This was one of those adventures of a life time! Since the Hurricane,
the mountain has been stripped of all paths so the only way to get up
there (2750 ft) is to walk with an expianced guide (mr bodi, "the mountain man") and his machetti!
This was a difficult and slightly dangrous trek, which is not for the faint hearted!
It involved hiking up very steep hills, cutting though vegitation, crawling on hand and keens (very very muddy), rock climbing with out any safty harnce or anything in fact just branches and roots, walking
along very narrow ridges on the side of a cliff with a 600ft drop!
There were two of us doing it, with a guide and it was the best experiance ever! we had to encourge each other on to get through it, but when we did it and got back down, there such a large sense of achievement! And most of the locals were suprised we even had done it.
Our Guide (Mr Bodi) was 67 years old (june 2007) and had hiked the mountain 142 times in 17 years with a 100 of those times being solo trips! he knew his stuff and the people of the island called him the mountain man!
It was a great experiance!
