacy. Located on a ridge between two bays, the hotel affords easy walking access to two of the best beaches on the island: The hotel sits above the quiet, southern end of the 3-km-long Grand Anse Beach, and there is the smaller, more intimate Morne Rouge Beach on the other side, with calmer waters. The hotel also offers ample, easy, and free parking (we got a rental car).

While the locations was the main allure of the hotel for us, the other features are good, but not outstanding. The rooms are large, clean, and well appointed, but I would perhaps wish for a bit more authenticity and island charm. It feels too much like a chain hotel in Florida! The service is adequate, but it can be s-l-o-w and less than thorough. One example: The room rate includes “free wireless”, but as we arrived we had no connection. They eventually sent a technician over to “look into it”. He was able to connect us, sort of, but the connection was unstable throughout our stay, resulting in many hours of wasted time that I would rather have spent at the beach or in a fine restaurant. Sadly perhaps, many of us need to stay connected to the “home front” nowadays.

Still, we were happy overall, and we hope to return to the Flamboyant next winter, God willing. We checked out a few other hotels during our stay, and they don’t even come close when it comes to views or beach access.

My husband and I just got back from a one week stay in Grenada, at The Flamboyant.

We were in the Merengue block, which is a bit higher up on the hill. We used the golf cart when we arrived and when we left for help with our luggage, but otherwise we took the stairs to get some exercise! It could get a bit tough in the heat of midday, but again, there's always the golf cart.

Our room was the most basic type, but it was still fairly big and we had a huge king bed. I was very happy to find that we had a good sized fridge, along with a can opener, kettle, etc. The air conditioning worked amazingly well. Each room has it's own little balcony with two chairs, a table, and a lounger. We ate our breakfast out there every day and loved watching the boats, the cruise ships, and just enjoying the peace and the view. The only downside to the room was that the bathroom was a little bit tired and could use a bit of a reno. Everything worked well, though. The reviewer below me mentioned that the road is "extremely busy and noisy" and I have NO idea where they got that from. The roads around the island can be hectic, but The Flamboyant is in a very quiet spot and I never heard any noise from the road at all. The most noise I heard was from the tree frogs and the cruise ships tooting their horns and the end of the day.

The Flamboyant is located on the most southern end of Grand Anse Beach. This means you have a spectacular view of the whole beach and of St. George's climbing up the hillside across the water. It also means that this part of the beach is very quiet and secluded as it is the furthest away from town and the cruise ship passengers. We almost felt like we had our own private beach. There were only a handful of (the same) people there each day. It is also a great starting point for long walks from one end of the beach to the other. This also means that Morne Rouge beach is only about a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. There are beach towels available at the front desk.

All of the staff we dealt with were friendly and competent. No issues there. Everyone we walked by, from the front desk staff to the housekeeping staff to the groundskeepers always said hello or good morning.

We had breakfast at the hotel once, but then opted to buy or own groceries from the IGA down the road to save on a bit of cash and have the flexibility of eating on our balcony. We ate at The Owl twice and the food wasn't anything special, but it will do if you're lounging on the beach and don't want to go anywhere else for lunch. Make sure to check out the crab races on Monday nights!

Grenada is very beautiful and peaceful. I am so glad we traveled there and I will recommend it to everyone I know. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at The Flamboyant again as the location is perfect and the price is right.

Room Tip: Higher up rooms have a better view but, of course, have more stairs to climb to get there.

We had booked this knowing it was a 3 star budget hotel, and it had some really good points and quite a few minuses! We wanted a quick break away for one week over New Year, and with 4 holidays under our belt already, we didn't want to spend too much, and we wanted a Dive shop on site.
The Flamboyant tumbles down a hillside; their beach was fabulous, at the end of a point at the end of Grand Anse, so very quiet with nice rocks round the point for snorkelling. The Dive shop - Dive Grenada - was next door so very convenient, and hats off to Dive Grenada for great staff, great kit and some really great dives - a lovely bunch of people. The big minus for the beach though, was that the sun goes down behind their hill at 4.30pm, so, for what is my favourite time of day for sitting on the beach getting some sun, it was useless. I had to walk quarter of a mile almost to the Spice Island resort, to get some late afternoon sun.

The rooms were very dated, but huge! We liked having a fridge and freezer, the air conditioning worked brilliantly, and wifi is free (and works well due to there being 2 giant masts outside the rooms - we felt like we were being showered with radiation constantly!!) but there was never any hot water in the mornings - only in the evenings, the balcony furniture is cheap plastic, and whilst there is a great view of the bay and St.Georges, the road separating the rooms from the pool and beach is extremely busy and noisy and completely ruins the view.

We only had bed and breakfast - breakfast just about ok, you have to pay extra if you want hot food like eggs and bacon, and there is no butter. If you ask for some, they give you 2 little curls of margarine - very very strange. The beach restaurant food is not too bad, and the setting is lovely by the almond trees, but be warned that it takes at least an hour for a sandwich or burger to arrive, so order then go and read your book for an hour!

By the Way, the Owl Bar is an absolute dive - dirty, dark and very badly staffed - you couldn't pay me to sit in there! Get a drink and go sit on the beach.

Basically we used the Flamboyant as a bed and breakfast, going out every day for lunches and dinners and to visit the rain forest and the coast, and go scuba diving. The island is NOT great for food - best places to eat are The Calabash, Umbrellas (for cheap food) and also Mount Cinnamon next door to the Flamboyant is excellent. We spent New Year's Eve at the Beach House Restaurant, very expensive like The Calabash, and beautiful setting, but again the food was hugely disappointing.

Get a car and travel into the rain forest, the roads are terrifying - but the forest is stunning and wild.

This is the 7th island we have been to in the Caribbean. My real advice is, don't go to Grenada unless you can afford the best if you want a good view, great food and luxury. La Luna, The Calabash and Spice Island are all beautiful but 2-3 times the price of the Flamboyant.

Would we go back? No. Not to Grenada and not to The Flamboyant. But all in all, we had a great week travelling the island and have no regrets.

Room Tip: No tips - they are all big and kitchenettes are useful, but they are all dated. But try and get one...
