“The Fort is good to take a panoramic view”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

Fort George is located at the top of a hill where you can take a nice panoramic view picture with you as a main character To arrive by walking one has to climb up the hill. Of course, you may hire a taxi, but still have to climb some steps.Once you are inside the Fort is very rundown and the police quarter function inside the Fort, there is not much to explore or see after the pic. Advise: bring along walking very comfortable shoes, because the whole island is hilly

“Great views”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

It is now the Police station. We read from our guide book to learn about the fort. It would have been nice to have some posted boards explaining the history. The views were wonderful from the top.

“Best view of the town, and redolent of Grenada's history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

We go there often; the view of the town is incredible, and perfect for photographers. You cannot help but ‘feel’ the fort’s history, both distant and more recent. In 1979 the ‘People's Revolutionary Government of Grenada,’ under the leadership of Maurice Bishop, overthrew Eric Gairy’s ‘Grenada United Labour Party.’ On 19.10.1983 Maurice Bishop was executed at the fort together with seven others, including cabinet ministers and local businessmen. Lined up against a wall facing the courtyard, they were shot. Among them was Bishop’s long term partner, who was allegedly 8 months pregnant with his child. That day many civilians, including children, were tragically killed at the fort. Beside an incongruous basket ball net, today the bullet holes are clearly visible in the wall. Visitors to the fort will be inspired to read more about Grenada’s fascinating history.

“Alot of history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

Very interesting fort. The police station is located in and around the fort, but it doesn't interfere with your walking tour. Some locals will offer to take you through the fort, it's your call whether you agree to it, but there are pamphlets and official tours guides available top. You can still see the holding cells where they held the PM and staff before executing him which later prempted the US intervention. Bullet holes from the execution are still clear as day in the forts interior wall next to a memorial plaque. Very nice views of the surrounding area with good breezes too. Be careful walking in some of the areas as part of the ground could give way if you're not careful. The sun really beats down on you too, so be sure to wear sunscreen and hats. Worth a look.
