“Idyllic surroundings with beach location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2009

The hotel is very much boutique style with 64 suites and a health spa. First impressions came with the genuinely warm welcome we received on arrival followed by the walk through the beautiful gardens to our Seagrape beachfront suite. The suite itself was one of the largest we have encountered in our travels and was immaculate with extremely effective airconditioning if required. Each suite came with two sunbeds and a hammock, negating any rush round to find spare ones, complimeted by a super vista of the sea and beach. There were additional sunshades and beds along the beach which were generally free when the benefit of the soothing Caribbean breeze was required! Only one small criticism here was that the privacy hedging between adjoining beach suites was a little sparse but with occupancy around only 50% due to global economic stress this was not a big issue, however.

The sandy beach is of high quality but not all of the 2.5 miles length looks as attractive as the southern end of the beach where Spice Island is located. Further up the beach is part of the campus of St George's Uni along with a rather questionable massage parlour. That said this didn't impact on our enjoyment. One point to bear in mind all beaches are public and as such one encounters beach hawkers although they are not persistent given the high profile security presence along the beach.

The is a secluded swimming pool area which looks particularly attractive although we tended to confine ourself to the beach. It must be said that during our stay the sea was a little rough for some of the time rendering it little unsuitable for small children.

Ours was and all inclusive package for a fortnight and the quality of the food was extremely high as was the generosity in pouring drinks when required! Breakfast and lunch was very informal although dinner was slightly more formal (smart-casual) but we like that atmosphere.

Despite the slow nature of travel to top end market holiday destinations the management of Spice Island Resort and adamant that the high standards they set will not be compromised in search of high density occupancy .

Indeed the highlight of our stay was the invite to Spice Island owner Sir Royston Hopkin's magnificent house at True Blue point for a cocktail party to watch the sunset at the bottom of his back garden!

All in all a great holiday destinations whereby by and large all the staff worked hard to provide us with an extremely enjoyable holiday.

My fiance' and I had a terrific visit March 7-14,2009. The place is gorgeous and the staff extremely friendly, helpful and courteous. Our ice bucket was never empty. Room service promptly delivered a hot breakfast for us to enjoy on our balconey each morning. All the restaurant meals were delicious. We had the all-inclusive package, which I recommend. Even the minibar was included as were brand drinks! The rooms were very clean and well kept. In my 15 years of traveling the Carribean, Spice Island is definitely the best overall! The affiliated dive operator, Aquanauts, was top-notch too!

We actually went to this hotel the christmas before and we loved it so much we cancelled our holiday plans for this year and booked this hotel again, the staff are so friendly and everyone on the island are welcoming. There isn't many shops but there are some great trips, and the food at the hotel is absolutley 1st class! Our teenage daughter had a fantastic time and is bugging us to go back again next year because she loves Grenada and especially Spice Island Beach Resort!

We have just returned from a wonderful week at this hotel. This was our second visit and we were not disappointed.
We stayed in the entry-level room grade which is perfectly fine. Infact we liked this room as we were on the first floor and had an ocean view together with a great deal of privacy.
The service was exemplary with all staff addressing us by name.
Both my husband and I couldn't fault the food. People have commented that they found the food too fussy but this is nit-picking. Guests have the opportunity to request an alternative if they don't fancy the menu which is available from breakfast time.
The location on Grand Anse is perfect although the sea can be a bit lively at this spot.
We had a lovely week which really wasn't quite long enough.......maybe next time.........

The Spice Island Beach Resort was just the perfect place for our honeymoon. My new husband had booked an Almond Pool Suite which was private and absolutely smashing! I can only tell you that I wanted to take the bed home it was so comfy and the double jacuzzi bath was fun. We had a huge bathroom and I loved the Molton Brown toiletries. Our suite was serviced superbly. We were made to feel really special and particularly liked the early evening hors d'ouvres which were delivered to our room. It was also amazing that room service was available at any time at no extra cost. Hot food was actually hot when it arrived and the table/food was set out for us. We were telephoned when it was on it's way too and it was never more than 30 mins. The food was always first class. Everyone of the staff were so friendly and professional, most greeted us by name. We hired a driver to take us for a day of the island. This was much better than going on an organised trip. The evenings were very low key but this suited us fine. I would not take my children there but do hope that one day we will return. It was magical and I cried when leaving to go home!

We stayed at the Spice Island resort in July 2008 for one week as part of our honeymoon. The entrance to the hotel was not quite as grand as I imagined but on arrival our luggage was taken and we were given cold towels to freshen up with and a welcome drink. We checked in and were shown around the hotel and told about the facilities then taken to our room which was a Seagrape Suite. Once inside the hotel it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere and it is beautifully constructed and laid out with colourful flowers and meandering paths.

The setting of our suite was beautiful, outside the room there is a covered seating area then a patio with hammock and sunbeds then straight onto the beach. The view at sunset was lovely. The room was immaculate, a huge bed which was so comfortable! A seating area with tv and minibar which was restocked every day and included in the AI price. The bathroom has twin sinks, jacuzzi bath and separate shower. Molton Brown toiletries are supplied and replaced as used. On a night there is turndown service and the maid sprays 'sleep spray' on your pillows which smelled divine and also sprays for bugs.

Every day we sunbathed on the beach and this was almost deserted, it is a long public beach and you get the odd local selling sarongs etc but they do not hassle you. The water was lovely and clear and mainly calm.

Dinner in the restaurant was amazing! It is fine dining but not overly fussy and we looked forward to the evening meals very much. Service was good and they were always topping your glass up with wine. I cannot understand previous reviewers who didn't think the food was up to much, it was fantastic and a very good choice.

Lunch was also very good with the menu changing once a week but always plenty of choice and one day there was a BBQ. Breakfasts were excellent with the best omelettes we have ever had!

One evening we were invited to Sir Royston's villa in True Bay for cocktails and canapes in the garden. This was a lovely evening, meeting fellow guests and enjoying the sunset from the garden overlooking the ocean.

We only ventured out of the hotel one day, into St George's which was very busy but there didn't seem a lot to do, parts of it were quite run down. Weather was a bit mixed in July, as expected, with some torrential rain and lightning/thunder but glorious sunshine for the main.

We even saw a couple of celebrities staying in the hotel - Heather Small from M People and Carla from Coronation Street!

Overall we had a great time here and would love to return one day.

This hotel takes chilling and service to another level...the food (al inclusive) is superb and the service with a smile is the best ever.

I have stayed in hotels and resorts globally and for luxury, comfort, chilling and cuisine this is the best.

From breakfast with freshly cooked service and fruit buffet...through lunch ..fish from heaven and dinner in delightful ambience and tremendous service.....

The beach is clean, security always close ..though no sense of any problems...sea is sublime...... huge star fish and shoals of fish to observe....

The Spa is excellent and truly professional....

Tennis courts great...........

Of course this isn't a hotel if you want a bargain....but quality ..oh yes!

Everything is based arounf the local culture including all the very fresh produce.. environment friendly and broadband free ..what more could you ask.
