“A wonderful return visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2011

My wife and I recently returned to the Spice Island, having been here 2 years recently. All I can say is that second time round even surpassed our first visit and believe me that's a big ask! Soon as we arrived Ryan, the owners son welcomed us back. Although this was a lovely touch, we were equally taken back by how many of the other staff remembered us. Incidently, virtually all the same staff were still there, always a good sign. After a quick, agony free check in we were shown our room and a pleasent suprise was that they put us in the same one we stayed in 2 years ago. It was one of the sea grape suites that we so enjoed last time around.
Later that evening we went to dinner at Olivers and we were very pleased to see that the standards had not slipped at all. The service was very attentive and all the staff were very helpful and responsive. Unsurprisingly the majority of the people staying at the hotel were repeat visitors who like us, were already planning for future visits. Unfortunately, our short (too short!!) stay (only one week, we had to be back for our son's birthday, by the way he was jealous he could not be with us this time) was over but as we left virtually all of the owner's family came out to say goodbye. I am already missing spice, but my wife and I are planning to spend our 30th wedding anniversary there in 2 years time.

Just returned from a week at SIBR (last time we visited was 8 years ago) and after having spent the past 40 years travelling all over the World for business and pleasure I have to say that Spice Island is now one of my top three hotels in the World. The other two, for comparison purposes, are The Sandpiper Inn (Barbados) and The Goring Hotel (London). Spice Island is indisputably in that lofty company.
Every single thing about the hotel (and remember it also has a natural head-start with that wonderful beachfront) is perfect. I would also like to single out the high standard of the food... it was like eating at a top London restaurant (only with friendlier service!) and the improvement since 2003 is amazing.
Well done Sir Royston and we'll be back next February!!

We stayed 11 to 23 February 2011 and we had a brilliantly peacefull holiday. This is a family run hotel and the staff cannot do enough for you, they are wonderful and the food is absolutely top notch. We will definately be going back.
10 US$ for a beer is a lot OTT though!

We'd really have to think hard to come up with anything they could have done better; it was that great, and we are very discerning travelers.

We are in our late fifties and have been to the Caribbean fourteen times for week long stays. We came home from a week at the Spice Island Beach Resort so relaxed, that we are looking forward to a return visit. It is a magnificent place to stay on a gorgeous, friendly, and safe island.

The hotel is located on a beautiful public beach that feels very private. Service was spectacular; on par with the Ritz but friendlier. We were on the all-inclusive meal plan, which included: room service at no extra charge, gourmet meals, vegetarian options, lighter fare, all beverages 24-7 including top shelf brands. If you wanted anything, all you had to do was ask. The meals were exquisite.

Our spa experience was excellent; very clean with professional staff; the pool was one of the nicest designs; lots of privacy, yet plenty of room to swim laps. The beach was right outside our door, so after swimming we could relax on our flagstone patio or our covered porch. The hotel thought of everything, even putting a water basin outside our room so we could dip our feet in and not bring sand in the room.

The staff is friendly yet very service oriented. They know that their job is to provide you with the highest level of service and they do so with pride. What an enjoyable vacation this was; kudos to the management.

perfect in all sorts of ways - location at the quiet end of grande anse, food excellent service helpful and friendly, room comfortable, only 10 minutes from the airport. We were in an almond villa with its own pool but next time I think we would go for the sea grape type which is right on the beach. Perfect for 10 days away from the UK weather. The island itself is good for a couple of day trips. We used the same taxi driver who brought us from the airport for a drive round the island which was excellent.

i have just returned from a fantastic holiday at SIBR. it is very difficult to fault this place.
the location is wonderful on Grand Anse Beach, the hotel itself is very very nice without being over the top, reception/bar/restuarnat areas are modern/airy/tasteful/well maintained. the rooms alsovery nice, large comfortable(we had sea grape) - best beds you will find in a hotel. Food was great, form breakfast to lunch to dinner - dont go here to diet. main dinner menu was quite' rich' which was great for the adults but too fancy for my younger kids - thechef was very happy to make the whatever they wanted which was really fantastic - chicken / pizza / nothing was a problem.
during the day there is loads to do if you want, scuba/sailing/snorkelling etc all available right on the beach. in the evening the hotel is very quiet, there is a band every night but the bar is pretty much deserted by 10-30 si if your lookingf for nightlife this isnt the place.
i thought it might be quiet for my 4 kids (19 -11) but they loved it.
the only other small negative is the beach is narrow at the southern end and although our sea grape suites opened right onto the beach, there wasnt a lot of space and we ended up on the public beach to sunbathe. i would recomend you specify a low numbered sea grape suite which have huge areas of beach- north end of the beach - we had numbers 46 & 47.
i highly recomend this place and we will go back

Stayed at the Spice Island Resort for one night and it was way too short. Overall is was an excellent, first class resort. There was great attention to detail in every amenity at the resort. The suite was very private, luxurious and with its own pool. The food and service were world class. Definitely would return.
