There were 8 of us. We sailed into Grenada aboard the S/V Windspirit. We came onto the island and hired a local area guide to give us a day trip to see the sights, one of which was the River Antoine Rum Distillery. There is a $2 US entry fee. It was worth $2, but perhaps not much more. The entry fee buys one a guided tour of the property. At the time of our visit, the distillery was not active. This distillery exists pretty much as it has since its inception. There is very little modern equipment. There is a bottling machine...for one bottle at a time. The caps are screwed on manually. Frankly, the process looks unsanitary. At the end of the tour we were offered a sample of Rivers Rum. Not particularly smooth, but certainly strong. We skipped the 150 proof version. If you find yourself in the neighborhood, this attraction may be worth visiting, but only if. I believe that there are other rum distilleries on the island. Perhaps one of them would be a better bet.
