“our feelings about blue horizons and grenada”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

Hi
We have just returned from a 15 day trip to Grenada
we stayed at the blue horizons garden resort and loved every minute of it
on arrival our heavy bag was taken from the cab to our apt we were in number 4 and it was clean and tidy close to the pool and restaurant .
We felt totally safe at all times the grounds are permanently patrolled by a security guard and they do their job well ours soon ejected a sponsorship scammer who was reported to him.
on the second night the aircon broke down at about 8pm and after a call to reception it was fixed within the hour.
All the staff there are helpful and friendly and Mr Hopkin the boss is never very far away
The grounds are very well kept and the pool bar and area around it is very clean and tidy.
It is a short walk past the police station and through sister resort Spice Island to the beautiful white sand grand anse beach where you can use the sun loungers with brown cushions on them but not the blue cushions the blue ones are reserved for spice island guests
The sea is crystal clear and warm and very safe to swim in there is a permanent lifeguard station halfway along it and not very far out are some reefs that have some brightly coloured fish about them.
Whilst we were swimming a spotted eagle ray swam right by us and gave us an amazing display of its beauty .
There are a number of sellers who travel up and down the beach but they are all very polite and a firm no thank you will get you an ok have a nice holiday reply.
A short walk past the small shopping centre up to the roundabout where you can catch a no1 bus into St Georges We went up to the fort there and were guided around by a really nice person who was full of information about Grenada and it was freely given.
Those who like shopping may get a little disappointed there are not many malls there and the ones that are have lots of empty shops in them their economy is suffering badly we think
As in my review of Antigua I strongly advise anyone going there to source some Bens 100 insect repellent my wife was bitten badly on the second night when she sat outside waiting for the aircon man and she forgot to spray with bens in all the 15 days there I was bitten once on my elbow so that says a lot for the product and some other people on the island we spoke to had other types and were still being bitten.
best value for money eatery was the umbrellas beach bar
best food I ate was at the dodgy dock
best cocktail I had was a mudslide at blue horizons
worst eating atmosphere I had was at surprisingly the aquarium and it really wasn't that bad at all it just didn't suit me.
We were made very welcome at the blue horizons and would certainly stay again

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms here and if you are not happy just see Annemarie and she will move mountains...

Positives:
- Probably the best view of any hotel on Grand Anse. They kindly gave us a brilliant room, and we could see all the way over Grand Anse to St George. Watching the sun set on the balcony was lovely
- Surroundings are very pretty, lots of greenery and palm trees
- Very close to the beach, you walk 2 minutes and there is Grand Anse, a stunning beach
- The pool was very nice, warm and clean, with a very smart area for lounging in the sun
- Their preferred taxi driver, Bruno, is a really cool guy
- Great a/c
- Near the Spice Island Mall, for groceries/bottled water

Drawbacks:
- Terrible shower, no temperature control whatsoever. Boiling hot one minute, freezing the next
- Cracked floor of bath, needs to be fixed
- Very dated decor, which you sort of like but sort of don't (it's quite strange, but fine; you don't spend a lot of time in your room given the beach and the weather!)

In short, check your room has a decent shower, but it's almost worth the sacrifice for the best view on the beach!

Blue Horizons is not a pristine,All-Inclusive,elegant expensive beach resort and that's exactly why we liked this property.
Tucked away a short walk from the beach and hidden amongst palm tress and lush vegetation it's peaceful and quiet.
Management kindly upgraded us to a superior room with sea views - plenty of room with a small kitchen area and a great balcony.
It's slightly dated with a noisy and leaking A/C unit and the bare minimum of utensils in the kitchen with no cleaning products or cloths but this didn't affect our overall impression of Room 20 which was very positive.
A big plus was the use of facilities at the much swankier Spice Island Beach Resort, namely a good computer room with free internet, a pool and sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach.
We didn't use the pool which looked okay but quiet and only had breakfast once which was fine.
Overall we enjoyed Blue Horizons very much - the staff are friendly and helpful without being intrusive - and it represented excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Higher is better

The rooms are spotlessly clean and have nice balconies. The staff is very attentive and always helpful. We mostly ate out but there are kitchenettes in the rooms that are fully equiped. We stayed in room 18. A few stairs but near the pool and away from any noise.

We just spent a relaxing 11 nights at the Blue Horizons Garden Resort. We opted for a B&B option, and would recommend the tasty nutmeg and cinnamon pancakes and fruit plate. Staff at breakfast were friendly, but depending who was working, sometimes the service could be a little slow and/or things got forgotten.
The accommodation was very comfortable and spacious, and was cleaned every day. It was very useful to have a kitchen area, as when we weren't exploring the island, we could come back and have lunch under the shade of the veranda (the nearby supermarket is quite expensive, as we found food to generally be). There were loads of birds in the garden to watch, including the apparently elusive dove - which we saw quite a lot of! The only downside of not having the kitchen in a separate room, was the fridge could be rather noisy at night.
The pool area was often quiet and a nice fruit punch could be bought from the poolside bar! There was a BBQ there, but we never saw it used - it would have been a nice option one evening or weekend lunchtime.
We ate at the hotel's restaurant on two evenings - the food was good and compared to other hotel restaurants in the area, more reasonably priced.
Grand Anse beach is a short walk away, and is lovely and very uncrowded. We very much enjoyed Umbrellas for tasty, reasonably priced 'bar food' which is just along the beach.
The hotel organised 4 day car hire and we would recommend exploring the island - particularly the East coast and the national park.
A thoroughly enjoyable stay, and we would definitely recommend it to others.

This is a more pricey place to stay in Grenada, BUT, the grounds are beautiful and the rooms are very nice, with nice patios! The pool is beautiful, the restaurant, very nice! I thought from the ad for the blue horizon, you are closer to the beach, but it isn't a bad walk. It is located close to the Mall, and IGA grocery store to get supplies. We liked it!
It was our 35th anniversary and when we arrived they had the most beautiful island flowers for us! THANK YOU! They also gave us a complimentary dinner! The staff here goes above and beyond to make it a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: If you want closest walk to the grand anse beach ask for a room above the police department!
