“A great place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

We just spent a relaxing 11 nights at the Blue Horizons Garden Resort. We opted for a B&B option, and would recommend the tasty nutmeg and cinnamon pancakes and fruit plate. Staff at breakfast were friendly, but depending who was working, sometimes the service could be a little slow and/or things got forgotten.
The accommodation was very comfortable and spacious, and was cleaned every day. It was very useful to have a kitchen area, as when we weren't exploring the island, we could come back and have lunch under the shade of the veranda (the nearby supermarket is quite expensive, as we found food to generally be). There were loads of birds in the garden to watch, including the apparently elusive dove - which we saw quite a lot of! The only downside of not having the kitchen in a separate room, was the fridge could be rather noisy at night.
The pool area was often quiet and a nice fruit punch could be bought from the poolside bar! There was a BBQ there, but we never saw it used - it would have been a nice option one evening or weekend lunchtime.
We ate at the hotel's restaurant on two evenings - the food was good and compared to other hotel restaurants in the area, more reasonably priced.
Grand Anse beach is a short walk away, and is lovely and very uncrowded. We very much enjoyed Umbrellas for tasty, reasonably priced 'bar food' which is just along the beach.
The hotel organised 4 day car hire and we would recommend exploring the island - particularly the East coast and the national park.
A thoroughly enjoyable stay, and we would definitely recommend it to others.

This is a more pricey place to stay in Grenada, BUT, the grounds are beautiful and the rooms are very nice, with nice patios! The pool is beautiful, the restaurant, very nice! I thought from the ad for the blue horizon, you are closer to the beach, but it isn't a bad walk. It is located close to the Mall, and IGA grocery store to get supplies. We liked it!
It was our 35th anniversary and when we arrived they had the most beautiful island flowers for us! THANK YOU! They also gave us a complimentary dinner! The staff here goes above and beyond to make it a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: If you want closest walk to the grand anse beach ask for a room above the police department!

We chose this resort for the layout i.e. bungalows scattered throughout the tropical gardens, because we wanted peace and relaxation and that is certainly what we got.

We stayed in No. 13 !! which was a deluxe suite, with enormous bed and very well appointed. There are facilities for self catering but we chose to eat in the restaurant. Our accommodation was in an elevated position, which we liked and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony first thing in the morning and having drinks there when we returned at the end of the day.

It seems that most people who stayed here were self catering because the most people in the restaurant at any time was ten. Breakfasts were delicious. Fresh fruit plates to be recommended. Pancakes with nutmeg syrup with perfectly cooked bacon on the side a 'must have'. There was a good choice for evening meals and the view from the restaurant was special.

The staff were always very friendly and helpful.

The entire island is unspoilt and not at all 'touristy'. The beautiful Grand Anse beach is five minutes walk away and comparatively deserted. We accessed it via the Spice Island resort, who provided us with loungers.

The area round the swimming pool was also very quiet and not used a great deal.

If you are wanting to have a truly relaxing holiday in a little bit of paradise this is the place to go.

Would recommend taking the organised tour round the island which was extremely interesting and informative - particularly the Rivers rum distillery. Quite and eye opener to say the least. Make your own way into town using the local transport which is efficient and cheap.

Downside? Because of the location of this resort, it should be pointed out that there are several steps up to the restaurant (about 30 on two levels) and some of the accommodation is elevated with a lot of steps. For us it was not a problem but rather added to the privacy. Service in the restaurant was often slow - more so in the evening but everything else was perfect.

We would definitely recommend this resort and this island.

Room Tip: Ask for accommodation on a lower level if you have fitness/mobility problems

We stayed here in late February for 11 nights. Our first reaction to our accomodation was that it is quite shabby and dated. The kitchen area is very basic and the sliding wardrobes kept coming off their rails and plug in the basin wouldn't stay in but the place grew on us very quickly. The staff were lovely and gave great service. The restaurant was good. The whole resort is spotlessly clean and it is in a great spot. Access to the beautiful beach via Spice Island resort was perfect and it gave me a buzz that we were lying on loungers on the beach near to Spice Island guests that were paying four times what we were albeit theirs was all inclusive. We had the benefit of eating out in a variety of great restaurants on the island which were mostly very good value. An easy and safe place to have a holiday. Highly recommended.

In February 2013, we returned to Blue Horizons for our fourth visit. Due to a snowstorm in Toronto, we were delayed and didn't arrive till after 11pm so we were just given our room key and advised to check in next morning. When we checked in and when we went for breakfast, we were given hugs and welcomed back after a 4 year absence. The most important feature of the hotel is the staff and their caring attitude.
We stayed in a one-bedroom suite with a balcony with a marvellous view of Grande Anse beach literally minutes away. It was great each morning to take our breakfast out to the balcony and sit enjoy the nice warm fresh air, say hello to friendly birds who called in to visit and we put "winter" out our minds. The suite had a kitchenette (stove, sink, fridge, coffee maker and toaster) sufficient to let us make our own breakfasts and light meals and snacks. The suite consisted of a lounge area to sit and read or watch TV (including local TV for weather and news, some US networks, BBC World News (the best for news), CNN and now the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's main channel). The bedroom was spacious and had good drawer and hanging space - with plenty of hangers). The maid looked after us well.
The suite was air conditioned with a celing fan so was very comfortable.
The hotel is set in a lovely garden aea with a beautiful quiet pool (only complaint not enough cushions for all the loungers), with loungers, tables and chairs. The restaurant overlooks the gardens and provides breakfasts and dinners - the food was good. No matter where we came across the staff, they were always so pleasant and helpful.
The beach was a mere 5 minutes walk away across the street and through the sister Spice Isle hotel right onto the beach. We walked the beach about half our stay - good walk as it is 2 miles long but beer stops alond the way are very inviting. The grocery supermarket is just 7 minutes walk away for us to get foodstuffs for making some meals.
To get the bus to the city of St George's we walked past the shopping mall and got a minibus for only $2.50 EC - it's exciting and a good experience and we enkoyed going through the market looking for spices.
There a several restaurants within walking distance - from a pizza place to elegant dining.
There is no fitness centre - but there is no need for one with swimming and walking the beach easily available.

This resort was an unexpected delight. We arrived after dark and couldn't see much around the resort grounds, but upon opening the door to the apartment, we were surprised at how large it was, as well as how immaculate things were kept. When the sun came up the next morning, the view of the gardens as well as the view of the Great Anse Bay was terrific. The restaurant had fantastic breakfast food - especially the cinnamon and nutmeg pancakes! As far as the location, we found things here to be very convenient for a leisurely stroll to wherever you needed to go. The grocery store is about a 3 minute walk away, and the beach about 5 minutes. The pool and bar/restaurant was nice and quiet, so it was easy to nap in the warm sunshine. It felt very safe here - lots of evidence of security - as well as the police station just across the street. We would definitely visit again!

This was my second stay at Blue Horizons. The suites with living room/kitchen/breakfast nook, large bedroom, bath and deck are very comfortable and well appointed. The staff is friendly, professional and eager to help. It is one block walk to the beach, as well as to a supermarket down the road and scuba diving pickup. With beautiful grounds filled with palm trees, flowering shrubs and birds. I highly recommend it.
